nvidia 5.14 drivers, check the main page, they are on there.

How about performance under q2? With the 5.13 i had nice performance with Q3 but the fps came to half with q2| :-P I had 59fps at 640 in q2 with the 5.13 and i had 151fps q2 with 5.08. :-P Anyone care to show some q2 benchmarks, please? -
I would get a new HD. :-( The WD hd is probably the one to blame, i have one myself and it was hell getting my system up running after i changed motherboard (i am back on my be6-ii too with a P3-550). WD hds are very sensitive or something, they dont get along with many people, i guess. :-) When i have the chance i am going to change hds too. shhh, hope my hd doesnt hear this talk. But i think you can get the system running with both hds if you use the IBM for boot on the first channel (primary) and then connect the WD on the secondary ata66. Make sure you watch the jumpers on the hds!! The WD is very very picky on this! ANd go to HPT66 bios (ctrl-H) and check which is the boot drive. tells us if it works.

I tried overclocking my geforce ddr (creative) and i had some increase in fps, not that much, though. The geforce ddr is very overclockable, you can really push the core and memory clocks to the roof without blowing anything up. :-) One problem i had when i overclocked was with quake2, somehow the movement dididnt felt right, i cant really explain it, but it was like the screen was jerky, but not by lack of speed, more because of too muchj speed. :-P This was because the sync was off.

Another thing...crash99 said the performance difference on the regular ide and the ata66 is minimal, its not that minimal on some systems, like mine. That problem you (crash99) had with your sblive i had too, its because you cant plug any pci cards that use irqs, on the 3rd pci slot because it conflicts with the ATA66 controller. The ATA66 controller shares the irqs that the 3rd pci slot uses too. :-) Its a simple fix, i had that problem, my sblive didnt work well at all, i found out about that sharing problem and just switched the sb to the 4th pci slot, everything worked fine from then on. ATA66 boosts speed access quite a bit if your hd is ata66 capable (btw, blade, is your hd ATA66 capable?? if it isnt then theres your answer to all your problems)

Dont give up just yet, blade, since i was one of the culprits that made you go Abit. :-) Is your hd a Western Digital one by any chance? I ask this because the WD hds can have the ATA66 on/off, so that might cause a problem when you try to change it to the ATA66 controller without having the ATA66 option turned on in the hd. (you can turn it on/off using the disk at Western Dig site, the tools disk they have, forgot the exact name) Something like that happened with my BP6, everything is fine now and this is what i did: - clean win2k install, connect your ATA66 hd on the ATA66 controller, no other hds connected, cdrom on normal ide cable and controller. - boot from the win2k cd, watch out for the message on that bottom white bar asking if you want to install a third party SCSI or RAID card, press F6. - eventually, the win2k installation will ask you to insert the drivers on diskette for the controller you want to add, that will be the hot rod66 diskette that comes with the board. :-) - from then on its simple, install win2k as usual, the hd will be recognized normally and everything will work. hopefully. Let us now if you still have problems, ok?

My current system is: -BP6 with QQ bios -dual 500 celeron -dual boot win2k/98 -192mb ram -sblive -creative geforce ddr -WD 13,6gb ata66 hd -zoltrix 56k modem i am having problems with win2k because it doesnt detect my modem (and i am still waiting for isdn to be installed) the isdn card i have isnt recognized by win2k anyway. i have a be6-ii on my girlfriend's computer and i am seriously considering seeling my bp6 and the two celerons and getting myself a PIII550 and myu be6-ii back. What i need advise on is if i should do the change? Tell me what you think about the bp6 on dual mode, the piii550, performance comparisons, anything is worth the info, if you dont mind. The piii550 is also good for future upgrading, its easier for me to sell the pii than two celerons. Make thoise opinions roll in, battle it out, whos in favour of the bp6 with win2k? Then the be6-ii owners on the other side with piii550. :-) Please i need all the feedback i can get. Thanks.

It all depends on where you want the performance, i mean, the 820 has high points, but the BX has some too. I am confusing you, hehe. :-) I cant say how close those two specs would be to each other, but i think the 820+PIII550 would have better performance than the BX one, once again it will depend on what you run on it. This is my opinion: I would go for the BX chipset, i still dont have that many facts to trust the 820 that much yet, maybe my opinion will change when i see more results, but NOW i would decide for the BX, good enough? (hey, but see if you can get the PIII550 AND the BX ;-)) (Hope you got your coffee)

I read the thread a bit late but heres my opinion anyway. I have installed quite a few motherboards from chaintech to abit and i must say that my choice goes to Abit, definitely. I currently have a BP6 (dual celeron abit MB) and i am quite happy with it so far (still struggling with win2k drivers, etc, but its not the board's fault, hehe). As for the ABit BE6-II, thats the MB i had before this one, awesome board, the overclockability on the thing is crazy and it supports coppermine. I am considering changing to that board again (have to steal it back from my girlfriend's comp, hehe) because i want a PIII copper, its easier for me to upgrade than with two celerons. I have a friend that swears by intel MB, he has a capecod one and loves it, i think its i820, right? Well, the performance on the thing is not that much, i dont know why but the BX is always faster. As for the via chipset, i say a very big no no, i read somewhere it was strangled at the AGP port. I installed one and after some tests with it we saw the graphic aceleration (ok, quake2/3) was terrible under it, even with a good 3d card. Needless to say he sold it right after he saw the scores. :-) Also tried QDI motherboards, nothing fancy here, just normal MB, nothing worthy of note. Go for Abit, thats my opinion, the BE6-II is a great board, trust me, and the ATA66 on board works marvel, you have the chance of having 8 hds. hmm, abit released a new BIOS for it, i better download it. :-) Sorry for the long post, hope i helped somehow.

Well, i usually am a lurker, posting now and then when i think i can help or be helped (hm, think i only posted twice or so). but anyway, jdul is having a ball with all this, maybe its like he said in a previous thread, that 7 page one, he got what he wanted, getting a loong thread and laughing all the way through it. I dont mean this as an offense to anyone, includin jdul. just ignore the posts you dont like, let jdul have fun with his 0 posts threads. as for win2k, i have problems with it, mainly because of drivers and incompatibility problems, not the OS itself, although even the OS is not perfect. For people who know computer well enough, win2k will look and act good, and its just starting off, with not enough drivers, etc, like you guys mentioned, it will take time. For you, jdul, if you dont like win2k, or dont know how to take advantage of it, then leave it alone, use win9x and live happily ever after, play your games, apps, and stop bothering other people. The word "bothering" is very relative, you dont bother me with weird posts, i just dont read them. As for everyone else, ignore these silly posts and move on to serious stuff, like taking care of our shiny machines and try the best out of win2k, which is what i am doing right now, hehe. Although i admit sometimes we cant help replying to certain posts, right, guys? ;-)

I agree with mr_yellow on the timeline aspect, we are only thinking about the "now" problems. As for the dual coppermine issue, do tell us more, we will have coppermine celerons? or i am missing the point? :-) I ask becauyse i am having second thoughts about keeping this bp6/dual 500cel system and moving to be6-2 p3-600 one.
-
I agree with you, i went through hell and back in my conscience to finally go for this BP6 dual celeron 500 system (i had a PIII-500@550) and i was very disappointed to find that there wasnt that much support for it BIOS wise. :-( I love the Abit motherboards but this beta bios situation to get win2k working is not my idea of support. Hopefully Abit will release some official BIOS with everything working (you hear, Abit people??) and put this delicate situation behind us.

I am a newbie at this forum so can someone please explain whats the MPS thing? also have that problem with q3 locking up more than often. for the sake of argument a few days ago i had the chance to change my hd to a WD ATA66 15gb 7200rpm one, but the thing wouldnt work straight on my bp6, it kept locking everything up. maybe this info helps settle down some nervous heads with the same problem. :-P Heres my system specs: **** Abit BP6 running QQ Bios Dual 500 celerons 192mb ram creative geforce ddr WD UDMA66 13.6gb SB Live!
