Four and Twenty

I have been using windows xp build 2428 for a few days now as my main os. It has performed exceptionally. I never imagined that it would be so much faster than windows 2000. It boots as fast as winme and has all the 2000 features and then some and it is a dream to work with. The new UI not only doesn't slow things down it actually works much better/faster than 2000. I have not wanted or needed to boot 2k or winme since i got whistler installed. I think that when the final XP comes out i am gonna ditch the triple boot config cause xp does it all. i don't mind it but i was asking this kid to post the reg key to prove what you have just stated that i can't be done. If you actually use your computer how often do you even see your desktop?

I primarily use NTFS with a 4096 byte allocation unit size. Is that the same as cluster size. If so would it make sense for me to use 4k clusters in my RAID 0 setup. I can't go lower than 4K and i can't go higher than 64K so i wonder what i should do. I have one FAT 32 partition aswell will that be affected the same way. Or will it even be a noticeable diff? I think I need to go do some research and find this sh1t out cause i want to be getting the best possible performance out of my hardware.

I have mine set to raid 0 with both hard drives set to master. I have been using this setup for a while now and have had no problems with it. As 5731 said it is better to have them on separte ide channels. That is why all the drives in my system are on separate cables and why i bought an additional controller card for my storage drive even though i could have run it on the onbaord controller or on my original raid card. I would still like to know if 64k blocks are the best or if larger blocks gives better performance. I imagine that there must be some performance diff as all the raid controllers that i have seen have this opption. i don't think that there is any such program available. If you run sp1 and your pc will not boot you are most likely going to have to reinstall.

xp is definatly the shiznit but to say that 2000 is crap in comparison is total bs cause xp is mostly win2k. As for not upgrading until an os is released i used win 2k and win me in their beta stages and i am now using 2428 as my primary os. I was having some problems with win2k that just were not getting solved by the updates and so far i am having no problems with xp and it is incredibly fast. 2428 runs better on my sys than win me or win2k and the new features are nice. XP is only a minor upgrade for a win2k user however all of the minor upgrades amount to some majorly obvious advances in the interface, ease of use, compatibility, etc.

i figure that when i am rich i will do the right thing and buy all the programs but right now i can not afford it no way. so i pirate the software that i need/want and i dont feel bad about it cause it hurts ms and adobe and who ever else very little cause i would not buy the software anyway so in a way they are not really losing anything at all. I kinda justify it in like a robin hood kinda way like the rich are supporting adobe and the software pirates are like robinhood and i am like the poor and i download the stuff for free but as i said i wouldn't buy it anyway so the software giant loses no sales. Maybe that is wrong and i should be put behind bars for my crimes but then again maybe i should be locked up for puffin the herb or driving 150 mph in a 40. **** money **** the system do what you please steal what you need live for you **** everything else.

I have found a bug in windows xp 2428 with adobe photoshop 6. It seems that sometimes when i save to network shares that i have made available as offline files using the save for the web applet it will cause explorer.exe to crash and i can end that but then i cannot end the photoshop.exe process and i can not log off and i end up having to hit the reset button. It only happens when i save to network shares that have been made available offline. If i work off of my local drives there is no problem. I absolutely hate windows 98 first and second edition and since i like win2k i prefer win me because it has roughly the same look and feel. It is eaisier to install cause it has all the drivers for my system built in, it does not take two weeks worth of downloads from windows update to get it up to date and it boots much faster. I would pick winme over 98 any day for my 9x of choice. The fact of the matter is i don't use it or 98 anymore i keep winme around just incase i need to extract some war3z with a DOS app or something like that. All my gamming is done on XP.
