Need information on building and running an Email Server

MDaemon will work great if you want to host directly in addition to the queue hosting that Andy mentions (it's not a bad app, but the argosoft one is free so that's worth a look too). Since you're not needing to share calendaring or any other info, just go with a cheaper alternative like MDaemon. Also, make sure that not only mail.yourdomain.com is setup as an MX record, but as an A record as well for your mail server. Some DNS configs/email servers are setup incorrectly and go for the A record first. This way, you have both bases covered.

Need information on building and running an Email Server

What else do you want it to do besides handle email? If that's all you are looking for, then Exchange/Notes Server is complete overkill. You could use something like MDaemon from Deerfield or the app from ArgoSoft that CyberGenX pointed out earlier today. If you want a full on collaboration application, then state what you want it to do.

My comma separated text data is corrupted !

I don't know, but it could be a good place to start. It could be failing harddrives as well, or flaky RAM. Do these issues only come up with these files, or do you have other problems? Do you only have problems with a certain drive set, or a certain partition on that drive set?
  4. DS is a wind bag, but I have to agree with him on ATi. I was a long time user of various products, and I was hoping they would put together a good driver team that would be similar to what nVidia has. Maybe that's asking too much...

Running NTFS? What version of RAID are you using? What kind of controller? Do you have the newest drivers for the controller? Does this only happen to the really large files?

You wouldn't by chance have PCAnywhere on it, would you?
  7. Which KVM is it? I have a couple of the USB/PS2 versions which are nice, but sometimes don't like certain systems. I have to use PS/2 cables for my mouse and keyboard instead of USB on my main workstation, whereas my older Dell box (running RH 7.3) can use the single USB cable. Kind of a bummer...

    A warning to all

A poor ground, but on my home APC unit I have a red LED on the power connector to indicate if there is a poor ground or not. Also, an undersized/overloaded circuit could be causing you power dips and making the UPS go into protection mode (would be accompanied by a lot of relay clicking from the unit). You could check to see how many rooms run off the same circuit, and evaluate the need to redo the existing breaker panel and beef up the juice to that one room.

Exchange...where is it? Need to setup Intranet mail.

All IIS installations have the SMTP service available, but I think he's looking for something that his clients can connect to for email, email storage, calendaring, and collaboration. The SMTP service does not host these functions on its own.

If you go into the setup on the AvantGo page, you can add a channel and then tune the depth of links that are loaded. You can also filter images from what I remember (I haven't used it in a while).

    NTCompatible & AvantGo/PPC.

Well, it should be "compatible" already, but what exactly are you looking for? The only thing I would say to help AvantGo users would be to have a simple text page with todays highlights and then a link to the forums on it.

Question about swap files and XP

With 512MB of RAM, you might as well make a small fixed-size swapfile. I use a GB of RAM on my dev boxes and try to pitch the swapfile altogether. Also, if you have access to the separate controller and drive then that might be a good idea. But, if you have to spend a fair amount of money on then I probably wouldn't bother as the performance increase you would see might be negligible.

They seem to have no direction anymore, which sounds a lot like the rest of the Linux community (as far as distros go). http://www.osopinion.com/perl/story/19200.html

WinRAR 3. It's very fast to compress, extract, and browse files with.
  18. Yeah, those were it. I was running a single 100GB WD with 8MB cache before on WinXP. Also, my own config had the simple console (no 3D head and ammo models) and no gibs shown (not to mention some other stuff) which might be why I got the higher score. I have some more fiddling to do. Also, just now I ran a quick timedemo while running SQL Server, Outlook, Newsbin Pro (while it's downloading), 3 sessions of IE (one downloading the Analysis Services SP for SQL 2K), and Trillian and I still get 185fps in 1024x768@32 bit with everything maxed. Not too shabby.
  19. OK, fresh install of .NET server and Q3A with the 40.xx dets, I get 160fps with 8x aniso and 200fps without aniso. Question about swap files and XP

Look, I did answer them. Working with you on this has been a very trying process. If for some reason you *STILL* insist that I am somehow avoiding your questions, then use the following for an answer: GREEN That's right. So, in reference to both of your questions, my new answer is GREEN. GREEN is the way that SQL server does everything, and we have been keeping it a secret for a very long time. However, I am giving this information out from our secret lab in a trailer park in South Carolina (that doubles as a meth lab, you might have seen me on "COPS" a few times drunk and with my shirt off, but if you can't remember here's my picture): That's me going over the wrap up code with Bill G. via a secure line. Oh sure, it *looks* like I'm just taking a dump outside of our "trailer", but that toilet is just a cover for our air supply to the lab (this was a practical joke, the programmers didn't think it was so funny). So there you have it, and remember to think GREEN.

    Lindows will do what?

Quote: Quote: What things don't work, and what distros are you addressing? From the geeks that I know who use Linux they state that it's a very straight forward process and several of them don't know C at all. I see alot of crabbing about it online is all... & this is what I have read about it. Stuff about the installations not working & also porting it over is a bummer... I don't mess with it myself, only what I have seen over time as one of the "complaints" about it. Do I have a direct quote of it, not offhand... sorry! Wish I did... I'd put it up for you to look at. It's what I recall hearing/reading online though, & that it is complex! * APK People complain about things not working all the time, only to find out that if they would have read the documentation that it will work as it should. I don't put much merit into general complaints unless there is good information to back it up.

    Lindows will do what?

What things don't work, and what distros are you addressing? From the geeks that I know who use Linux they state that it's a very straight forward process and several of them don't know C at all.
