Here is my situation. I have two harddrives right now on my computer. Both Fat32. C: has win98 SE installed and d: has Win2k installed. I am going to purchase a new harddrive on Friday. 40 Gig. I have a BE6 board so I am going to put the 40 gig drive on the HPT 366 controller to used UDMA-66. I want to know what is the BEST thing to do when I install this drive without having to reinstall all my stuff. My system is sooo stable right now it is scary. I think I am going to partition the new drive into 2 seperate drives and copy everything from the C: to the first partition and everything from D: to the second partition. Will this work right? What "swiches" should I use. I think I am going to boot to a Win98 prompt, run fdisk, and partition it there. Then use xcopy /s/e/c/h/k. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Believe me, I tried this many times with the disk that came with my board, and with a disk from the net with the drivers on it and I could not get it to work. I just moved the drives to the primary controller card and it worked great to install then moved them back to the hp.

I have the Abit-BE6 with 2 20 gig Maxtor 7200 UDMA 66 drives. I found the best thing to do is install Win 2000 with the drives hooked up to the main controller port. Don't even try to mess with installing Win 2000 if the drives are hooked up to the HPT slots. After you get Windows 2000 installed then move the drives to the HPT like you want making sure you keep the drive letters the same. You shouldn't loose any performance with the slower drive hooked up. I have the 2 20's hooked up the the HPT 366 and my DVD and CDR hooked up to the main controller (for compatability).

I depends on the quality of the ram. I ran a P3 300 at 2.5 x 133 with PC 100 ram with no problems. My ram is rated at 6n and 7n. I heard with PC66 ram you can run 100mhz if the ram is good also. So my answer to you is yes if the ram is of high quality.

http://192.216.185.10/mwave/doc/A02118.html This is a great monitor. Made by Viewsonic. I am using the V95 (Last years model) and it is great. I would highly recommend this monitor. $309 for a 19".

This must be the same friend that told him to install DOS first and then Windows 2000 to make Windows 2000 play games perfect.

What chipset are you using? Is is a VIA? You should look for a bios upgrade and make sure to check your bios making sure DMA is selected in the bios.
-
If you have any other computers just sitting around the house like that let me know. I will put it to good use.

Mine says stopped also! I never looked at this before. But when I run a benchmark program (SiSoft Sandra 2000) my harddrive is over 18000 which shows it being faster then a standard UDMA/66 drive. Mine are 7200 UDMA/66 running on HPT-366 (Abit BE-6).

Make sure the card is clean of dust. My friend had a problem with a different video card not working in Direct3d and after using compressed air on it, it started working great again. Yes, there are newer BETA drivers. They are good. Check the main page here for them.

Here is a link for these. I am going to try them out. Cool. Finally. http://www.s3.com/customer_caretechnical_supportdriversbetaCommunicationsSupraExpress_56_USB_PC.htm

The best thing to do is install Win2000 with both harddrives on the ATA33 controller card. Not the HPT366 making sure the drive letters are how you like. Once finished installing Win2000, switch BOTH drives to the HPT366 once again making sure the drive letters are the way you like. If not then switch the drive cables. Goto the bios and boot off the EXT and make sure EXT = UDMA66 not SCSI.

Yeah. It is on your Win2000 CD. Just put in the CD and copy it over. [This message has been edited by rbarbier (edited 26 May 2000).]

Try using just the PC-133 ram. Sounds like to me the PC-133 ram might be bad. http://home.earthlink.net/~rbarbier/
