try opening winipcfg on 98 and renewing the ip address.

I use it more than win 2k it is more reliable cooler looking and faster. It does not agree with winamp though. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 / Windows Millennium Final PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive

Win Me is my 3rd boot option and it runs great but i don't ever run it for very long. I use it to play a game every now and then a nd i t does the job better than 98 or 2k. My primary OS right now is Whisler because it is more stable and reliable than W2K SP1. I have never left Win Me going for more than 30 mins so the mem leaks are not a prob. Also don't have a whole mess of programs installed just games and a tnt2 overclocking program. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 / Windows Millennium Final PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive -

I need a fresh copy of the \windows\web\nethood.htt It's seems mine has been corupted. I have replaced it with the nethood template from win2k but this is a rathr ugly solution. If someone could send a copy of their nethood.htt file to friendofkindbuds@hotmail.com that would be great. Keep in mind this is a system file so you my not be able to view it without changing some folder options to see it. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 / Windows Millennium Final PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive

good idea but to no avail the cut and paste only made the file give the sys more script errors. The win2k copy works but it looks funny with the rest of the os. So it is no big deal but if someone could send this file to me it would be good.

Autoexec and Startup Prog Options
Four and Twenty replied to MiShY's topic in Customization & Tweaking
1) Any ideas ???? Nope sorry 2) i looked in my task manager and tweak ui is not running so i don't know what it is that your software is detecting perhaps the system reviews the contents of the control panel at boot and that is what makes startup cop detect it - well whatever i don't know tweak ui is a must for me 3) i was thinking the bios update not as disk repair ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 / Windows Millennium Final PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive -
Autoexec and Startup Prog Options
Four and Twenty replied to MiShY's topic in Customization & Tweaking
1) use win98 to make boot disk put you autoexec.bat and you bios update on that and the run it 2) tweak ui is a control panel it changes registry settings it does not load when your system boots as far as i know 3) think twice before you take of 98 it is nice to have around for games making boot disks and running programs that 2k doesn't but if you want to remove it boot to win2k and delete all win 98 files on you computer and edit the c:\boot.ini so that it defaults to win2k and has a timeout value of 0 ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 / Windows Millennium Final PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive -
open start menu properties hold the "alt" key and then press the "d" key then hit ok ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Triple Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 / Windows Millennium Final PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive

what he means by 9.x support is that ms is going to move all home users to the nt code base which means that it will have to have the wide range hardware & software support that win9.x currently has. But it will not literaly have 9.x support. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Dual Boot Windows 2000 Pro 2195 / Windows Whistler Pro 2250 PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive

I was wondering since IE 5.5 is not included in w2k sp1 and 5.01 is and i have ie 5.5 final installed on my computer now will i have to reinstall ie 5.5 over 5.01 after sp1 is installed? I guess i should plan a day or two of downloading next week since sp1 is like 83 megs and ie 5.5 is like 7 megs that is about 90 megs too much for my modem. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Dual Boot Windows 2000 Pro / Windows ME Beta 3 PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive

you say that the mem dumps happen only when you are on the net perhaps you could infrom us as to what browser/version you run how you connect to the net and what other apps you run when you surf that might help narrow down the prob.

I would say w2k pro it has alot of features for laptops like hibernation although winme has this opp aswell and if you are more concerned with speed than reliability than go with win me. If you want an endless pain in the ass choose win 98. Win me is a great OS and will run much better on 64 megs of ram than w2k. So the choice is speed or reliability. Personally in that situation i would put on win2k since my only use for win me is the extra fps in quake 3. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Dual Boot Windows 2000 Pro / Windows ME Beta 3 PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive

I used IE 5.5 beta and i am now using final and i have found that they are both fasrer than 5.01 and i like the print preview feature.

1. Yes 2. NO 3. yes you can leave win2k no repair is needed windows me is leaps and bounds ahaed of 98 and is not just win98 3rd edition. On my system windows me beta 3 is every bit as stable and reliable as win2k and the same goes for beta 2 and since i'm running build 2491 and the gold version is build 3001 or something im sure they have made it much better since the build i have. ------------------ My System Dell Demension XPS T500 Dual Boot Windows 2000 Pro / Windows ME Beta 3 PIII @ 500 Mhz (with after market heatsink and dual fan) 128 Megs PC133 Ram TNT2 Ultra Graphics Card (with the core and memory overclocked by 20 Mhz and dual voodoo coolers) 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Card 3Com 56k Modem 12.6 Gig IBM HD 40X CD Rom Drive 100 Mb Zip Drive [This message has been edited by Four and Twenty (edited 07 July 2000).] [This message has been edited by Four and Twenty (edited 07 July 2000).]
