Both ways work fine. Yes, the repair was extra work but it did work. The changing of the hal worked as well with less hassle and was much easier do to. Great find Clutch. That article rocked. Do you know what gets on my nerves? What gets on my nerves is that as I read some of these posts I see that a ton of them is actually answered in the Operating system help file. I know posting is fun but wouldnt you rather read something that makes sense all the time and has the right answer than wait for a reply that might be right but is written in broken english? I always check the help file first so this post was not in the help file but it was in Technet and I think we would get a better pot of tech questions if people would use the help files and technet.

Right click my computer Go to properties Go to the advanced tab Click on performance options Under swap file click options, I think. This list is your swap file list. You will notice there will be a number by your C:. Leave it there. Highlight the c: and then change the min and max to about 400. Make sure you click on the set button before you do anything else. Click on you other hard drive and add about 500 to the min and max and then click set. Apply the changes and click ok. Reboot. Windows 2000 will use the other hard drives partition first then will go to the c: when needed. This makes for almost 3 times the access times for you are now using and extra set of arms to do your paging for you which isnt going to be that much since you are using 386Mb of ram anyways. You should notice programs opening quicker and the overall system running smoother.

I have seen this same question posted about 30 times and I am not understanding the issue. Windows 2000 will automatically setup DMA if your harware supports it, if its needed, if its suppost to have DMA. YOU DO NOT NEED TO EDIT THE REGISTRY. If you are having to edit the registry for DMA then you need to look somewhere else for the problem. Tell me about your system and config and how you are coming to the conclusion that DMA is not installed. Tell me the hardware that you have (details please) and all that you have looked at. Even if your motherboard is setup in PIO mode 4 windows 2000 will still use DMA if your hardware supports it. Send me some details so that I might better understand this issue that keeps coming up. The reason for your icons arranged weird is that some programs install under the all users account and some under your specifc account. Whenever you arrange the icons by name it arranges the all user account first then your acccount second. If you want to see which are installed where then go to the taskbar and start menu settings and click start menu programs and then advanced. You account should pull up and you then double click on the programs icons. This is your list of programs. You wil see that on the left that there is also an all user or default or something like that. Click on that and you will notice that some programs are there while other are under you account but they all show up in the start menu.

What if you installed the second CPU and then ran REPAIR. Repair does do a hardware check and installs accordingly. Everyone told me on my windows 2000 pro install on c: that I would have a hard time dual booting with win98 since I was supposed to install 98 first but all I did was install 98 on a different hard drive and then run the 2000 setup disk to run the repair and everything is smooth like butter! I am going to try and do this on my 2000 server box right now. I have one PIII 600 and server already installed and im going to install the second cpu and run repair. Wish me luck. I will post up when I have the verdict. Anyone want to place some gentlemen bets?

When 98 box boots you should receive a network login box. Whatever the user name and p***word you use there needs to be created as a user on the W2K box. So you would create a new user and the name and p***word has to corispond with the 98 box. The reason for this is since you are not running a domain the only way to athenticate shared resources is with a local security policy setup on each and every w2k box you have. Since there is no domain there is no centralized authentication by one machine for the whole domain. You have to setup users locally on each W2k box and they must corrispond with the user name and p***word on the 98, 95, nt, 2000 operating systems.

Just want to see what some of you hard core gamers think about Windows 98 vs ME for the future of gaming for the next couple of years. Will Windows 98 remain the overall best OS for games or will ME beat it out when more hardware and software companies make for support for this new OS? Ok, so I have checked the website and asked around and no one can give me a release date for Tribes 2. All I know is that its coming out soon. I am a subscriber to the Tribes 2 newsletter and none of my emails state when the game is going to come out. Does anyone know or have any info on when the game is supposedly scheduled for released?

Easy Cheese! 1. You purchase two ip addresses. 2. Cable modem plugs into "uplinkport" on hub/switch. 3.You and your wife are plugged into regular ports on hub/switch. 4. Manually configure TCP/IP for NIC cards and specify IP address and so-on, for both computers. 5. Enjoy your cable service!

What about if you ping 10.0.0.2 from C. Can you get across the nic cards? I think all you need to do is change IP of 10.0.0.5 to 11.0.0.5 and everything else connected to that IP also change the 10 to 11. I think all we are dealing with is that 10.0.0.5 and 10.0.0.2 are different networks. In order for A and B to get to C the nic card that is attatched to A and Bs network needs to know that C is on another network and the fact that the gateway 10.0.0.2 doesnt know to forward packets to 10.0.0.5 because 10.0.0.5 is a local address. Disable RIP. Enable IP fowarding. Make the two nic cards gateways of each other and change the network ID (10 to 11) on one side of the network. (You can make static entries in the routing table if you wish and I can give you the entries if you like.) (I replicated this on my computer at home so I know this will work)
