here is my boot.ini i have win me on c: win2k on d: and Whistler on e: [boot loader] timeout=5 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows Whistler Professional" /fastdetect C:\="Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition" as you can see to boot win me you don't need all that arc path crap that nt needs you just need to specify the root. The only problem that i can see here is that win98 thinks it is installed on c: if you have been using the drive as master. when you have it set as slave it will be d: and win98 might be a little pissed about that but that is only hypothetical i have never tried it so i don't know. Also your win2k partition must be fat32 or win98 will not boot. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single piece of software that I actually own

I just got a new Mobo,processor , and case
Four and Twenty replied to imtim83's topic in Slack Space
256 megs of ram is a fine place to start you will apprecitate the performance increase over 128. Also there is nothing wrong with maxtor drives i have 3 of them in my sys some old and some new and they all work flawlessly. One advantage of maxtor over ibm besides price is that maxtor drives are quiet where as ibm dirves are very noisy. -
any way to get ata 100 suport in w2k ?
Four and Twenty replied to DEVIL_DK's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I am not sure that anyone would really be able to tell the difference between ATA 100 and 66 as the drives rarely if ever put out more than 66 megs in a second. So the only performance increase that you are likely to see is in the burst transfers from the physical cache on the hard disk itself. I haven't seen anymore than 2megs of ram on an ide disk so at a 100 meg per second transfer rate the 2 megs of disk cache would be transferred in .02 seconds instead of .03 seconds on ata 66. As you can see until we start to see IDE drives with a spindle speed of like 10 or 15 k this ATA 100 is really only a negligible performance difference at best and I think that it is really just another marketing ploy. -
I have noticed weird "pauses" on my friends A7V where it looks as though the system is totally locked and then all of the sudden it is functional again. It is very strange and i was not able to solve the problem but I though you might be interested to know that other people experience pauses with this board as well.

I had a promise u66 card that had been modded for raid before i boutght the abit hotrod pro and i have to say that it was a night mare my system was totally unstable it rebooted all the time and just did all sorts of weird **** . Then i got the hot rod pro and i have been very happy with it ever since. My recomendation to you would be to just buy the hot rod pro it has all the features you could ever want and costs about 50 bucks with fedex shipping. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single piece of software that I actually own

i have seen that before trying to setup an abit KT7 RAID. We didn't need a RAID arry on that setup though so i just moved the hard drive to the other controller until win2k setup was complete and the drviers were loaded then moved it back. Obiously you can't do that when seting up a raid arry. Try clearing the bios using the jumper then setting only the options you need sometimes this has helped me get rid of weird error when trying to load win2k.

Which is better on a 30G HD: 2 or 15 partitions?
Four and Twenty replied to oldspice's topic in Software
I have run my hard drives with many partitions and no partitions and i have never noticed a performance increase or decrease when changing between partitioned and nonpartitioned drives. Get RAID if you want to boost your performance. I am amazed at how fast my games load on this old 500 Mhz Dell. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single peice of software that I actually own -
Yes Praetorius system "bigger than mine" (needs more ram though) Are you trying to say that you are better than me or something cause you built your own system? I build systems and do computer consulting to earn a living and have built dozens of computers. If I had money to spend on all new parts to build my own system I would but I have other things to pay for like food and shelter. My dell was given to me when I went to college last year and it still works well for me. I am saving up to get my dual p3s or maybe even some p4s. So why don't you take your "bigger computer" and shove it up you a.ss. [This message has been edited by Four and Twenty (edited 12 February 2001).]

I bought a sony spressa 12x burner a couple weeks ago for my burning station and so far have been very happy with it. I have made a few coasters but that is the fault of one of the hard drives in that sys cause it is old and slow i can only burn a 8x off of it.

Is there a way that I can have two pop3 email addresses setup in Outlook 2k SR1 so that when I make a new message and hit send I asks me whitch address to send on. Currently I have to toggle the default mail account back and forth between the two addresses. This seems like a simple enough thing to be able to do and I think I have even seen I done on a friends comp but I can remember how to do it.

Mutiple email accounts under Outlook 2K
Four and Twenty replied to Four and Twenty's topic in Software
unfortunatly that is not a solution for my problem because I don't really have any pop3 email accounts. I receive all my mail through hotmail which i have several aliases forward to and then i just bounce all my out going mail off of the my isp's mail server. the reson that I don't have an pop3 email from them is cause i don't actually pay them for service. I made myself a photocopy of the connection info for my moms multi user account from a place she used to work at and i have been connecting for free ever since. Anyway i have hotmail account incomeing and 2 pop3s set up for outgoing. What i want the thing to do is ask me what account to send on when i hit the send button. -
Need recommendations for the best dual processor motherboard It must have support for dual p3s at 1 ghz 4x agp would be nice but 2x would be fine has to have support for 2 gb of pc 133 ram or more also must have plenty of pci slots on board sound is not necessary ata100raid would be good stability and compatibility are key here Also is the via chipset for intel platform ok or is it as shitty as the via chipsets for athlon are. added 256 megs of ram now computer periodiclly reboots
Four and Twenty replied to ThC 129's topic in Software
Why don't you give Kingston a call all of their ram has a lifetime warranty and the will even ship a replacement overnight at no extra charge. All you have to pay is return shipping. -
to my knowledge it has not yet been changed. I have built quite a few systems with the g400 and the g450 and i did not find a work around for this issue. It is not exactly a bug persay it is that win2k looks at the card as one big wide desktop not two individual ones. What i would recomend is that you buy a more powerful geforce pure and a cheap pci board for the second monitor. I got my pci card for $22.50 including shipping I think that i got it a http://www.compgeeks.com/ ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single peice of software that I actually own

my sys is plenty fast but in my opinion a noticeable performance hit for look good features is not worth it. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single peice of software that I actually own

I don't mean to piss everyone off..........

are you serious ns6 is a big pile of sh1t i don't care about the memory aspect cause i have 512 megs of ram but that browser sucks *** . I downloaded it the other day cause i am working on a web site and i was curious to see how it looked in netscape. and the page that i built actually can look three different ways sometimes it will be ****ed up one way sometimes another and then sometimes it looks almost exactly like it does in ie. They still have not gotten the CSS figured out in netscape and i am starting to wonder if they ever will. But then after i thought about it a little bit i realized tha i don't care how my site looks in netscape cause netscape sucks and hardly anyone uses it anyway. And what the phuck is whith all the advertising in it. This peice of timewarneraol bullsh1t sends me to a netscape store to buy my new printer ink and various other things. It is bad enough that there are frickin' banner ads all over the net now the god damn ads are built into the software F U C K T H A T I hope that this type of sh!t does not happen to winamp which is also owned by aol/timewarner now, cause i really like that program. -
I bet that "multimedia video controller" in the device magager is the very card that you are trying to install try right clicking on it and go to properties then go to the driver tab and click update driver then the add new hardware wiz comes up then click next then check the radio button that says "display a list of drivers so that i can choose" then click have disk and then browse to where you have the drivers Hope this helps
