Been a while since I last posted, but I used to find this forum extremely helpful. Anyway, I thought I'd give something back in the way of my experience with deploying Firefox in a corporate environment. N.B. I am not in anyway affiliated with FRONTMOTION. I'm currently using the Frontmotion Community Edition 10.0.0.2 version of Firefox. I have deployed via GPO, and have all the proxy settings set, etc. I also have it set so none of the users can install add-ons/extensions (which was always a worry). It doesn't cost anything (although there is a paid version that will add add-ons for you etc). If you've been wondering about how to do the above I suggest you give it a whirl. http://www.frontmotion.com/FMFirefoxCE/index.htm Cheers Yak

Hi everyone, Long time since I posted on here! I currently use: "Look'n'Stop" - Firewall (Ugly looking but excellent software that is not resource hungry and does what it says it does - highly configurable) Sophos Anti-Virus - AV that is only for corporates. I have noticed it getting a bit more bloaty lately, and is quite aggressive and does hit on a few FPs (False-Positives), but ultimately we/I aint been hit by a virus. Windows Defender - AntiSpyware. Not really sure that it does much to be honest, Sophos takes care of most "Spyware". Sandboxie - Great little app for testing/surfing (Sandbox) On another machine, I run MBAM (Anti-Malware) as it detected and removed dodgy software off my mates pc. Router firewall with UPNP disabled and ports mapped manually. Thats about it.

I'm assuming that new XP pc came as is and will therefore be formatted with NTFS. Your W2k box must be formatted with FAT32 as the 95 and 98 can see files on there. The problem (I think) lies in NTFS. You either need to redo the XP box and use Fat32, or convert W2k box to NTFS, and upgrade the 98 box to an NT-based OS (w2k, XP) Wait for some other replies firstfrom the likes of DosFreak, Clutch, et al... just to confirm what I have stated.

I answered your 'other' same thread in the Applications (XP) with this, so I'll post it here too> To help you out with the deletion of log files just add this batch script to run every 1/2 hour as a scheduled task: erase "c:\Program Files\Exhchange\MDBDATA\E0000*.log" So you can at least concentrate on the other problem. HTH

I like both, but prefer PC, but I aint gonna ram it down your throat.

Ill tell you what, when half life 2 comes on xbox (with online play) then ill start comparing. *sigh* looks like 90 % are PC freaks and wouldnt spend a penny on a console. Just let me tell you some thing.. When i wanna play a game, I like to sit on my leather sofa, with cold drinks next to me,with a 54 LCD Flat screen TV, and a nice ass xbox controller with ( VIBRATION ), PC?? when I sit on PC for a long time you start feeling like ur starting to grow a hunch back! I dont give a Monkeys ass if key board and mouse are classic, it DOESNT simulate the real feeling of shooting a gun. If you think Xbox doesnt have nice graphics, then wait for Xbox 2! Must be nice to be able to spend your money on what ever you want. Nice setup. But playing the same game on a pc or xbox, the pc is gonna win everytime for me. I do have a MAME pc setup in my living room, with PS2 controllers, and sidewinder joysticks I also have an N64 (Goleneye & Zelda rocked), but don't use it anymore (unless I'm ill sometimes, and I want to be transported back to the land of Zelda). I do play round my bros on his xbox, and I enjoy it, it's great for when all the lads get together witha few guinnesses etc. I just can't justify spending all that money on a console, when I spend what I do no my PC.

Nice 'referrer' link you posted there Wicked101...tsk tsk IMHO I don't thnk referrer links should be allowed. Then again, I think with the age-group of this forum, most of us are too wise to click on it anyways.

Ok, Recently bought a new pc, (Specs in the general discussion thread - but doesn't matter). PC has BlueTooth, Wireless, 1394, 10/100 VIA VT6105 Network Card. LAN works fine, but as soon as I start opening webpages (I connect through a dsl504 router), the connection dies, for about 5 mins, then kicks in again. Soooooo, I'm thinking, update drivers for the VT6105 - Didn't work I then install a PCI 10/100 - Same problem (weird) I then disable the bluetooth, and the wireless, and vt6105 and leave the pci running the lan. Connection seems to last longer. Now, I don't know about you lot, but when i surf I will open various forums, and open them all in many tabs in Firefox (thats how i surf) (on a side note, connection still the same with IE). I then get to thinking about XP SP2 and how it limits connections, and I reckon I am well over the 10 connection limit imposed by Microsoft. So I download the latest XP-AntiSpy 3.91, which allows you to specify unlimited etc. And, whadda ya know....RESULT!! I just want to know if this has caught anybody else out, and if after reading the above you agree, or am I totally off tangent. I await your thoughts.

Just a quick update on this problem. I forgot to mention I also flashed the mobo (not that that's the cure) Anyways, the problem might have been to do with my ISP (which makes a lot of sense), but I was on another pc surfing. But I didn't give it enough testing. Needless to say, I still have the other network cards disabled (don't use 'em) and everything is hunky dory. The more I look at this problem, the more I think it could be my isp end. Anyways... Comments, if you feel like it..

Have you tried it on another pc? Reason I ask, is because it sounds like a hardware not software problem. Try it on another pc first, just to make sure. Obviously MS have stopped making these, so you'll have to go to ebay or somewhere to try and pick another one up. Good Luck

WHen you get the message to shut down your pc, do the following: Open a RUN prompt (Windows key & R ---- Or Start > Run) Type in (without the quotes) 'shutdown -a' This will stop the shutdown happening, and you will be able to continue downloading SP4. Good Luck
