When I install Windows 2000 I had advanced power managment disabled and ACPI control register enabled and standby and hibernation work fine, The only problem I did have was with Adaptec easy cd creator v 4.0 this diabled acpi and other small things but now I use Nero Burn and have no problems at all I think hibernation is good if you use it Windows restarts in half the time. But also the way I have it set up Windows shuts down and also powers off the computer.

Have you recently uninstalled Nero 4.0 and installed Nero 5.0 .. !!! If you have this could be your problem. When you start Windows go to dial up networking and see if your dial up conection icons are presant ! you will see that they are missing but they are still there but as hidden items. If you refresh the page they will return and then when you connect to the internet your dial up icon in the system tray will return but you have to do this every time you start windows. I dont know how to fix this in the registry but there must be someone who can.

Seem to be working ok so far I have got Unreal tournament to actually run in Open GL but when you close the game down and restart it crashes back to the desktop. You have to change your video device back to D3D and do the same thing all over again. Guillemot Geforce 256 non DDR. [This message has been edited by badboy (edited 31 May 2000).]

Are you using Nero 5.0 !!! if you are and was using Nero 4.0 and uninstalled it then installed Nero 5.0 it disables the dialup conection icon on the taskbar I am having the same Problem. It's definatly Nero that causes the problem because its only done this since I uninstalled Nero 4.0 and installed Nero 5.0.

There out there go get them.

Try downloading the updated beta Windows media player bug free plus some new skins and some realy good visual effects. Also they have ironed out that real horrible transistor radio sound.

Supermicro are a good mobo get a duel Pentium and add another PIII 600 to go with the one you have and it will rock. If funds are tight you can always add another proccessor later as PIII's are now getting cheaper !!!

There are no Opti drivers for Windows 2000 have a look at the Opti ftp site and this will confirm this for you. Better to buy yourself a new sound card. http://www.opti.com http://www.drivershq.com/main_home.html

Whats that evil good !!! Or evil bad !!!

The answer is yes and no you do not have to disable the on board IDE. Most ATA66 PCI card are backwardly compatable with ATA33.

Just trying to help you guys out and I never realised that you only had two speakers as you say the problem is probably down to liveware more than anything else. It was unfortunate that I had the same problem but with a bit of messing about I managed to fix it. I still have four speakers enabled but no more crackling noises but no surround sound either. I know what you saying about having surround enabled perhaps we will get it when liveware 3 is avaliable any day now !!! P.S Do you know if the sound issue was fixed in 413 !

Well what do you want me to do !!!

I had the same problem. To play the game without this horrible crackling sound you have to disable multispeakers in the creative AudioHQ speakers and set it back to two speakers. Also in UT go to options tab / preferances disable direct 3D sound and surround sound then it was ok. The next time you play try enabling four speakers again from the creative AudioHQ speakers but dont touch any of the UT direct 3D sound or surround sound see how you go. This a problem which the makers of UT know about the game is geared more towards Aureal A3D sound cards.
