Getting .NET Server, Enterprise 32 bit, 64bit--what to do w/
Four and Twenty replied to INFERNO2000's topic in Slack Space
i have run enterprise and standard server on my servers and basically the only diff is that enterprise supports clustering and rediculous amounts of memory and more than 2 processors. so probably for your / my purposes standard is all you need but for bragging rights it is more of a braggin right to have the most rediculous most expensive os on the planet -
thanks for the links i have saved them for later reference lucky for me so far win2k and .net have been easy to figure out for me and i haven't needed any of these type of resorces to get ad and other things going. However the servers on my network are not doing anything really crazy and my network is very small (10 pcs)

weird i never noticed that when i ran xp. I run .NET now and it is replicating files over the network via DFS all the time and running a web/ftp server and media file server. I never noticed any unusually high cpu usage. however i have a dual processor system so perhaps that is why. I don't think i have ever seen full 100% usage on both processors.

it is not for games but it runs them very well you just have to turn on hardware acceleration.

Just ordered a new 120 gig hard drive. for 130 bux -
i am using a dynamic disk striped software raid array for video editing the array consists of two 80 gig 7200 rpm maxtor ata133 ide drives on a promise ata 100 controller. I get 57 MB per sec reads and writes when i bench this array. It has been super fast for me and more than i need for the dv editing. I also put my page file on this drive which speeds up my system a lot.

never used the firewall tho don't really need or want it

Intel Application Accelerator: Anyone tried this software?
Four and Twenty replied to lumpy's topic in Software
alec this program is not for via chipsets. it is intel chipset specific do not use this on your vp6. It will probably fux0r your shiznit up. -
saw the link on the front page they sound pretty good but I was wondering if they are worth the switch from the super stable feature rich detonator 29.42 drivers which i am running now. http://www.omegacorner.com/

yea i found the article to be a bit dated also Win2k brought major advancements in IIS, NTFS, tread handling and scalability. Now with Windows.NET just around the corner proving to be stronger in the betas then even XP and the .NET iniative gaining serious momentum the NT platform has become even more speedy and reliable. I haven't heard much about linux for a while but my opinion remains the same. You get what you pay for, Microsoft makes a superior product but they want your money for it (sounds fair to me)

Here is my Cognac and my blunt there is nothing quite like Cognac, Marijuana and Tobacco. It's really not about getting drunk at all it is about felling really, really nice. However it is a stupidly expensive habit. I like the high end bottles of Hennesy and Hine and those start in at around $150 for a 1/5 and range up into the $600-$700 dollar range. So mostly I go over to my rich friends houses and drink their Cognac since they were the ones who got me started drinking the fine stuff anyway. I am glad to see that my suggestion turned into such a popular thread allready <edit> I dug up some info about Cognac off the net just in case you guys were interested. All Cognac is brandy, but not all brandy is Cognac. While brandy can be made anywhere, true Cognac--an alcoholic distillate that captures the fragrant spirit of the wine--can be created only in a precisely delimited area of the Charentes region of south-western France. It is an area whose renown lies in a unique combination of geography, geology and history--of earth, air and fire. Here, the Hine family has been creating fine Cognacs since the 18th century, when Englishman Thomas Hine married into a great Cognac family and developed the company to which he gave his name. The present generation of Hines, Jacques and Bernard Hine, carry on the family tradition from the original Hine residence, with its tall windows overlooking the River Charente to the Grande Champagne vineyards beyond. It stands proudly in Jarnac at the very heart of the region. Family Reserve (Grande Champagne) Aged an average of 45 to 55 years, Family Reserve is made of Cognacs from the Grande Champagne district only. It carries on a tradition established by previous Hine generations, who reserved small batches of a specially created blend in their cellars, appropriately named Paradis. That Family Reserve was strictly rationed for family occasions and privileged guests; today's Family Reserve is released in a limited number of bottles each year. Family Reserve has extraordinary breeding which unites all the qualities of a great Cognac: the nose is extremely rich and aromatic, marked by great distinction and strength of character, subtle floral and sylvan perfumes and delightful rancio. The palate notes mellowness, plenitude, and finally a long finish. The smallest sip lingers. </edit> -
Here is my Cognac and my blunt that covers all the catagories except getting savagely hammered when i do that i prefer vodka like grey goose or belvader or some nice whiskey like Jonnie Walker.

Quote: I have another online merchant to stay away from http://www.pc-beyond.com "Beyond Computer Inc." Not only are they out of stock on much of what I wanted to order (which their website does not accurately represent), but it's one of those places that nobody who works there speaks English as their first language. They called me "dude" once when I was talking to them. Stay away. yea they sold me promise ata66 cards that had somehow become modified to fastrak raid66 cards or something then they wouldn't take them back cause they said that i modified them. It sounds strange I know but I am too drunk to explain right now. Point is beyond computer sucks and their techs are dumb.

Quote: I tell you what guys, a chat room is perfect idea. The pub is a perfect idea, the women is a perfect idea. But i dont like beer, i think a vodka martini is better I think we need to start a thread in the other section where we post our favorite drinks/brands and how we enjoy them, pictures would be cool to.

Recommendations for an ftp /http server

Quote: I can see where you are coming from in the familiarity part of it, but it's hard to actually get familiar with something without actually loading it first, right? Also, there are enough articles on technet about how to set it up, and one can just get IISLockdown from MS and not have any issues at all. Another good place for IIS info is www.iisanswers.com. IIS lockdown is part of IIS 6 on .NET all you have to do is enable what you need and it works great. I love the web based remote admin and terminal features also. -
Quote: It seems more like an everyday battle to prove who has the best of the best when infact, it really is "in your face". Not to mention that the best of the best is sometimes the dumbest move. No offense, but who needs that much graphic and that much sound in their faces? The human eye can only see so much and the human ear can only hear so much, and the human mind can only process and understand/notice so much. After a certain point, it becomes a popularity contest and is there for glamor only. For example: Someone who plays games, runs everyday internet programs and runs his small business using a 1.0 Ghz Machine, 512 MB RAM, GeForce 3 Video and SB Live! X-Gamer 5.1 Someone else who plays games, runs everyday internet programs and runs his small business using a 1.8 Ghz Machine, 2 GB RAM, GeForce 4 Video and SB Audigy! The different is hardly even noticed....just in the device manager and sales receipts. I know that even 5 years from now I will laugh at this post, but I'm talking as a whole here, considering the future, but also considering the present and short-term. Anyone care to comment on the direction the world is taking with hardware in not only computers, but even consoles? what's this? Jdulmange trying to stur up another huge thread.

well to get a picture a connection would have to be made then dropped. win2kpro/xppro is limited to ten connections win2kserver/.NETserver default to 10,000 connections and you can set it to more, so obviously these are the operating systems intended for serving as the name implies. The other option that will probly work if you wanted to run win2k pro is to get 3rd party ftp and http servers. Linux or FreeBSD are also great options. -

well if you are running win2k iis is easy enought as long as you have one of the server versions. Pro is limited to ten connections. I use iis for remote admin, http, and ftp on my Windows.NET servers and I works great! -
Norton is the best I use the corporate version and the network admin is great. You can set up auto updates and install the client program onto workstations from the server it is really easy and powerful.
