actually.. i think i just found an easier way.. open up 'dxdiag' (use the run menu).. and go to the sound tab. check the string in the device id. found out i had the full version of the sblive w/o opening the case.

how do i determine which version of the sb live i am running? (i'm using windows xp pro)

i'm having problems getting my wheel to work in quake 3. i've upgraded to the latest point release of quake 3, and that doesn't seem to help. i have a microsoft wheel mouse optical. i'm using the intellimouse 4.0 drivers as well. just using the basic windows xp drivers for the mouse didn't work either. i really like to use the wheel to switch weapons. is anyone else having this problem or knows how to fix it? system specs are here [anandtech.com].

Boot from cd does not work with my Abit Be6 II mobo
kritikal replied to Cardinal's topic in Hardware
I've always had this problem with my Abit BX6 R2 board. I choose the boot order: CD-ROM, HDD, FLOPPY (only choice with CD-ROM in it), and i put in a bootable cd. Unfortunately, it has never worked. Never reads the cd, just jumps straight to the hdd. It's a plextor 16/10/40A and I have the latest BIOS for the ABIT. When i get home, i'm gonna try what you said, and i hope it works for me! thanks for the tip!!! -
Running win2k pro final.. network is set up the following way: win2k machine is client on a two computer network. win98se machine is the host (i've yet to purchase a win2k compliant modem). Generally, i've had no problems with the network.. everything else works fine.. but whenever i try and access an ftp site through the network from the win2k machine, i get the following error message after a long wait on the list command: 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls (665 bytes). 426 Error. Transfere aborted. An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine. Is there anything special i need to do in order to get bulletproof to work? to the host? to the client? ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss."

Well.. one of the first things you should have done is checked Raven's Support BBS (it has answered this question literally dozens of times). You have 2 solutions: 1.) Using the TNT2 chipset (like your Diamond Viper), you can NOT run the game as an administrator (either it won't run at all or it is incredibly slow). The best thing to do is create a new user (PowerUser) and set the game to run as a different user (right click on the SoF.exe->Properties-> Run as different user). or the easier method: 2.) Download the latest patch that fixes this specific windows 2000 + tnt2 error: http://www.soffiles.com/download.php3?directory=files&filename=sof104patch.exe&ID=105 (if that doesn't work.. head to http://www.sofffiles.com and choose the link for the 1.04 patch from the main page) ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss."

Originally when i installed Win2k Pro (clean install), every time i popped an audio cd into either of my cdrom drives, Windows Cd Player would automatically open and begin playing the cd. Recently, this feature has stopped working. The auto-run feature is still enabled, but everytime i load an audio cd, i get the following message: Desktop: Access to the specified device, path, or file is denied. I am running the machine as an admin, and have only changed sharing permissions on a seperate drive to allow network access. How can i restore Windows Cd Player to run whenever i place an audio cd into my cd rom drives? ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss."

***info from annoyances.org*** Find the shortcut for Explorer, right click on it, and select Properties. Click on the Shortcut tab, and change the Target so it reads: c:\windows\EXPLORER.EXE /n, /e, d:\myfolder (where c:\windows is your Windows directory, and d:\myfolder is the directory in which you want Explorer to start.) Tip: To have Explorer start with My Computer, so no branches are initially expanded, use the following command line options: /n, /e, /select, c:\ ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss."

After installing real player plus 7 and the update, uninstalling net2phone, i still have a link to net2phone under the tools menu in internet explorer. Is there any way to get rid of this? ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss."

Mock Network Server: NT4 Server? Win2k Professional?
kritikal replied to SystemLogicMark's topic in Software
Win2k pro does have disk quota support: Just goto the properties of the drive you wish to enable quotas for (Windows explorer --> right click on drive icon--> properties --> Quota tab). ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss." -
As per "http://www.needforspeed.com/porsche/pc/index.html" Specs-->Requirements "Windows 95 or Windows 98(Windows NT is NOT supported" Congrats to those who can get it to run... good luck for those who can't. ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss."

I was wondering if there was a way to set up print quotas in win2k for other users (such as Guest accounts), specifically when sharing on a network full of win9x users. I have searched through the help files and have come up blank. I know how to setup print sharing and disk quotas, but can't figure out print quotas. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! ------------------ "Contrary to popular belief, there are many forms of ignorance, not all of which are bliss."
