Subject: Be Careful Don't go to the bathroom on October 28th. CIA intelligence reports that a major plot is planned for that day. Anyone who takes a poop on the 28th will be bitten on the *** by an alligator. Reports indicate that organized groups of alligators are planning to rise up into unsuspecting American's toilet bowls and bite them when they are doing their dirty business. I usually don't send emails like this, but I got this information from a reliable source. It came from a friend of a friend whose cousin is [censored] this girl whose brother knows this guy whose wife knows this lady whose husband buys hotdogs from this guy who knows a shoeshine guy who shines the shoes of a mailroom worker who has a friend whose drug dealer sells drugs to another mailroom worker who works in the CIA building. He apparently overheard two guys talking in the bathroom about alligators and came to the conclusion that we are going to be attacked. So it must be true.

Create a group, put all the users in the group. Then assign permissions to the group. -

Did you happen to do any of those tweaks, that tell you to turn off certain services? I did those tweaks and noticed a problem with Outlook Express. I can't remember which service, but I think it was the "Run As" service.

Problem with my Sidewinder software
kgeissler replied to Playboy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
You can use the Sidewinder software that came with the wheel. When you go to install it, it will say it hasn't been test with Win2k, but choose to install it anyway. Also, make sure you have loaded DirectX 8. BTW, is this a USB or a serial port wheel? -
I don't know what the registry keys are off hand.

Cable Modem. If not that, I have always like US Robotics (now 3com).

Copy the I386 subdirectory to the hard drive and point the registry there.

Are the workstation recieving a valid IP from your DHCP server? Maybe your router is blocking certain IP's?
-
Can you ping the DNS servers from these workstations? Are you sure your subnet mask is correct?

What program are you trying to install? As far as installing apps from the net. Usually when you download a program, you just have to remember what folder you saved it to. When it is done, just go to that folder and double-click the program. The installation instructions should come up.

Usually if you put the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive, a window should pop up asking if you want to install the program. Have you tried that yet?

Your computer will see the phone line network as another network adapter in your system. If you are interested, I have 2 Diamond Homefree USB Phoneline adapters. They are only the 1Mb version, but they work ok. Let me know if you want them? I would be willing to sell them. I stopped using them when I installed CAT5 cable in my house.

How much faster is a DDR motherboard compared to one that uses SDRAM?
-
The reason I had asked is because I am upgrading. I just bought 512MB of SDRAM about 3 weeks ago. I am now going to be upgrading my CPU/Motherboard. I am just wondering if I should eat the cost of the memory I just bought and get a DDR motherboard. Or get a SDRAM motherboard and save some money. I want to get the Athlon XP now that it is out. But that is more money than the 1.4ghz Thunderbird I was going to get. Just not sure how to spend my money. Just in case you are wondering, this is what I have now: Abit KA7 Athlon 800 Slot A 640MB SDRAM Geforce2 GTS 32MB

I know that the USB Phone Line networks are now up to 10Mb. I had one before I installed CAT 5, and it ran fine.

If you have the resource kit, you could probably schedule SHUTDOWN.EXE to run on your machine.

I am going to be upgrading this month. What processor should I go with? I can get a 1.4Ghz Athlon for about $100. How much faster is the XP? Is it worth the price increase? Will Socket A motherboards support the XP?

How can I find out if I am getting hit by DoS attacks? I have all the patches for our IIS5/Win2k server. But about every couple of weeks, we will have the number of users rise sharply to over 1500, then our server dies. Is there any way to check this, or look into it? I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

I am going to be upgrading my machine at the end of this month and not sure what I should get. Right now I have an Abit KA7 Slot A MB, with an 800mhz Athlon. About a month ago, I purchased an additional 512MB for it. Now I want a new MB and CPU and not sure if I should get a DDR motherboard and buy all new RAM, or just go with an SDRAM MB and use the RAM I have. I am also wondering about RAID. Right now I have a 5400RPM 13GB drive. It still has plenty of space left on it and it works great. Should I sell it and get 2 7200RPM drives for RAID, or just stick with my 5400RPM drive? I really want to stick with and AMD CPU. I would like to spend no more than $300 on both the MB and the CPU. Any ideas or recommendations? TIA

That Asus looks like a good board. I wonder if it supports the 1.4Ghz Athlon? I wonder if it will support the Athlon XP.

My video card is a Geforce2 GTS 32mb.
