  1. Why did you have an OpenGL driver in your game folders? I remember doing that for Voodoo and Voodoo2 cards because they were add-in units, but I haven't had the need to do that since then. As a matter of fact, you may notice an improvement in gaming performance if you take them out, and use the default system OpenGL file. ------------------ Regards, clutch

  3. I don't know how many of you are into FrontPage, but the new server extensions are out. Here is a copy of an email I got from www.iisanswers.com IIS Answers Newsletter Exclusive --------------------------------- This is the first public announcement outside of Microsoft that: The FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 update is now available at ftp://microsoft.com/products/frontpage/fpse02_x86.exe This has not yet appeared on the Microsoft Website, but will in the next day or so. That's all for now! -brett hill If that's your bag, have at it. ------------------ Regards, clutch

New FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions are out

Weird, the top link seems to work fine for me. As for the differences, I don't know. I try to stay away from using Frontpage publishing features, but I figured that some peeps here might use it. ------------------ Regards, clutch

    Service Packs

While I see the advantage of copying the files from a service pack in NT over into the NT CD image, I have to wonder about how it would work with a fresh install off of the new image. Does it report to be SPx? Does it retain all of the functionality of installing the service pack? It seems that part of the service pack installation process includes modifying registry keys, and I can't see this being done by the homemade slipstream being mentioned here. In addition, I didn't see anything about creating a CD image for fresh installations on the link listed, and every other FAQ and article I have seen point to it not being feasible in NT. Have you done this? Does everything perform the same as a fresh install with the SP applied afterward? ------------------ Regards, clutch

Computer Start Up Error, Please Help

I would imagine that you could get in, if that was the key that let you in to begin with. I would just hit it repeatedly during initial boot. ------------------ Regards, clutch

Computer Start Up Error, Please Help

Well, worse comes to worse you could just reset the BIOS. There may be a jumper to reset it, or you could just take out the battery for a minute or so. ------------------ Regards, clutch

Computer Start Up Error, Please Help

Set them back the way they were, and then change them one at a time. However, those changes will probably not give you much of a performance change anyway. Now, as far as why you don't hear the beeping at restart; this is because on a warm boot (restart) your system skips parts of the POST (Power On Self Test) process, and thus isn't having issues with these settings. One (or more) of those changes is/are upsetting the video card and/or motherboard. I would just set them back the way they were and not worry about it. ------------------ Regards, clutch

Can't boot to an NT based OS

Did you, by chance, install the new motherboard *after* the OSs were installed onto the HD (basically, just upgraded the motherboard in the system)? If so, you probably don't have the same IDE controller as the last motherboard, and therefore each of the NT-based systems don't know what to do when it's time to mount the volumes. When you do a major changeover like that, it is always best to do a fresh install. To get back into the OS installs, swap the motherboard back and you should be fine. Oh, and as to why you can get into WinME, it was probably using a generic driver that is compatible with the IDE controllers of both motherboards. ------------------ Regards, clutch

    Locking your workstation.

It never occurred to me that this was *not* normal function. The "switch user" function sounds like more of a consumer/domestic feature rather than an enterprise function. Bladerunner, how is the IIS portion of XP server? Does FTP have any new features? I am hoping to get the server beta, but I think our account will only get it come RC time. ------------------ Regards, clutch

    Nero stopped working...#%¤½*

I would lean to that, but I don't know. I have used Nero on a few CD-RW/motherboard combinations, but I have only used Intel chipsets with them. I have been using 1429 recently, but that system only has a DVD-ROM and a WD 40GB ATA-100 drive. ------------------ Regards, clutch

    Locking your workstation.

Here is a screen cap of the lock prompt. I did it through terminal server, then SMS Remote control but I am at work, so sue me. http://www.driventechnologies.com/bookmarks/whistler_c-a-d_screencap.jpg There was nothing special done, like I said in my previous posts. ------------------ Regards, clutch

    Locking your workstation.

This is by default. In addition, I don't see this "switch user" function that others have mentioned either. The system seems fully integrated into my AD (like Win2K does) and shows very little seperate administration for its own domain. ------------------ Regards, clutch

OfficeXP Final vs Office XP Enterprise

AccessXP (2002, whatever) was pretty screwy on my main PC at home. I couldn't create new tables, forms, or queries in existing databases. I tried repairing it, reinstalling it, removing then reinstalling, then finally went back to Office 2000. Access worked again, but all the help files were trashed and some other quirks came to surface. I formatted and reinstalled Win2K and then OfficeXP, and still had the same problems. However, I upgraded that machine to WinXP, and all the problems went away. ------------------ Regards, clutch
