Have you tried running it a 60 and seeing how that feels and then putting it on 100 to see if it is really making a diff or not. Why don't you just buy a laser mouse. I purchased an IntelliMouse Explorer a couple of months ago and it was one of the best purchases I have ever made for my PC. I sounds like you are concerned about the performance of your mouse which is an excelent reason to use a laser mouse.

Does this mean that my system will cache 8000 icons now? That seems a little excessive but that is ok I'm all for it. -
Bob Marley on Black I used to have pictures of kind buds on my desktop but I have found that that is dangerous to my stash cause I think about it and then go smoke it.

Why don't you try opening up the device manager then find your mouse and open up its properties then go to advanced settings you can set the sample rate there.

Is there any way to disable this warning. I have a friend with a laptop and win2k and a mem stick with a pcmcia adapter. Every time he pulls out the stick or the card he gets Unsafe removal of device.

Guys How well would this system run Win2k pro?

um what is wrong with overkill i plan to put another 256 meg dimm in my pc when i can afford it. -
I know that you are suposed to stop the device but that is more of a pain in the a.ss than just click ok when it warns you. I have not been able to figure out where to turn this warning off.

When i have disablepagingexecutive set to 1 mcafee virus scan crashes every so often and i have to enable it agian. And sometimes when i close winamp and open it back up again right away it crashes. but if i wait a little while it will run again. weird.

Update: I was able to disable the paging file in whistler entirely. But I still cannot get the win2k paging file any less than 20 megs. So I guess I will just have to wait until whistler is good enough to be my primary OS or perhaps even my only OS.

Thanks for the help altough i still cannont disable the paging file. I went into regedit only to find out that that disable paging executive thing had allready been done. I guess that there is no more tweaking that i can do. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controler 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single peice of software that I actually own

One thing that i don't like in whistler is when you have the classic start menu and the expand control panel option turned on it takes a hell of a long time for the menu with all the control panel items on it to open up. Other than that i think that the code is good. It still has a ways to go for sure. I am still using 2296 so i am sure that it has already gotten a bit better. Generally the major diff that i notice between win 2k and whistler is the mem usage is much higher in whistler like 20 - 40 megs more. for me that is ok i could give a **** but i imagine that could cripple a sys with like 128 megs. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 Windows Whistler Pro 2296 Windows Millennium Final Retail PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 512 Megs Ram Guillemot Maxi Gammer Cougar (TNT2 M64 w/ 32 Megs of RAM) Matrox Millennium PCI (w/ 4 Megs of RAM for second monitor) 3Com Etherlink XL 10/100 Ethernet Card Abit Hot Rod Pro ATA-100 RAID Controller 2 x 12.6 Gig Maxtor Hard Disks RAID 0 (for system) 1 76.3 Gig Maxtor Hard Disk (for storage) 40X LG CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Iomega Internal Zip Drive MS Explorer Mouse MS Natural Keyboard Pro And not a single piece of software that I actually own [This message has been edited by Four and Twenty (edited 30 January 2001).]

so is nonags going to continue to have further betas on their site or was that a one time deal. I would love to secure a sorce for future builds of whistler and a subscription to nonags is cheap.

I need a good recomendation for a usb video camera for win2k. It will be used on an system with an Asus A7V.

I am begining to think that it is not possible for me to disable the paging file. And that sucks. The reason that virtual mem was created was because peolple could not afford enough ram to run their programs. now you can get 256 megs of ram for a little over a hundred bux so it is cheap to build a sys with enough mem to run all programs with mem to spare. what bothers me more is that in win 9x/me i can easily disable the virtual mem but with windows 2000 / whistler there is no way (that i can find) for me to do it.
-
oh yeah i forgot to mention i am using win 2k and whistler and i would like to get rid of all paging files as soon as possible. Disabling the virtual mem in winme has done wonders for the performance.

i have the abit hot rod pro 100 and it works great i would recomend it for both price and performance i had a promise fastrak 66 and it was an absolute peice of s.hit so i got the abit card and i can now i have no stability problems whatsoever. I was looking over my event veiwer and i saw this message The value named IRPStackSize in the server's Registry key LanmanServer\Parameters was invalid. The value was ignored, and processing continued. It occurs at every boot. So i did a search for the IRPStackSize key and deleted it (after backing it up to a .reg file first) Problem solved no more error. So does any one know what that key does?
