sounds weird. Why not install with the soundcard in the system or make a slipstream install of sp3?

My opinion is nVidia. But ATI has been gaining ground recently. I still don't trust ATI's drivers, nVidia drivers seem to be more compatable/stable than ATI and ATI is just barely starting to have a good card anyhow. With the NV30 just around the bend I could give a crap about what ATI has to offer.

the cool thing about about blank is that if you are surfing and you want to go all the way back to the first site you visited you can click back multiple times and you will end up at that page rather than your homepage because about:blank doesn't count as a loaded page.

get win2k you will get usb even if you could find a serial or parallel webcam now it would suck absolute ass.

yea i thought that also till I was attaced by a virus recently and NAV Corp. Picked it up. Also I run IIS and that code red thing was pretty serirous for a while. The thing is windows update and other software and services like liveupdate from symantec make it really easy to get all the latest and stay protected. They can also be fully automated to do it all for you. So the question is why risk anything if you don't have to. Even if you don't have sensitive data it sure would be a bummer if a hacker hosed your system and you had to reinstall. Like you said you are an average joe so it would be a lot more time consuming to reinstall all the stuff on your computer that it would for a corporate tech or serious power user with imaging tools and automated install procedures. Not trying to dis you or make assumptions btw just rambling. I find that I do that a lot when I am drinking my whiskey. In fact I will shut up and get another glass.

i have a year before this .NET install times out i am definatly going to reinstall before that. RC2 is right around the corner and the final will be out after that with no time limit.

yea if the extraction program you are using is too old then it will give you errors reading newer file formats.

I was under the impression that gigabit ethernet nics atomatically pick up a direct connection and a crossover cable is not neccisary. This does make sense because the gigabit does use all 8 wires unlike 100Mbit.

yea it is a crappy option but an option none the less I have never used it I am running .NET enterprise edition here so I have no limitations anyhow.

yea and one more thing just gotta give a shout out for the old bx workhoarse I really don't think that any one chipset has been that good. It served so many uses and it was smp capable with great hardware compatability. I really wish that I didn't have to sell mine to get my Tyan Thunder board. But at least i know the person who i sold it to is getting lots of great use out of it. He put a gForce 4 in tha mutha and overclocked the FSB to 112 mhz. Anyway ramblings are now over... For now.

you could back up your files and uninstall then reinstall IIS that should mank sure that all the proper components are in place.

I am not trying to prove ya wrong or anything just bring other possibilities to light. The identical card issue seemed to be with certian chipsets on the card and the shared pci reasorces it was really weird and i doubt that i will see that type of problem again withe the newer series of chipsets. The 440bx is pretty damn old.
