Recommendations for an ftp /http server
Four and Twenty replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Hardware
if you have office you can install msde2000 instead of getting the full sql license this will save you like at least 700 bux and you can still run the latest sql. -
it is so funny how this debate gets so opinionated when really it is 2 simple facts. Intel makes a higher quality product and they want more money for it AMD is cheap and that is what they have going for them

i don't like the sound of rising prices but then again there is allways a deal to be found

WinXP Multitasking < Win2k Multitasking?
Four and Twenty replied to GHz's topic in Customization & Tweaking
i like the task handling in .NET server better than 2k or xp. XP was a little slow. -
half life MP is the only game that i have that crashes on a regualar basis on every computer in my house. Things may never be too stable but i don't think that they should be that buggy. It is most surely some new thing that nvidia did with their drivers that half life hasn't been updated for. All comps in my house run the 29.42 drivers

i like dameware nt utilities also their remote desktop can install on other machines and it works great.

NAV Corp 7.6 is the one

edit the c:\boot.ini file also what kind of problems were you haveing with svchost? Did you know that that is just a program for running dll's on your system, it is normal to have many running.

half life/ cs just suck they have allways been buggy peices of **** my bro plays on my server for hours on end with no crashes then sometimes it will crash like 3 times in a row. sometimes it will be loaded for days without crashing. q3 sof 1 and 2 and nfs5 all run great on the same machine. Unreal aswell. My conclusion is that halflife has allways been buggy and that the patches make it better but it kinday reminds me of win98 in a way. Sometimes 98 would run great other times shitty kinda like luck of the draw or something. BTW i get the same random crashing on my computer from time to time with half life. My computers both have intel chips and chipsets and Geforce 2's with all the latest software/updates. I have had the random crashing of hl with win2k xp and .net funny thing is i used to play halflife on win98 for hours and i don't remeber it crashing at all.

Quote: Faster? IIRC, the dual optical only samples at 2000 images per second. As each sensor can only compare it's own images to detect movement, I doubt the claims of it being "twice as fast". Even if it were, though, 4,000 ips is still slower than 6,000. yep explorer is the bomb i never thought back in the days of win 3.11 that i would end up liking ms products so much but they really have it going on now. I love my Natural KB Pro also

Quote: http://www.nvworld.mu/cgi/forumdisplay.c...&LastLogin= I just read the most funny **** on this board here is one of the posts: I have a big problem too. I've just bought a great Geforce2 MX 400, but I can't plug it to my motherboard! Here are some slot's but they are to short and small, and I decided to cut some contacts from my new video card. It was much smoke and now both of them, my motherboard and Geforce 2 are broken. My russian friends tell me that I "tupoi kritin i chainik". But I don't understend them. Can you help me, please? ^what an idiot

Quote: 1. Install and implement Microsoft SUS where do you get SUS and why can't i run it on my domain controller? The only 2 servers on my network are pdc and bdc i am not going to be psyched about setting up another comp just for updates but i might do that i have an old celeron that i was going make into a game server maybe i could get it to do alot more than that
-
i was all for 2k then i liked xp now i am .NET only XP just gets in the way
-
I have it on my server and my workstation the server is the pdc and my ws is the bdc. All the kids that i live with are on xp except for 1 on win98 everything works great. .Net is better on my workstation than xp is. Much snappier even with the heavy disk access that .NET requires. I really can't say enoungh good stuff about .NET iis 6 is the bomb all the features of xp (enable what you like) boots damn fast active directory and distributed files system kick *** that 10 connection limit in xp was really killing me the default in .NET is 10,000 lol Random note it is 4:44 am at one of my offices here in VT I just had a police officer arrive at my door an serve me a noise violation because a house nearly a mile away could "feel my music" when he was giving me the ticket i just didn't care he was really pissed apparently he was off duty and at home people just don't understand me in this town. I stay up all night and listen to house music and i guess that doesn't really jive. anyway enought of my ramblings

ne one who still likes fat 32 hasn't gotten a big hard drive yet i have an 80 gig and a 120 drive and a 150 gig raid array. You can't make a fat 32 partition over 32 gigs what a friggin joke. NTFS has security. It is the NT File System, FAT32 is really only there for backward compatability.

MS is kinda sneaky and full of BS sometimes....
Four and Twenty replied to pmistry's topic in Slack Space
Quote: Yea, no one likes the fact that Microsoft forces you to upgrade your OS every so often to get access to the latest and greatest (ie NT only supports DirectX 3 etc). But think about it, when Ford comes out with a new car they don't upgrade your old one. If Sony comes out with a new DVD player that plays MP3's they don't send out new firmware for the old systems. Your PlayStation 1 isn't upgradable either. Sony is forcing you to buy a new Playstation by releasing games that are not PS1 compatible. Microsoft is certainly not the greatest company in the world, but if you want new features and functionality you gotta pay for it. Or you can always put Linux on your home PVR box like I did and spend 2 weeks adding drivers and rebuilding the kernel to make it work (somewhat). It's free, but you get what you pay for IMHO. Probably one of the best posts about reality i have seen on this board on a while. MS = Good product Good product costs money pay money get good product or just steal it or something people ***** all the time about MS it just gets old I mean if MS didn't come along we would all be using macs imagine that! -
WinXP not detecting Ethernet Adapters?
Four and Twenty replied to Phalanx-Imawano's topic in Hardware
Quote: Yes the box of the NIC had the WinXP logo on it, plus the older Microsoft Windows Logos having compatibility claims with Win2k, WinNT 4.0, WinME, Win98, and Win95. And the driver diskette had a folder and files for a WinXP driver, and when I told the New Device Wizard to use that driver, the Wizard didn't warn me that the drivers weren't digitally signed by Microsoft. WTF? That is really weird It should have worked great right from the start -
post your system specs- XP ony computers plz
