Aha, I finally found it. The trick was to remove the "Everyone" user from the sharing permissions, and add only the users I want to share it with. Once I did that, it let me set it to Read-Only without any deny entries added on.

I just enabled the Guest account on the Win2k system, but that didn't seem to have any effect. Still getting permissions errors when trying to open files. I have entered the Win98 system's username to the Win2k users list, and both computers are on the same workgroup (obviously). I'm not quite quite sure what the 'domains' suggestion is about, I did a search on the Win98 system for domains, and went into the network properties to have it 'Log on to Windows NT domain', but this didn't work. Just got a message at bootup saying that there was no server found to verify the password. Am I missing something? Or is there another way?

Ah, that must be it. I'm using FAT32 (since I have a dual-boot setup, Win2k being the primary OS). Is it at all possible on FAT32?

Sharing a Win2k folder. Actually I'm trying to share the whole drive.

Where do I find this Advanced button under security? When I right-click the folder and select Sharing I don't see any advanced options...

I have a Win98 system connected via ethernet to my main Win2k system, and I'm trying to find a way to give the other computer read-only access to my system's files. I enabled sharing for all my drives, and set the permissions to read-only (denying write and full access). However, the other computer is unable to do more than list the files. Any attempt to open a file returns a permissions error. The only alternative I can find is to give full access, but I really don't want to do that. I don't understand why the read-only setting wouldn't work, is there something I'm missing?

Is it possible to set bandwidth limits on Internet Connection Sharing? My Win2k system is connected to the internet via DSL, with another Win98 system connected via network, using ICS. However, whenever someone is on the other computer, actively using the internet, my internet speed drops to a crawl. I'm curious if there is some way of putting a bandwidth limit on the other computer, so it remains even.

How do I get Explorer to remember to always show my files in list view? I turned off 'Remember every folder's view settings', and then selected List View, but now whenever I open explorer, it is back to the large icon view. How do I make it keep the view I select?

I've had this problem as well. I'm not sure exactly what makes Windows clue in that you're connected, but I seem to get it to work after a few rounds of messing with the Internet Connection Wizard and rebooting. If someone knows what's really going on here, I'd like to know as well.. -
Hello, I have a networking question. I connect to the internet using a Cisco 675 DSL modem, and I've noticed that it acts as a firewall, meaning I have to enter NAT information into the modem for it to do port mapping, to allow communication through certain ports. I need to do this for several programs I have, and set which port I opened for them, but my question is: how do I know what port numbers are available, which ones I can open for these programs? Any help or leads would be appreciated!

Is it possible to have Win2k and Win98 (on a dual boot) share the same swapfile? I thought I heard somewhere that this is possible, but I can't figure out how. It would be really useful if I could.

Dsl Creates phone line noise w/ microfilters installed!
Rudyatek replied to Arin's topic in Networking
Do you have more than one phone line in your house? I read in one of the manuals that the microfilters only work on Line 1, although I couldn't say why that is.. -
Ah, I see now, much clearer. Win2k will be the host in my case, so that's cleared up. Thanks guys!

i won to set up muti monitor under win 2k like be win 98
Rudyatek replied to kreangsak's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I've always wondered about this multi-monitor thing, what it's limitations are. Do both video cards have to be the same? Do both monitors have to run at the same resolution and color depth? -
Thanks Andersony. However I think I didn't make myself too clear, sorry. I have Win98, the first edition, not Win98SE. I don't find any options for Net Sharing in it. How might it be done in this case?
