All this talk makes me want an athlon. I heard their getting alot cheaper.

Oh yeah the latest is 4.1 for some reason I thought it was 3.1.
-
Interesting. I wonder if that was fixed in 3.1. Hope so. Ill have to send support an email.

seldzar!! Yes man you are correct. I love winroute! It not only has a built in firewall it does nat( like ics )/port mapping( so you can run servers of your clien )/packet filtering. Also.... It works below the tcp/ip stack so it makes it harder for somebody to hack the firewall ( or something like that. Check the website ). I totally love this program. It taught me alot about networking. If you are new to networking the instructions are so helpful.

I agree with you to an extent. I have a k6-2 450 and I hate myself for buying it. Most k6-2 owners probobly know what Im talking about. I would totally be happy with like a p3 600 or athlon 6-700. even a p3 500.

Yeah I would upgrade if it fixes sticky keys. Sticky keys is no fun in rogue spear

I got the triple boot working perfectly all on the same 14 gig drive. First win98 then linux then win2k on the last. Its wierd because neither os when installed will overwrite lilo. So its like when I boot to windows using lilo I get the win2k bootmenu. SO I have to go through 2 boot menu's. Anyways I tried removing linux and when I rebooted all I get is LI and it just sits there. I assume that this is just left over lilo. I cant get rid of it though. I tried using the win2k repair feature several times using manual and automatic and It wont go away. I had to reinstall linux to boot again. Anybody know the solution?

If you have a voodoo3 card you will run into problems with the 3dfx tools because they will be installed to the same dir. Certain little things like that might happen just keep an eye out.

Help with removing lilo from triple boot win98/linux/win2k
A-guy replied to A-guy's topic in Software
fixmbr was needed to remove lilo. Then I ran fixboot just to be safe. Thank you both for your replies. -
LOL. I would just like to say in Klaus's defense I have a burnt copy of starcraft and it works perfectly. It must be something else. Btw.. I burned it because I left the cd in this broker cd-rom and it got thrown out. Luckily I still had the case with the cdkey.

Oh yeah and one more thing. Be sure to set all your nics on your lan to the correct adapter media type. Ie 100baset, 10baset ect. instead of autodetect. This has been known to cause intermittent access incompatibilities with certain setups. just avoid it if you can.
-
Dont even worry about it man. Win2k will run any nic you put in there like a champ. if you think that your network will improve at all by getting expensive 3com cards it wont. The difference wont be noticable unless there is a real problem. Just get a cheap good brand. Dont get a brand from some company in taiwan without a stupid website that went out a business a few years ago. Get like that one guy said aopen or kingston is good.

This debate is old. But Ill put in my 2 cents. Win2k is far more capable at running ANY 32 bit application then win9x. Problem is that the games werent designed to run with win2k. If they were they would smoke. Same thing with drivers..... I mean how well do expect a game that was written for win9x to work in win2k? Well some do but alot simply arent. I got win millenium on a dual boot and that thing absolutely smokes for games. But other than that its probobly the worst operating system Ive ever used. But I need it for my games. Bottom line is most people have win9x,, most gamers have win9x ( slowly declining ) and as long as this is so game developers are obviously going to optimize for win9x. This is common sense. And some games simply arent going to work. Ever. =)

ooops meant pm5

Pq5 mangled my drive when converting ntfs to fat32. Be careful.

I was having the same problem blue screen while detecting hardware. Loading the bios defaults worked for me. I beleive its the memory timings.

In win2k when you have a bsod it just reboots itself. This is what it sounds like. Are you overclocked? Also in tweaki or tweakui or something you can remove this feature so you will get the bsod. This might help you solve the mystery.

I use blackice also. www.networkice.com has an extensive knowledge base on configuring ftp servers, web servers, icq, games, ICS, behind blackice. Blackice will still protect those open ports as well from common attacks.

Not a good idea. Especially if its really buggy then you will most likely have to reformat.

Hey I got about 200 bucks to spend and want to buy a cd r/w. Im gunna get it from pricewatch cuz prices are so low but I want to make sure that the brand I get is good. Not some p.o.s that im stuck with that doesnt work so good. Any ideas?
-
YES! ;-). Win2k should be the bootmenu. Install it last.
-
Best way to install a new harddrive without losing info.
A-guy replied to rbarbier's topic in Hardware
You wanna mirror your drive to a new one? You cant just copy the files over you still need a bootsector on that drive. I personally would do a full reinstall but if you are looking for a way I think you can just copy the files over and once they are over you can boot off the win2k cd-rom and repair the boot sector. xcopy.... it might work. very risky. Anybody else got any recommendations? -
Thx alot guys! I will look for those.

Oh yeah at least 4 speed write.
