Anyone know how I'm supposed to flash my Abit BP6 BIOS without a floppy drive or DOS installed? I hope someone can figure this one out
-
Greggy, I’m running Win2K using a NTFS partition. I will ask one of my friends if they have an extra floppy drive so I don’t have to install DOS or Win 98 just to flash my BIOS. Damien, I totally agree with you. Microsoft should have included a built-in version of DOS 6.22 (REAL DOS MODE), so I could easily flash my BIOS anytime and play those old DOS games again. I kind of miss the world of DOOM & DUKE3D, don’t you? CM, Sound like a nice feature, but I have no floppy drive yet

Unreal + 5.13 Drivers = Better Performance in GL. I just installed Unreal and updated it to version 2.25f. As soon as I configured Unreal for GL and set the resolution at 800x600, the game play is very smooth, and entering different levels or turning corners did not show as much slowdown as before. The game is finally playable by my requirements. Here are my computer specs: Win2K Pro OS Abit BP6 dual 366a CPU’s overclocked to 550 CL Blaster AGP TNT 256MB System Ram MX300 Sound Card 6.4GB HD UDMA 33 - 9.5Seek I don’t know how to run a time demo in Unreal to do further testing to get the game running at max performance. Can someone please tell me how?

There are some other features you might want to check out as well. Right-click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery.

Microsoft Digital Sound System 80 USB (Software in Win2k???)
Vechlor replied to mpt45's topic in Hardware
Hello. I don't think Microsoft will ever release any new software for the DSS80 speakers since they are not manufacturing them anymore. Ever since Windows 2K Pro RC3 came out, I decided to leave the 2D world to join the 3D world of sound by buying a MX300 sound card off Ebay brand new for less than $50. The sound quality is just about the same using the speakers with the sound card plus you won't believe how many sound effect channels you aren’t getting with USB. If you buy the MX300 from Diamond and install the latest Aureal drivers, the control panel has a tab called speakers, and there you can select from 3 different speakers for EQ, including EQ for DSS80. Plus it has about 10 more EQ bands and each speaker can be set up with its own set of bands. I hope this helps you choose what you want to do with your speakers. -
You can grab it here: ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw/pub/bios/bp6/bp6qq.exe

USB and MPS 1.4 never worked until I flashed to the new QQ final. I'm using ACPI Multiprocessor PC and USB works great now!

I play Half-Life using A3D with Aureal’s beta drivers - Version 5.10.2500, Build 49 in Windows 2K PRO. FYI – You can’t just install the drivers by clicking on the executable, you have to take some preparation steps for them to work right. Go to this link (http://downloads.aureal.com/pub/Public/Drivers/Vortex/WDM_INSTALL.doc) to read (carefully) how to install the beta drivers. Also, I noticed the Vortex Control Panel under Start > Settings > Control Panel > Aureal Vortex Audio is the wrong .CPL file that is not associated with the Aureal programs. To access full control of the control panel programs such as Graphic Equalizer, Midi, A3D Settings, Digital Out / EQ etc. Go to C:\WINNT\AU30CPL.EXE and from there you can access all the options which all work great! Note: The Vortex Control Panel does not automatically load when windows starts or add the tray icon. I created a shortcut of the AU30CPL.EXE program and placed it in the Start > Programs > Startup directory, but you will have to uncheck and check the “Show tray control on the taskbar” box for it to display the icon correctly. Good Luck! [This message has been edited by Vechlor (edited 07 April 2000).]

To get USB working, I changed MPS 1.4 in the BIOS to 1.1 (when I had MPS Multiprocessors device driver installed), and to get ACPI working in WIN2K, disable power management & enable ACPI under the power options in the BIOS, you also need to use the repair option (by using a boot disk, going into DOS and accessing the D:\I386\WINNT.EXE, select R to repair). I had to do this just to get into WIN2K or I would get this dumb blue screen telling me to uninstall any new hardware or software bla bla bla. After I did the repair, my registry seemed to be intact and my desktop settings and every thing were just how I left them. I haven’t tried changing MPS 1.4 to 1.1 yet, and USB still doesn’t work even with this QQ BIOS. BTW: What is so different between MPS and ACPI??? Performance? Power Management? Both?

Please, can someone tell me how to delete these annoying directories located in the Program Files directory. BTW: I was able to delete them in DOS mode with a startup disk, but now they are back with no files in side them and Outlook 2K says "Outlook requires MS Outlook Express 4.01 or greater." - "You can install Outlook Express 5.0 by running IESetup.EXE from the Internet Explorer folder where you installed Outlook, or download it from the Internet Explorer site on the MS Web." WHAT?, EH?, WHY?... When I click OK after that dumb message, Outlook 2000 works great! How do I solve this problem?
