Need to resize NTFS partition in Win2k.

example: part1 : : : : :: : ; : ; :: : : ; when resizing that partition it will have to move all the data on the right to the left and is more succeptible to errors. example after defrag: part1 ::::::::::::::::::: Now you can resize it without it having to move much data. Crude example but you get the point.

Need to resize NTFS partition in Win2k.

Yup it will let you create bootup disks and thats what you need to do. Its safer that way because it runs in real mode dos without any other **** loaded and no compatibility probs. Btw. Try to defrag your entire drive before resizing it. The reason is it makes it easier for partition magic to move that data. Also bewarned with pq5 it isnt flawless. Backup your data if you can.

Windows 2000 FIX, IS THIS TRUE

Dos would have nothing to do with nt running on that system at all whatsoever. Its the same as if you did a clean install. Maybe a few lingering files that win2k will shake a stick at but thats it.

    Dual boot 98SE/2000 partition question

correcting my typo. So while you in windows 2000 youll beable to see all your "drives"

    Dual boot 98SE/2000 partition question

In short yes is your answer. You nailed it. Windows 2000 can "see" fat/fat32/ntfs whereas windows98 can only see fat/fat32. So while you in windows 2000 youll beable to see all your drivers but when your in win98 you wont beable to see any ntfs drives. And dont forget about ntfs for win98 which allows you to see ntfs partitions in win98. But I wouldnt install this unless you really really need to because I have had problems after installing it. win98 is buggy enough without trying to use ntfs drivers.

How to install Win98 under Win2K?

Does win98 allow you to select which partition you install it to? Or does it have to be the active partition?

How do I choose between ACPI mode and Standard PC

BTW.... If you only have one processor then choose... Advanced configuration and powerer interface(acpi). If you have 2 processors then there is something like acpi smp or something like that. Just check all the options before you pick one.

How do I choose between ACPI mode and Standard PC

When it starts up and it says something about ide raid configuration or something you hit either f5 or f6. I believe it is f5. So try that first. Dont worry if you mess up just exit the installation and reboot.
  13. Welcome to nt. I was having problems with this and finally I figured it out and makes perfect sense. You need to logon to your win98 machine with an account from your win2kbox. For instance every win2kbox should have an Administrator account. So you would logon to your win98 box using Administrator/passwordforadmin. Then you would have full access of the win2k box as an administrator! Cool hehe. And of course you could make other accounts and use them as well.

Any *working* firewalls for Win2k yet??

This may be a little off topic but doesnt a port require a program on it to be open? Meaning if I have disabled netbios for tcp-ip and file and printer sharing and I dont have any open ports there isnt really a reason to have a firewall is there?

Really big huge mega bad problem

Why dont you both crawl up a chickens ass and die. Thats the purpose of this board to ask for help. Just because someone cant type as elegant as you can or doesnt know as much about computers doesnt give you the right to call em stupid. Damn I swear some people never leave elementary school.

Really big huge mega bad problem

Is your win2k cd bootable? If so boot off the cd and try to repair an install or dunno you could just try and reinstall on top of it. If you dont have that option or it doesnt work then you could... If your file system is fat32 then try to get ahold of a win9x bootup disk or goto www.bootdisk.com and make yourself one. Bootup with the disk and try to access the drive. From there you can delete move copy and backup what you need. A little dos knowledge is required. If you dont know dos then you will need to learn it or get someone who does. If you converted your file system is ntfs then you will need to find either another comptuer with nt installed and put your harddrive on there and copy delete backup. ect ect. Or a win98 machine will do if you have ntfs for win98. Or partition magic 5 does convert ntfs to fat32 but use at your own risk. If you cant access the drive or you get an i/o error while trying to attempt this then you probobly have a bad drive. Hope this helps.

    Windows 98!

    better start using rogain.
  18. I used both standard and acpi. I didnt notice a performance increase or decrease.

    random shutdowns!

Sounds to me like you are getting a bsod. Thats how win2k treats bsod's. It just reboots. It might be a peice of hardware you have? Maybe the sound card? Try disabling the sound card for awhile.

    Bye-Bye supreme snowboarding

I wrote to info-games for the second time. The first was before official 3dfx drivers were present. I wrote them this morning and this is the response I got. --------------- The game is not WIN2K compatible. No where on the box does it state so. --------------------- The funny part is it totally will run in win2k all they need to do is patch this silly little application error. BOohoo I liked that game. Im not installing 9x crap to play it though.

    binding 2 connections....

Hi Im getting free dsl next month and I would like to bind it with my cable modem so they are like one modem in win2k. Kind of like a load sharing thing. Anybody got any ideas on how to do that? They dsl will probobly be a static ip # but the cable modem is dhcp.

    W2K installation problems....

Strange I believe I had this problem once before. I couldnt quite understand it. Is it after it copies all the files to the harddrive and reboots for the first time?

    binding 2 connections....

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I didnt mean bind in a technical sense like binding tcp-ip to my nic I meant it in a literal since like tie together as one. Ive been searching around reading up on the multilink protocal and it seems to only be for dial up or ppp connections. Its pretty cool because it actually doubles the bandwidth. I will be totally happy if I could do this with dsl and cable. Please more Ideas. Im back to the search engines.

    Win2k and Supreme Snowboarding full?

Yeah write to infogames. I did and they told me that the game wasnt designed to run under windows 2000 and they probobly wont make a patch. The thing that pisses me off is that its probobly a small little thing to make the game work. Something in the registry or something. Anyways the more people that write to infogames the sooner we get a patch.
