If you get the message NTLDR is missing while booting then your boot disk is corrupted you have to find someone running Windows 98 to make one for you. you can make it in the add and remove programs tab in the control panel of Windows 98.

You have to flash your bios from pure DOS first all you need one Win 98 boot disk make sure you have your mobo bios flash utilty and new bios on another restart your system dont forget you must enable your bios to boot from floppy disk. Insert your Win 98 boot disk when your sytem restarts it looks like you are going to install Windows 98 when you get to the first splash screen it will prompt you to start your computer with cdrom support select start computer without cdrom support all your doing is creating a pure dos enviroment type A: at the prompt dir, flash your bios dont touch any thing while its rewriting, after flashing it will prompt you to power off reboot take out floppy and your done. I hope this helps.

As a rule not all operating systems support ACPI only Windows 98 and Windows 2000 so when you load Bios defaults or bios setup defaults ACPI is disabled by default !!! so you have to enable ACPI manualy. Not all mobo manufactures have got there acts together yet as regarding ACPI in Windows 2000 I would like to think they are working on it !!!.

If your bios detects your hard drive as ultra DMA you will see it in the bios splash screen ( the bios never lie's) which you can pause while booting then hit return to carry on. Windows 2000 will probably install it as PIO mode in the device manager it will only be detected as PIO if windows is not sure, you can change it to ultra DMA from there if it locks on booting go to safe mode and change it back. Regarding your bios you can over write as many times as you like with the same bio's update. As regards to your hard drive being new or not it can still be fauty !!! You have to be carefull upgrading your bios one mistake could render it unbootable.

Try taking out all your pci cards an just leaving in Your Graphics Card, reboot then enter your bios then detect your hard drive, load setup defauts dont forget to change your boot sequence to boot from cd rom save and exit, You might have to fdisk you hard drive then create a new partion but dont format as windows will do that for you ( you can fdisk from a windows 95 / 98 boot disk) then se what Happens you might have an irq conflict with some of your hardware if windows then loads ok you might have to do some card shuffling after windows has loaded if it still do's it then you must get a bios update or you might have a faulty hard drive !!!!

nvidia 5.14 drivers, check the main page, they are on there.
badboy replied to Arin's topic in Hardware
Hi there I am now running the new Nvida beta 5.14 drivers on a Guillemot Maxi gamer Gforce 256 non DDR they seem slightly better than build 5.13,Q3 is opening at the moment without hard locking ! there dosn't seem to be quite as much tearing in Q3 as on the 5.13 drivers thumbs up for 5.14 leaked drivers -
It's on the bottom left hand corner above the internet button of the windows default cd player it's self, you can't miss it !
-
On the Windows 2000 default cd player is the options button hit that then the preferance button and then advanced audio you can make and change your default drive from there.

I have tried the AVG 6.0 free edition virus scanner and that just crashed my system at bootup and I had to go to safe mode to remove it, Now I am using InoculateIT personal edition and that is working perfect. Thanks for the tip st3ph3n
