The thing is XP is not really a rip off it is windows it bears only the most superficial resembelece to the mac os. it still works like windows and feels like windows. If it really was a mac rip off i would suck cause mac sucks. ms does not need to rip off apple anymore cause apple really might as well not even exist.

if you have win2k pro installed you can point the nic install to the win2k winnt/inf dir from whistler. then extract whatever dlls and such it needs to install the drivers from the driver.cab i had to do this for my scanner with 2428 the tricky part is figuring out which inf belongs with the files that you extract from the cab file but that is only neccisary if you want all the install files in one folder for later use

The PS/2 for KB, and the "optional" USB port if you want to use the USB ports on the KB. I wonder if yours is a later model...</font> My manual says the same thing it is bs tho i just use the usb. To hell with the legacy crap i use all usb. Also my computer boots plenty fast and does not boot any faster with the ps2 plugged in. But that is using winxp it may slow your boot time in win2k i don't know i don't use 2k anymore. -
I have an old compaq armada with a 3com pcmcia network card. there is no cd rom drive it has a 777 meg hard disk and a floppy. It has ms dos 6.22 on it now. I want to get a win 9x on it probly 98se. I have the dos and windows drivers for the network card. Is there anyway that i can make this computer read one of my network shares from one of my winme or win2k machines from dos. I figure if i can do that i can just make a network share with the win98se install files on it and run it that way. Any thoughts on how i might acomplish this? Is this even possible?

it is not to bad on ram. I have outlook 2k and a few ie processes and a dozen programs in my tray and it is eating 164 megs of ram. That is not to bad is it? I would say that a power user with win xp will want like 384 megs of ram or more cause it is very easy to use over 300 megs.

I run winXP 2428 for a while and then all the sudden winamp gives this error about not being able to read the file format of my mp3s which are perfectly fine. Also there is no sound in the rest of the system after this happens until i restart. Very strange problem. ALl the mp3s are coming off of my 76.3 gig maxtor. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2428 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card 2 x Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controlers 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro

I am using 2428 as my primary os right now and i have not even booted 2k or me since i got 2428 set up 1.What will be the difference between 2428 and final release (except small bug fixes) ? Hard to say there could be more new features. I expect to see some big changes/improvements in the beta 2 release. 2.Will games run faster on XP (2428) ? yes i now get the same framerate in 2428 that i do in winme and about 10% better than win2k. 3.Is 2428 stable enough for home use? that is a funny question the 9x line has been the os for home users and not very stable. there is really no comparing the stability of a 9x to whistler. it is has been very stable for me better than 2k. 4.Will i make a big mistake changing to XP 2428? Because i intend to use this version untill final release. Possibly 5.Are windows 2000 drivers (graphic card, sound card...) good for XP? Or should i download drivers for 98 or ME ? 2k drivers do the job what you need to know is that results may vary this is a beta and it happens to work very well for me. but other betas have not worked for me. also there have been alot of people compaining about problems with this build so nothing is garanteed. I would say wait for beta 2 and run that but if you can't wait then this build should hold you over till the final. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2428 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card 2 x Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controlers 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro -
