I got my new board in and its been up and running for 2 days now with no crashes. Its about 20 percent faster in most games and a lot faster copying files. IF your gonna get an AMD the ABIT KR7A is the way to go. A note on stability: If you truly know what you are doing you can make any system stable, almost hehe. I'd have to say tho that both the AMD DDR boards I have used have been ultra stable, moreso then my p3 at work at least. And Dell doesnt use AMD cause he gets too great a pricing from INTEL, he doesnt need to go to AMD. That, like most things, may change. Epecially if there are more shortages of parts in the future.

Got my new board in, cant wait to get home and try it /woohoo

Mostly just dual CPU boards. I've seen soem from ASUS and TYAN for the AMD and INTEL platforms

Sorry M4 I've been there and it isnt very pleasent. /tips 40 oz

I still cannot decide which company is more evil, AOL or Rambus? they both continue to amaze me
-
Go with the Athlon. Costs less and you get a lot more if your willing to work with it. Hopefully my board will arrive safely tommorow (UPS scares me sometimes) and I'll post results here.

I agree. With Memory prices aobut the same, tho Intel CPU's are a bit more, I go with the ddr chipset for either platform. Screw Rambus they suck. I might go to the darkside with INtel but never with Rambus, even Intel realized thier mistakes.

I have a compaq, that's why I said DELL hehe. I like my laptop but they really don't make compaq's for the power user like they do on the Dell's -

Get the DEll. Our company just bought like 30 of these and they rule. They are hands down the best laptop out there -
You don't like RTCW? I thought the game was gonna suck but it is actaully very good
-
Yeah especially in Office and like mp3 programs. Anything that requires that ram be accessed frequently you see DDR perform well. Anything that requires larger files like DIVX or something sometimes the RDRAM does better
-
Well I finally Got RTCW and it's pretty damn cool. I was pleasantly surprised by the gamepla and the graphics, IT's definately up there in the top 5 or so. On a second note I finally got GTA3 and all I can say is the PC version needs to come out. THe pS2 just cannot do a game justice.

I did order an ABIT Kr7A w/raid today, so I'll let you know how good a board that is.

You'll find no one here hates INtel more then I do. But you know what, I was like inches away from buying a P4 last night. If it wan't for the fact that I spent 700 bones on an IPAQ with accessories and my wife would have killed me, I woulda bought a DDR board and a P4. I too am tired of crashes and like nothing more then to have my computer work when I come home. I dont get paid to work on my own PC so I want it stable. But on the other hand, it has been stable, I was just angry it crashed on RTCW and I had to redo a level. I had been playing like 7 hours straight and hadnt rebooted in like 4 days, and was like only the 3rd crash since I installed XP. If you want great stability go with INTEL. THo I do think you can find stability on any AMD platform providing your willling to work with it at first. And having money to buy stuff helps, if your on a budget AMD is the way to go, but if you like a lot of us who now have good jobs and can afford more things then buy what you want, that is gonna make you happy.

The patch does help , i had some errors at first as well then the patch fixed the ones I had
-
If you look at the last 20 years the companies who invent stuff arent as wealthy as the comapies who perfect stuff. Microsfot is good at doiung that. They work at providing a complete package instead of having an OS and 100 programs to do what you need to do, you just have 1 OS with most of that built in. Its what consumers want, and theyll provide it. Its all about content

I can really tell the difference in the WMA vs the MP3. When i rip cd's to mp3 they just dont sound as good. I don't have to worry about hard drive space either, but I do want the best quality and I beleive WMA is the future

Do you find MS Servers to be inherently unstable?
sapiens74 replied to clutch's topic in Slack Space
Also has to do with the fact that Linux terrible for playing games (or being a workstation IMO). I remeber when APple users were saying how much more stable they were, then when apple started using more hardware and thier OS got more bloated you began to see it has the same problems as Windows based PC's. You see the same thing with Linux when trying to do anything like that too. Hell it's way more bloated then Windows, unless you gut it. -
Not sure. I thought EZ CD Creator 5 Deluxe or platinum did, but not sure since I use the basic version, and don't burn back to cd's
-
I had about 14 gb of mp3's then decided to do my complete cd collection with WMA. IT sounds so much better an takes up less space, and is so easy to use with Media player. It's hands down better then mp3

Norton Internet Security 2002 is the best hands down.

i agree the less the better. I had an old boss that liked to install Direct x 8 on the server. What the hell for ? I asked -

Well said dude. You are completely right . You know what really gets me piping mad is that if MS servers were run, like I run them, they wouldnt crash at all. People are lazy and companies are too cheap to either hire techs that know thier stuff, or train those who do not. The server is a stable as the admin. I guarantee you I can have an MS server up longer then your linux server, providing they are doing the same thing. You cannot blame MS for people not knowing how to do thier jobs -
Well I finally rented Metal Gear SOlid 2 this weekend. It shouldn't even be on the list

No joke and require less study time to use it.
