Are your HD's running in PIO mode? If so, try enabling DMA as it is disabled by default in W2k.

GH_Hope, Are you saying you haven't got a firewall installed on your pc? If this is the case, how would you know you have even been scanned? After installing a firewall you will be very surprised at how frequent port scannings are. And remember it only takes a dodgy email or a hacked download to install a trojan on your pc. If I was you, I would install zonealarm, and let it do its business in the background. Better be safe than sorry.

I agree with Spuddeh re: the internal WinModems. Get yourself an external modem (I have a us robotics). Two things aer of benefit with this setup. a) It doesn't use your cpu like an internal winmodem If you have an electrical storm, and your modem line is plugged into a anti-surger socket, you will get no damage to your pc, unlike the internal modem, which will just fry it. But for the setup yuo have got, then, as long as you're in the 40's you have nothing to worry about. Connection speeds depend on your area and ISP. If you dl something I am sure you will see your speeds fluctuate. So don't worry about it. But do get yourself an external modem if you can.

Pagefilesize for winXP2600 512Mb ram?
yakkob replied to DremNeonBlack's topic in Customization & Tweaking
When you go to edit it, it gives you the preferable size that m$ dictates. It will prolly be approx 750mb. I have 1GB RAM and have set mine to 500mb, and stuck it on the sdame partition. This is not right, and I am sure others wil advise differently. -
I too is having probs with the task bar taking for ever to load up on my BP6 machine. I had to reimage my cuv4x-d machine coz it was bsoding all over tha place. You don't think it does this because it finds another pc on the network with the same serial key do you?

Hey Peeps, Just read this over at the hercules forums > Quote: I just installed the latest Nvidia Detonator v21.81 video drivers on my Win XP system and after rebooting, it also fixed the known problem with my Hercules Game Theater XP sound card. I have 768MB of RAM and am running stock boot.ini with no mods. I have a Geforce3 video card so was anxious to install the latest Nvidia drivers because of performance boost claims. For full thread click here Can't wait to try this tonight. WOOHOO I'll let you know what goes on. Tonight is the time for the format and total clean install GL All

Site is down for me too. Maybe you could just reiterate what it 'was' saying?

Have you enough cooling in your case? Is it a desktop case and not a tower? My V3 3000 used to overheat and reset my old AMD machine. I bought a tower and put extra cooling in (I wasn't oc'ing btw) and the prob went away. If you have a card right next to your V3 3000 move it slot down to aid with this. GL Yak --

To all you beta testers - Expect your Gold code soon (If not
yakkob replied to BladeRunner's topic in Software
Because I paid £17.63 and received RC1 from m$, does that mean I am a beta tester? And, no, I (if I am) aint received my eval copy -
Safeburn is Yamaha's take on the burnproof technology. Does the same thing, and yes, the 8mb buffer will come in handy. I have the Yamaha 8424sz int.scsi, and have yet to burn a coaster, and that doesn't even use safeburn. Yamaha make damn good cdrw's. One thing I will mention, is that I have seen posts regarding the new yamaha range , and it might not be possible to burn at the top speed without using TDK cd's. Shouldn't be a problem though, that new burner will fair zip along.

Quote: to solve the stop error i installed a promise ide ata66 pci controller card. i attached a hard drive to it and removed all hd`s connected to the high point controller on the mother board i installed winxp after it was up and running i went into device mgr and the mass storage controller was yellow flagged i uninstalled it then used the hardware wizard to detect new hardware when prompted for drivers i put in a floppy with the highpoint 366 drivers on it i ignored the compatibility warning and it loaded the drivers after rebooting the system recognized the controller i reattached hard drives to the high point controller and they were recognized And........................................ I second that comment

Hellbringer, When you install stuff, do you clock your cpu back? I see you are running an 800 @ 1000.. You will definatley see instabilities due to a cpu thats already maxed out when overclocking. Try knocking your cpu down and then installing stuff, you might see a difference.

Myslef and my m8 get this outlook problem. It used to be very irritating, as you would try to install something, and nothing would happen, you would click again etc, and still nothing. You then open up task manager, and see 6 setup.exe's sitting there along with outlook.exe. KIll off the outlook.exe and they all start loading up at once! MY solution; and what I practise is to always check task manager after checking email. Its a bind I know, but it works

I have had that error, but it seems to be gone with rc2. The grey loading bar has still disappeared (not that I miss it). I too have had a couple of ntoskrnl.exe bsod's but only with 1 game. Don't know the solution, but I wouldn't *upgrade* Win98 with XP. I would do a clean install on a separate partition to your other OS's.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I was gonna put something along them lines myself but had to delete it a 1/3 of the way through..I was at work at the time, and was pulled off to work on an application problem.
