what the hell r u talking about?

also there is an updated application compatibility toolkit available from the M$ website. You may have better results with the newer version as the one that comes on the win2k cd does not work all that well from my experience.

that could really scare someone

I made a win2k cd with sp1 on it and that is probly why my install only takes up 800 megs.

http://www.stardock.com/ I also had quite a few of the Windows Me Betas and i never saw it in any of the releases that i had either. The OS can do it but it is slow as death. Win2k handles this much better.

. ntfs is more effiecient than fat32.??? WHY?
Four and Twenty replied to Cypress's topic in Software
Your appz and gamez don't care what file system you use. -
it is not there. Download windowblinds and watch your system slow to a crawl. You don't really need that fade sh1t anyways. It looks good but that is all it does. the problem that i have with it is that it slows me down that split second that it fades in is a split second that i have to wait so i turn off all the menu effects.

Um lets say i have 512 megs of ram (which i do) and i never really use all of it (which i don't) why do i need a paging file? I know that that is where the memory dumps go but my computer doesn't crash and i have it set up not to do a mem dump even if it does crash. So i guess what i am wondering is is it possible to disable the paging file all together (like i can in winme). I can make it like 2 megs but then it gets all pissy and says that it is going to increase the size automatically. I currently have it set to 50 megs and it seems to be working fine but i want to get rid of it all together any ideas? [This message has been edited by Four and Twenty (edited 25 January 2001).]

Yeah it is definatly that disablepagingexec tweak that does it cause as soon as i turn it off the random program crashes stop entirely. It is strange tho cause i have used this tweak for a long time and it only recently started to cause these problems. I suppose that it must be conflicting with some other tweak or program that i have set up.

NTFS is really the only way to format my 81.9 gig hard drive as one partition.

Upgrading CPU/Memory - How will this affect Win2K Pro?
Four and Twenty replied to RussellWild's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I would recomend the smallest possible swapfile possible. If you have 512 megs of ram you just don't need it. I have my swap file set to 20 megs in win2k and totaly disabled ing Win Me and Wistler and everything runs great here. Hope fully swap files will soon be a thing of the past. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single peice of software that I actually own -

Stability for one Multitasking Customizability (think i made that one up) It looks cool It has way more features It uses my 512 megs of ram alot better NTFS Security reliability. I don't have to reinstal it as often (The only times that I have had to reinstal win 2k were because i wanted to repartition my hard drives or change hard drives) Once you boot it up it gets faster as u use it not slower No more illegal operations I reboot when i want to. It doesn't suck ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single peice of software that I actually own

On my system Windows ME still beats both Win2k and Whistler by about 7 fps in Quake 3. I use Win ME for all my gamming needs. Although whistler will run all the games that i have and it seems to run them smoother than win2k (althought the framerates are almost exactly the same.) I can't wait until Wistler comes out then i will build myself that dual processor comuter that i have allways wanted and leave all this triple booting and win 9.x **** behind. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single peice of software that I actually own
