Yes, two cookies left behind your advertisers that Adaware does not like. It does not care about most other cookies but spots these two at every scan after leaving the site (everything cleared before coming here to be sure). Maybe Adaware is getting paranoid :x or me 8)

Yes, as it seems that AMD can catch on the speed, their next logical step is to propose 166 fsb versions of their chips, just like Intel did not a so long time ago with the PIIIeb at 133. I guess this new bios setting is already there for some testing by Asus and maybe some oems. The chip certainly can run reliablyat 166 fsb, there is no doubt about that. Just pump down the multiplier a little bit and its done. Competition is good
-
Hmm? Why not? This motherboard is currently running an xp 1700+ at 162 fsb (11xmultiplier, close to 1800 MHz). Core voltage is 1.9 V. The cpu cannot go higher stably (gets really hot and locks when landing on the desktop at 166). Not sure the mobo is the limiting factor. Anyway, the interesting fact is this semi-official support for 166 fsb. We will have to wait for an A7V400 or A7V500

Leave the frontpage for what it's supposed to be? News?
FrogMaster replied to DosFreak's topic in Feedback
Also a lot of case/fan/floppy/whatever childish mod news linked from teenage low-level sites... Who cares here? Most of them are really ridiculous, like putting leds into a floppy drive, unpurposedly changing fan grids (sometimes against the most obvious laws of physics) or painting a psu to fit the colour of the video card! My 2 cents but it seems to me that the focus is being lost. I'm sure frequentation of this site is decreasing x) -
Guys: I need a Quake III timedemo Demo for 1.31 build of Q3!

8) Update, same as above but with Quincunx antialiasing instead of 4x : 141 fps. Quality seems better to me - less blurred display -
Guys: I need a Quake III timedemo Demo for 1.31 build of Q3!
FrogMaster replied to Jerry Atrik's topic in Slack Space
Just my contribution; I ran the four demo on my current rig: Screen 1024x768, all 32 bits, everything maxed out with hq sound - 190 fps without antialiasing and anisotropic filtering - 103 fps with 4x antialiasing and and 8x anisotropic filtering (gorgeous display) Mobo is ASUS A7V333 with 1 Gig Ddram cl 2 Samsung Processor is Athlon XP 1700+ running on 160 MHz fsb (1760 MHz) Video is Leadtek GeForce4 4600 ultra at 320/725 MHz OS is Win2k/sp3 Lot of stuff running in the background that I never deactivate (hey, real world ) . Probably 10 more fps on a bare system??? I guess I will have another rig when DIII comes out -
Yeah Philipp, keep the high level of this forum! Or said another way, stay away from the bubble and hype. Keep it clean and reliable. Keep it pro ... with fun of course Hey Jdul?

The: What Computer Part did you buy this week thread
FrogMaster replied to DosFreak's topic in Slack Space
I had no intention to buy anything this week ... but this topic makes me think about throwing some hard earned $$ out of the Windows (no pun!) I have crappy onboard sound on this A7V333. I want anything which is not Creative. Guillemot/Hercules? ... or Turtle? I WANT very good 5.1 with VERY good drivers. Any idea? -
Fan Stacking: Ever heard of it? Your opinions please...
FrogMaster replied to Brian Frank's topic in Hardware
Alec, those motors are not traditionnal DC motors. There is some electronics inside the hub. When you reverse the polarity, nothing happens. It makes sense as blade profile is designed for best efficieny when rotating one particular way. Please look closely at Bursar's photo. One of the fan seems to be set upside down. I guess the intention is to have one fan blowing air at the heatsink while the other one sucks air out of it, like having the air flow sweeping the base plate. -

Just consulted a turbine spe[censored]t here. His recommendation would be to build the setup as follows: - put a 80 mm fan on top - put a cone-shaped duct with some cross-shaped guidevane inside the duct - put a smaller diameter fan below the duct that will blow into the heatsink - this smaller fan should have a higher cfm than the large one so that it can accelerate the flow. - in theory you should get higher speed and pressure and some rise in air temperature but overall efficiently would possibly improve. ... and yeah, fog in the air intake 8) -

FrogMaster replied to Brian Frank's topic in Hardware
Just a couple of hints & thinking ... - you cannot reverse the wires. There is electronic circuitry in there that will prevent you to do so. You have to physically install the fan upside down. - the setup could act as a compressor, rising the temp of the air significantly. The compressor stage of a turbine rises dramatically the pressure and the temperature. We have to fog in water or some refrigerent in our big power generation turbine to lower the temperature and rise efficiency (my company builds that kind of - huge, several hundred megawatts - machines). ... but higher pressure air will likely remove more heat from the heatsink - more molecules which can dance the Brownian rock & roll - I have read a lot of articles about that kind of experiment and I never found somebody noticing a significant improvement. I think good ducting will be more efficient. - If I were to do this, I would put the slower fan on top and the faster one as second stage, hoping it will be better fed with air. On the other hand the second fan would have to cope with heavy turbulences and its efficiency would drop. That's why we have guidevanes blades in-between each and other compressor stages on our machines. As a workaround,I would put some guide vane device in the air duct. -
I noticed something is constantly creating a file called prefs.pc8 deep down in the user profile folder the file reads: ------------------------------------------------------------------ # Mozilla User Preferences // This is a generated file! user_pref("browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone", "rv:0.9.4"); user_pref("browser.startup.page", 0); user_pref("prefs.converted-to-utf8", true); user_pref("timebomb.first_launch_time", "1014223337278000"); ------------------------------------------------------------------ It creates the file 1500 times then stops! (can see it in norton bin/purge) When I purge those files, something restarts the whole process until the number reaches 1500 again I run W2K-sp2 with all current fixes/patches IE6 is my only browser

Nestscape spyware he? Removed similar folder from all user profiles on this machine. Seems to have killed the baddy. What is weird is that it is a two-month old clean install. Netscape was never installed. Brought in by another intrusive app?

Opinions on Registry Cleaner I wrote nearly 4 years ago I im
FrogMaster replied to jdulmage's topic in Software
Sorry I cannot show those additional entries since I took the opportunity to blow the whole stuff 8) I run W2K by the way. I will let this machine create some new crappy entries for a couple of days and redo the test and let you know. Frog -
Good advice from DosFreak. What I would also do is write up a powerpoint presentation and a faq made from input from users that I would distribute back to users. I would show this to my boss who maybe would think "hey, this guy is a real pro who brings value add to the company, let's think about some incentive for him, well, maybe" I would have done this loooooong ago since now I am the boss

Hi Alex, here are some results: - APK, yours: 23 (took 20 minutes!) - MS Regclean: 0 (took around 10 seconds) - Norton Windoctor: 6 (took less than 5 minutes) - Tony's Easycleaner: 30 (took less than 10 seconds!). It found the same errors as your proggy plus 7 more. Regards Frog -
I am not sure whether it is related but I remember that on several occasions these drivers could not install properly. It seems that the installer used to unpack some of its stuff outside the temp folder then could not find them again next step. I took the habit to manually unpack in a folder created for this purpose and set it up from there. In other circumstances, some of the driver files would be installed at the root of program files folder instead of the Creative subfolder, creating errors. In the end, I just deleted Creative from my supplier list. Too much hassle with their hardware and drivers.

It will be a final between England and France. OK, I do not know why, but I really would love it happens. And why not Senegal in final? Of course against England or France. The point is: - alot of best French players are members of English teams - most best African players play with French clubs I am wondering: does this makes any sense?

Does exist a way or some utility that would allow viewing/editing the W2K hive files in the config subdir? They are in some compressed format, are they? What is the format of the database? I want to get rid of an 'INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE' error without having to reinstall dozens of apps. I get this error after having set up a raid 0 array. I want to enter manually the raid driver into the registry. Raid array is fat32 and can be accessed under dos (or from the Win98 partition). BTW, repair install with F6 pressed does not solve the problem. Hope there is a trick. If there is none ---> Access from DOS would be great for a lot of purposes in case of problems. Thanks in advance.

Access to registry files from DOS?
FrogMaster replied to FrogMaster's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Davros, Sorry if you felt offended. In fact I am moving a lot around, sometimes to random destinations (at really short advance notice) for my job and cannot always have a decent internet connexion to keep in touch and follow up. I have downloaded the file from your link and will play with it asap. Well , I am confused -

Access to registry files from DOS?
FrogMaster replied to FrogMaster's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Dirty Harry, Thx, very good and informative link ... but I understand (I may be wrong) you have to be in W2K to do stuff Sampson, Thx,I'll check this further as the way it would work is not clear Davros, regedit will not work in DOS I am posting from a W2K reinstall in a new folder on the same partition on the raid array as the one which does not work. I have copied all the user profiles and data over the new ones from the Win98 install and it seems to work (had to reinstall some windows updates). Yes, the question(s) is(are) the same: What is the format of the hive files in the config subdir? Is there an utility or a database app out there that would allow to open/edit these files? Very interesting as it opens a lot of perspective, including security issues. -

Sorry, Guys, here is the link to the knowledge base I forgot to give. http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q271965 Moving a boot disk to another system is similar to moving a boot disk to another (different technology) drive controller on the same machine.
