Sblive and 4 speaker support in Win2k (playing DVD's)
polarcat replied to ben@indigo.net.au's topic in Hardware
hmm...i've been using powerdvd 2.55 and windvd 2.2.92, and the sound settings were grayed out as well (and in windvd set to 2 speakers), but i did get sound from all my 4 speakers anyway, even w/o using dvdgenie tweaks... -
i've been using v2.1 and v2.2.92 with the default configurations without any probs, however i had crashes as well when making ceratin tweaking using dvd genie... have you been using dvd genie to tweak windvd? if so try to restore original settings, or if you haven't been using it then try it, and see if some tweaking will help with your problem... ----------------- p3 450 msi bx master tnt2; v6.18 toschiba dvd-rom sd-m1212 sb live!; v3.0

as for my system, i've found that the best wrapper is GL2Ideal @ www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley/8346/gl2ideal/ i've been using it to play Zelda 64 using UltraHLE (N64 emulator), and the wrapper worked perfectly... there are many other wrappers available as well, just search the net, and visit www.ultrahle.com they have a bunch wrappers available at their site as well ----------------------- p3 450 msi bxmaster 128 100mhz ecc tnt2 (diamond v770; nvidia ref. v6.18) sb live w2k pro [This message has been edited by polarcat (edited 12 September 2000).] [This message has been edited by polarcat (edited 12 September 2000).]

it's already a big thing, and becomes even more so with each day... and linux does not have stability or reliability problems, it is stable as a rock, and the majority of the worlds web servers are run on *nix recently there was an influx of great commercial applications to linux platform, for example from corel, softimage ports its softaware to linux...etc, currenttly what linux lacks, is being a gaming platform

some time there was a comparison between detonators v5.32 and v6.01 on reactorcritical http://www.reactorcritical.com/cgi-bin/n...pl=archive.http probably the could be more enhancements now, since currently it is detonator v6.18...

if you have a 4 or up speaker system, and have no lw2 installed, then it's sure worth to do, but as for me (non-gamer) i haven't had any problems with win2k default drivers (befor getting 4 speakers) or afterwards with lw2 and currently lw3... ----------------------------- p3 450 msi bxmaster 128 mb ecc diamond v770 sblive

how important to install sp1 is of course for you to decide, have you gone through the list of fixes it does @ http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q259/5/24.asp ... but generally it is advisable to install it, and the screw's up that this might introduce are generally not because of the microsoft's sp1, but of the flows* in the 3rd party soft/drivers, and if it is a popular product the fix will follow shortly if you install sp1 on a fresh installation of win2k, or slipstream it, there's a lesser chance of problems to appear however, i've updated my dirty ("unclean" that is )win2k pro to sp1 rc v1.59 some time ago, and had no problems since then whatsoever...

... sheesh, some people... this is not the forum for such kind of *stuff*... ---------------------------------- try this: (taken from http://www.winsupersite.com/FAQ/) Wanna be a beta tester? If you're interested in applying to beta-test Microsoft products, send Microsoft a blank email and they'll auto-reply with the information they need. betareq@microsoft.com good luck -

i'm using Mail Warrior too. it's small, memory efficient, clean and with a cool looking interface. it can preview or delete incoming email's on a server w/o downloading them. a really nice app. i highly recommend it! -
never had any problems installing it on w2k, only on my w98se, with certain nvidia drivers ... ------------------------------------- p3 450 msi bxmaster 128 mb ecc diamond v770 sb live!

yep! there's one freeware app called MPEG Audio Scissors (though i've never used it myself) @ http://www.tfm.profm.ro/mp3edit/mp3edit.html or if you want to get fancy, there's a great peace of software called Sonic Foundry Vegas Pro @ http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Products/newshowproduct.asp?PID=169, which you can by for as little as J539.10 ))

Since I got Asus 5PA mobo I was having frequent freezes on my K6-2 550 w/ Diamond v770 (TNT2), when I was surfing the net I tried to not to "breathe to hard" and don't make "sharp scrooling" in browser window, as it was a sure fast way to freeze my system... Now several days ago I discovered the ZOIAH HQ site @ www.xs4all.nl/~bmsmit and after downloading and flashing the newest available NVIDIA refernce bios (well actually an engineering release), I'm finally through with my freezing problem! Hurray! So if you're having a problem, of which your video card could be a contributor to, it might be a good idea to try and to flash a new bios. BE WARNED: Read all the instructions/precautions before attempting to flash a new bios. While browsing some other forum, I guess it was a Darkstone forum, I came to an interesting post were it is asserted that changing the playback device (control panel >> multimedia) from SB Live! Wave Out to Game Compatible Device actually helped to run Darkstone as well as some other games with fewer problems... I don't know whether it is so or will work for everyone, but I think that this might be potentially interesting for SB Live! owners.

yes, you can get them here: http://www.ali.com.tw/eng/support/driver.shtml

what drivers are you using? I had such a problem on my P5A + TNT2, with early version of NVIDIA drivers, but not with the latest ones. Try to update drivers and/or install ALI AGP driver...

When I try to dial using my modem, it just produces a continous dial tone, and I cannot get any further than that, though under win98 I have no problems with this modem. Any suggestion? Thanks!

I've received your inf file, DarkWolf, but it unfortunately didn't solve the issue either... I visited 3com's uk site ant they say that they will have w2k drivers posted soon. I guess I will have to wait until then... Thanks for all the help DarkWolf!

I've copied both MDMUSRG.INF and MDMUSRG.PNF files from my win98 to w2k, deleted my modem, restarted and reinstalled but the effect is still the same... ( DarkWolf, you've mentioned that on your win98 drivers, *9190 is not excluded, but I've checked and my win98se does exclude it as well as w2k does. Can you please send me both your win98 MDMUSRG.INF and MDMUSRG.PNF files, maybe it will help... Thanks!
