You need to run apcompat on the setup.exe file inside the setup95 dir on the cd. After that you need to upgrade to version 1.08. I got this far and now I just get a black screen upon startup.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that UT doesn't like swapfiles over the size of 256mb, especially when 256mb of ram or more is in the system. I'm not sure but it's definitely worth a try. Decrease your pagefile size to 128 or something like that.

You might try using a different, preferably brand new SCSI cable. When I first got my 303S I was using the old cable that came with my SCSI controller and I was getting tons of problems reading burned cds, weird artifacts when watching DVDs, etc. I used the cable that was sent with the DVD drive and now it works great. You might try that and if not return it for a new drive. My drive has read every single messed up, burned cd I've thrown at it, and usually at full speed. Ripping is a consistent 12x too. If you can get it working properly this drive really kicks butt!

Which video card do you have?

I had NFS5 working on a system almost identical to yours under win2k so we know that it will work. One thing you might try that fixed my friend's problems is up[censored] your monitor drivers. He would get black screens whenever he would start up games and it turned out that Windows hadn't detected his Viewsonic PF790 correctly and was trying to use a refresh rate it didn't support.

Uhhh...I don't think anyone here uses AOL. If you're smart enough to be using Win2k, you're probably smart enough to realize that AOL is gay.

Like I said, use the NVidia drivers and your lockups will probably go away. Stay away from Creative drivers.

Well first off you should set your pagefile to at least the actual size of your ram + 9mb (265mb in your case) and not only 128mb as that is what Microsoft strongly recommends doing, especially where memory dumps are concerned. Also try using the latest NVidia drivers. In my experience Creative has never written very good drivers, especially for win2k so you'll be much better off using NVidia's drivers. Uhhh...it might help if you told us a little more about your 3d card other that "it's a 3d card".

You can make win2k not reboot after a blue screen crash. Go into system properties and under Advanced/Start & Recovery uncheck "Automatically Reboot". That should allow you to see which driver is the cause of your crashes.

My friend has played the Deus Ex all the way thru to the end with zero crashes using his CUV4X motherboard (Apollo 133A), P3-733, and 32MB GTS. He's using the 6.18s and the latest Via 4in1.

Right click on "My Computer", then under Advanced/Performance Options you can find your control for your swap file (aka virtual memory).

Yep. I got it working just fine on my system. It even used my SLI!

What's your pc's specs? It's most likely a problem with your video card drivers. Win2k usually lists the file at fault when it does a mem dump? Which file did it list? I can't really help much unless you give me more info.

Does it list your Geforce as a capable device when you run the 3d setup? To access this just hit "change device" in display options. If not you'll probably need to get the lastest drivers (6.18) from NVidia's site, then install DX7.0a and it should detect your card.

You're best bet is to force it to run in Glide mode instead of the default D3D mode. It will run much better and will be less buggy. To do this enter the registry and go to the key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Need For Speed - Porsche Unleashed" and change "D3D Device" to "0", "Group" to "Glide", "Hardware acceleration" to "1", and finally "thrash driver" to "voodoo2". I did this for my SLI and it works perfectly in Glide mode so it should work the same way for your Voodoo3. Good luck!

Setcmd95 is found on the NT 4.0 disk. Win2k comes with an updated file called apcompat.exe found in the \support directory of your Win2k disk.

JBoDEAN: Tearing refers to all the weird little lines and flashing that occurs when V-Sync is disabled and the Video card renders frames faster than the refresh rate. Turn it off and you'll see what I mean. nagual: Yes I know my system is old but I'm a poor college student with a car and I can't afford to upgrade my comp. Besides, SLI still works great for CS. Framerate never drops below 30= Jester is happy!

Why do you really care that you can't get anything above 60fps? I wish my system could do that! Be happy with your constant 60fps and don't disable V-Sync dammit! You'll get horrible tearing problems.

I changed the 3dsetup.ini like many have said and it still doesn't detect my Voodoo2s. Since I'm running win2k they have no DirectX support and I'm stuck running it with my slow ass TNT. Anyone have any ideas for getting it working? I've tried all sorts of drivers and none of them get it to detect them.

Well I got it working. Went into registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\Need for Speed - Porsche Unleashed, changed "Group" from D3D to Glide, and changed "Trash Driver" from DX to Voodoo2. Now it works great! 1024x768 with all details maxed it runs like butta!

How about some more system info? What kind of motherboard do you have? Does the GeForce have problems in other games?
