I aint advocating piracy. I was simply getting at the fact that this board is here to help peeps with hardware and software problems.
-
I agree with THC, Dos, and Brian on this one. I signed up for the RC1 and rtm with M$, and I still managed to get RC2 downloaded from an alternative source before I even received my kosher copy. Also, I wouldn't be getting RC2 over here in the UK anyways. LIke THC says, I too will be purchasing WXP, but I will also crack it, as I also like messing about with my system. It's half the fun of owning a PC, tweaking, trying beta software, upgrading hardware a bit at a time. I aint gonna let an OS spoil my fun. I will have bought it, so who gives a ****, is why should I keep telling M$ that YES I have bought your software. Yeah, and anyone who needs help on this forum will get help. Apart from peeps asking for links etc. There are other boards for that kind of info. L8rs

I installed T2, Patched it, installed my PJ Scripts. I then doubleclicked my 'Delete DSO's' icon, and the pc Reset! Back into XP, T2 icons had disappeared. Installed det 12.90's, Nvreffix, went into T2Online only to find NO text whatsoever, I couldn't even see what I was typing into user and PW field. Went in to the SOLO and LAN game, and played first mission, again, no text, couldn't pick flag up, couldn't select armour or vehicles. Next, I tried to do a repair install, but it kept pointing to my W2k install of T2. If I tried to uninstall it, it also pointed to my W2k install of T2 (use the custom option in the uninstall). So, I deleted my XP install, and copied over my W2k install; Alas no difference. Installed the 7.58's, no difference. Last ditch attempt (even thought this used to be the first thing I did in W2k - Don't ask) I used the tribes.exe in my W2k install, and it bladdy worked. AND, I have to say, it is smoother than W2k. So now I am pretty chuffed. WinXP Rc2 Oh Yeah, as you can see I am using the Hercules GTXP sound card, and I have had to limit my memory to 256 to get it stabe'ish in WXP. I still get screeching sounds on startup and shutdpwn, but ingame it sounds excellent. Hopefully this will be rectified by the RTM ver or Hercules drivers. Bit gutted that I have to lose 750 MB tho

Found this > ----------------------------------------------------------- http://www.microsoft.com/uk/preview/pre-release.htm Please note: When ordering your beta product version (costs cover postage & packaging for first copy only). You will automatically be sent 1 update to the beta product version (if applicable) and the final 120-day evaluation version when released. There is no need to re-order for any of these updates. ----------------------------------------------------------- Surely the final version will be Rc2? -

I received mine this morning, and after reading the documentation (very quickly skimmed it through breakfast) I think this is the only version we get. Now, I am pretty sure when I entered my credit card details, M$ said they would also send RC2, when that became available. Did anybody else think this, or am I going quite mad? -
I went home at dinnertime, and half expected to find an M$ cd on the floor. Glad I was only half expecting it ;( I s'pose there is always tomorrow !

I also received a cd this morning. It was RC2, my m8 dl'ed it for me. I find it bladdy irritating that I went to the trouble of signing up, giving my credit card details, etc, only to find that peeps are just dl'ing it everywhere. I am still waiting for my M$ cd's At least I get to play with it, before it gets here -
I am sorry if someone has covered this, but I hit on it by accident last night. As you know, outlook2002 does not support importation of email configs, which is a bit lame IMO. A solution: By importing your email configs into outlook express, when you start up Outlook 2002, it will recognise that these email details exist, and ask you if you would like to import them. Thought I would share that with you.

This explains why I had to reimage my machine last night. I started installing XP RC1 from an alternative source , but it failed (cd was fooked) but it warned me against the symevent.sys file norton used. I ignored that coz I wasn't upgrading but doing a clean install. I hadn't even got to the part where you select the partition etc. RC1 said it would then clean itself up. After tat had done, I noticed that the grey bar you get on the forst W2k bootup screen was not animated but it just flashed up without any text etc. This happened for a couple of days, until last night I was presented with a bsod at loadup citing the sysmenet.sys file. Seems rc1 aint that good at cleaning up after itself. Thank fook for ghosty tho...9 mins and I was back up and running from a 2.6gb image

I can vouch for the CUSL-2, and the CUV4X-D. The former my m8 has, and has no problems, the only limitation being the 512MB Ram. I have the CUV4X-D which is a dual board, and have no problems at all. I just reimaged last night, and the system is very stable. Specs below > Asus CUV4X-D (Bios 1010) Dual PIII 1 ghz @133 1Gb PC133 SDRam 2 x 75GXP 30.7GB IBM Deskstar ATA100 GTXP 2.02 Gef 2 GTS Pro 32MB DDR (nvidia ref) 12.41 dets Yamaha 8424sz int SCSI CDRW Adaptec int ScSI card Acer 52x CDRom Pioneer 16x DVD A05s iiyama VM Pro 450 19" MS Intellimouse Explorer USB MS Sidewinder FF Pro2 USB MS Sidewinder Gamepad Pro 2 USB MS Internet Pro KB USR 56k V.90 Voice/Fax Ext Modem RatzPad 400W PSU Direct X 8a, VIA 4in1 4.29’s, VIA Usb Patch from sidewinder site. I have this card, and I can't fault it. No crackles, fizzles, pops, all eax 1 & 2, a3d, sensaura sounds are kickass. Fuggin gr8 being able to play games with my sound on, unlike my old SBLive card. My specs (so you know if its compatible with your system) > Asus CUV4X-D (Bios 1010) Dual PIII 1 ghz @133 1Gb PC133 SDRam 2 x 75GXP 30.7GB IBM Deskstar ATA100 Hercules GTXP (2.02 Drivers) Gef 2 GTS Pro 32MB DDR (nvidia ref) 12.90 dets Yamaha 8424sz int SCSI CDRW Adaptec int ScSI card Acer 52x CDRom Pioneer 16x DVD A05s iiyama VM Pro 450 19" MS Intellimouse Explorer USB MS Sidewinder FF Pro2 USB MS Sidewinder Gamepad Pro 2 USB MS Internet Pro KB USR 56k V.90 Voice/Fax Ext Modem RatzPad 400W PSU Direct X 8.1 beta Dual booting Win98se & W2k Sp1, Sp2 (all critical updates) I.E 5.5 sp1 and updates.

Yes...I use NvMax in W2k. When you use the uninstall feature, it reboots your machine. Once rebooted W2k will try to find another driver or card. Do not press OK or Cancel, let all your startup processes loadup, if the prompt is still asking for OK or cancel, press cancel. W2k will then select Standard VGa adaptor for you. Try that.

I use NvMax, it is on http://tweakfiles.com. It has an uninstall of detonators feature and it has never failed me. GL

Are you using the old scan engine of the mcaffee AV? If so, upgrade it or disable it totally while burning. I am currently using Nero 5.5.0.4 with the latest version of InCD and have no problems. Well, I say no problems, but if I rip my old live mix tapes to mp3, and then convert to cd, I get an error, and have to reboot to get the cdr out. It plays ok afterwards, except that at the end of the mix, it stops but then keeps looping the last 2 seconds or so (very perplexing). I have burned mp3's I have dl'ed to cd with no problems at all. I guess it must be summat to do with soundforge, and the the bitrate I encoded with. I wonder if Variable Bit rate has anything to do with it? Does anyone know what the highest bitrate Nero will burn to cdr? Or does it not matter.

NT4 is definatley a ballache when it comes to booting up. Hell, its quite easy to become an alcoholic waiting for NT4 to boot up -
Hehe, I know how you feel don, you always wonder if that antivirus is working or not, and when something like this happens it restores your faith.
-
Yo don, I received 3 copies of it to my hotmail accounts, the documents had the added .lnk (shorcut extension to them). When I downloaded one as is, NAV did not pick it up. BUT, when I downloaded it again, removing the .lnk so it was just a .doc, NAV picked it straight up. I haven't received it to outlook, but I will send it myself and see what happens. But I suspect that NAV will not pick it up with the .lnk extension as it the virus would not be able to execute, as the shortcut would be to a non-existent file. I might be wrong here of course, but the virus will only run if you open it as it is supposed to be oened as a .doc Like I said, I might be wrong, so please others put me straight if I am.

Nice work there Wolf87. Glad you got it sorted JDawn.
