Got your Voodoo to work in XP? Post it here!

I'm using the same drivers posted above and my V4 4500 seems to work just fine.

    anyone own Panaflo case fans?

I would go with the L1A series of panaflos. I have them and they are super quiet. They seem to blow enough air to get the job done also. You can get them at www.teamawe.com

    Win2K, NTFS ARRGH!

You can debug the drive to completely erase all partitions. Boot from a 98 Startup Disk and at the prompt type "debug". Then type the following EXACTLY (paying no attention to what comes up to the left of the cursor): F 220 L1000 0 (ENTER) A CS: 100 (ENTER) MOV AX,301 (ENTER) MOV BX,200 (ENTER) MOV CX,1 (ENTER) MOV DX,80 (ENTER) <---"80" for hd1, "81" for hd2 > INT 13 (ENTER) INT 20 (ENTER) (ENTER) <-------BLANK LINE "VERY IMPORTANT" > G (ENTER) "Program terminated normally" (CTRL)-(ALT)-(DEL) to reboot system Now fdisk and format and you should be fine. This has worked for me EVERY time.

    DI-701

I happen to be using the DI-701 and have to say that it works great! I have had no problems with games or running an FTP server program. Mine is connected to my D-Link 5 port switch and then to all of my computers. The GUI can be installed on as many computers as you want.

Windows 2k counter part to win98 msconfig?

You can get a third party startup manager or you can edit the registry. Just go to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

Win2000 cannot detect ME for duel boot

Put the files you got into the Windows dir. Open MS-DOS Prompt. It should give you "C:\WINDOWS>". Then just type "makebt32.exe". [This message has been edited by farphle (edited 02 November 2000).]

Win2000 cannot detect ME for duel boot

Once in DOS at the A:\> type "x:" without quotes (x being whatever drive letter your cdrom is). You should get "x:\>". Then type "cd BOOTDISK", enter. Your prompt should now be "x:\BOOTDISK>". From there it's "makeboot.exe a:". It should bring up instructions at that point.

Win2000 cannot detect ME for duel boot

*If you have a "BOOTDISK" dir on your Win2K CD* Try this: Boot from a Win98/WinME bootdisk. Put the Win2K CD into the drive. Change to the BOOTDISK dir. At the prompt, type "makeboot.exe a:". Then follow the instructions on the screen. I just did this so I know it works.

Win2000 cannot detect ME for duel boot

The link says: DOS 5 To WinME, Linux, NT4/W2k. Or just try http://myshed.net/sanx/technical.html.

Win2000 cannot detect ME for duel boot

It should be the first link on the page. I checked and it's still there. <shrugging>

Win2000 cannot detect ME for duel boot

I had that problem also. You will need to boot from the 4 Win2K setup floppies. If you don't have them, you can get them from www.bootdisk.com.

How to share files and printer

Set up a User account on the Win2K box using the computer name and password of the ME box. Then set your permissions when you share them.
  18. As far as I know that is normal. It did the same thing to me. It won't have any affect security wise so let 'em through. I went to grc.com and tested my ports and they all came up stealth. I say don't worry about it.

    Best DSL/Cable router?

Anybody have any recommendations on the best router/firewall on the market (other than a Linux server)?
  20. Would anyone happen to know why SWBell told me that in order to qualify for the "Customer Self Install" for DSL I had to be running Win98? I asked and they said it was a driver issue. What drivers? Are they expecting me to install some POS software on my stable system? To the best of my knowledge, all I need is the ethernet modem, my router (for the network), and my NIC. Am I missing something? I want to know if I can get rid of this bulls**t Win98 partition or not.

SWBell DSL (not PPPoE) and Win2K

Thanks guys! I already have my own NIC installed and my LAN is up and running with 2 other Win98 boxes. Just waiting for the *correct* modem. They sent me a USB modem, I called and refused it, they are sending me the ethernet modem I originally requested. Now all I need is the router and I'm set. I will have a static IP from a different ISP (I would never use SBIS) so I don't think that PPPoE will be an issue.
  22. Would anyone know why I can burn to CDRW but not to CDR? I've tried at least 6 different brands of CDR, and get the same errors with all of them. I get buffer underrun, power calibration area errors, and the like. Using ECDC 4.02c, ASPI is fine (see below), and I'm burning from the HD, CDRW is HP 8250i 4X4X24. Something else that puzzles me is that when my burner and CDROM are connected to my onboard Promise controller ASPICHK tells me "One host adapter detected.". When they are on the standard UDMA33 it says there are TWO host adapters. If anybody can help I would greatly appreciate it. You'd be saving me a TON of money (I've made 40 or so coasters in the last couple of weeks). BTW, I've uninstalled and reinstalled ECDC and ASPI numerous times, tried with and without the updates, no change. VERY puzzling problem w/ Adaptec ECDC

I'll try the drive in another system and see what happens. I can't see it being hardware related because I can burn CDRW, but you never know. My brother installed ECDC in Win2K Adv. Server with no ASPI update and it works perfect every time. Pisses me off.

    W2K reinstall

The boot info for Win2K needs to be deleted from the C: partition. Boot from the Win98 Start up disk and at the A: type "sys C:" (without quotes). This should overwrite the 2K info. If not try "fdisk /mbr" to rewrite the master boot record of C:.

    CD Drives have disappeared

I had the exact same problem with my 8250i and ended up reinstalling Windows.
