No brainer here. AMD is faster cheaper and the motherboards are far better then those of the P3 or P4. Plus you can OC the T-birds and Duron's with the multiplier and the FSB unlike P3 or P4 Just my 2 Cents
-
Make sure you have auto insert notification off. Try running Duron at regular speed if that doesnt work, might be getting hot or something Just my 2 Cents

After being so aggravated at Office XP for not allowing my Hollywood Magic to run unless shutting down ctfmon.exe I finally figured out how to rid myself of the problem 1. First install the newest drivers and software from Sigma 2. Make sure it all works, play your fav **** dvd 3. Install Office XP with the Alternate Input option unchecked 4. Its gonna put the Text Settings and Speech icons in the Control Panel after the Installation so remove them with Tweak UI 5. Then delete CTFMON.EXE from your \WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder Now my freaking remote works without me turning the monitor on. Just my 2 CENTS

Cant be its only installed into the \winnt\system32 dir with a clean install of Office XP Did a fresh install yesterday and monitored the files with every install Office XP provides the file. Right click and go to Propeties tells you Just my 2 cents:

The last time I heard that kinda Anti-Microsoft fanatasim was from an old lady I sold a G3 to. So I am gonna tell you what I told her BUY A FREAKING MAC. You've earned it -
You know the Radeon Would be a nice Win2k card but it performs a lot worse then if used under Win98 or ME. My Geforce2 actually runs faster in 2000. Just my 2 cents

OK I'm at the end of my rope I installed the latest Beta 2 of Whistler and everything works fine except my DSL modem. The modem is Korean (Korean Telecom Service) and all I know is that the Chipset is made by Alcatel. Everytime I try to Dial up using PPoA mode it gives me the now infamous IRQ_Not_less_or_Equal thing. I have tried to disable ACPI in bios, upgrading from a working ME and 2000, and trying every slot on my MOBO with no other cards in and everything disabled. Tried 3 different drivers as well. Works like a champ in Win2000 tho. If anyone knows how to work with DSL I'd Appreciate it SYSTEM INFO 1.1 GHZ THunderbird ASUS A7V Bios Rev 1007 Sound Blaster Live Value ELsa Gladiac GTS2 Hollywood Magic DVD Card

In regards to the Linux show of support, with all due respect I cannot do half the things I want, and have to do, running Linux. If it was honestly a viable alternative I would have considered it before. Linux is too complicated and to be quite honest the Versions too fragmented to even consider. Sure a Linux guru can have a nice box running, But it cannot compete even remotely for what I need from my machine. Microsoft makes good products, albeit they are way too aggresive, in their business paractices. You know Abobe charges damn near 1k for their Photoshop series of APPS, and I have seen many other Professional Apps run that high or higher. 260 Bucks for an OS which runs the Machine is not a lot. But you cannot honestly say that Linux is in the same market. Yeah its free, thats the problem, too many versions and they are all named like 2.04123 and stuff like that. Intel learned a while bck to start naming thier products with a little more catchy names, cause not everyone is a techie. Microsoft has given windows users what we've alwyas wanted ,in XP, ease of use for the non-tech person and Complete control for the ADMIN in us all. ANd I believe at a small cost considering. Linux gives only the latter. I have a little analogy, hopefully someone will understand where I'm coming from. Had this friend in High School that was a real metal head. Got me into Metallica. WHen everyone else started liking them too, he stopped. I have this theory that when people are into something that no one else likes it gives them a feeling of being unique. All my old tech friends from DOS days are into Linux now, You wanna know why, is it because Linux is superior, of Course not. Its because when Windows 95 came out it let us non command prompt guys catch up and in some ways surpass them. Now everybody and thier brother is a technician (not that I condone that hehe) Upgrades and stuff can be done by anyone just a out reading the instructions. Hell i talked my mom into a hard drive installtion over the Phone. SHe opened the box and fixed it and it actually worked. Anyway my point being is that Linux I feel lets techs feel that they know something the rest of the world doesnt. It was never made for the workstation environment, at least not what I consider one anyway. And i feel that our hatred for Microsoft has given us the hope that Linux is destined to take over windows spot as the next OS of choice. Hey if i had to learn it I would, I gotta make a living too, but having a choice, Ill take Microsoft solution for now. Just my 2 cents (well maybe more than too but whos counting ) -

With all the money they spend on R&D especially on Xp 260 bucks isnt alot considering. I spend that 2 times a year on CPU's and Video Cards, and Ram. Thats over 1k just for upgrades I don't need. Most people get the Upgrade or get it with their new system. Besides, Win2k is only $150 or so for oem, with the purchase of a hard drive or motherboard. Just pick up an oem copy next time you upgrade. The only version thats 260 is the Full retail, which the people that need to buy it can afford it Just my 2 cents -
I'm referring to My own experience, had trouble with Direct 3d Apps crashing in 2000 even with the DX8 drivers. IN WinME or 98 I'd say Radeon for sure, it does look a hella lot sharper than my Geforce, but on an INTEL PLatform with W2K I'd go NVIDIA, doens't get more stable than that. Just my 2 cents Laterz
-
Hey if I had my choice get a Geforce2 Most problems with it are VIA based anyway which your running an INTEL chip. The Radeon Does have Win2000 issues, ATI has poor driver record and at least with a NVIDIA chip you'll find a set of drivers that work Just my 2 Cents Laterz

You know If I didnt have a card at all and was building a new system a GF3 would be an option, but I got a GF2 and 600 bones is too much to get nominal FPS in my games that already run well. For that money I'd buy a better CPU or maybe a 15k rpm SCSI drive. Just my 2 cents

I have roadrunner and it uses DHCP so you need to plug the Cable Modem Into Uplink to Hub and your Computers into Hub as well.. Just set both Machines to use DHCP unless roadrunner tells you different....then they will determine IP address on boot....should be ***igned by Modem ..and usually is static tho ***iged dynamically
-
Ati makes a DDR version of the Radeon BTW
-
As biased as I am..GO Intel... You have to go by your standards then INTEL is really only way to go...Even tho i have a Thunderbird and it kicks ass in Win2000...you'll have less problems going P3..now if your a pretty good system builder and don't mind flashing a few bios's and testing drivers out then bang for your buck go with AMD. Tho INtel is safer bet for stability with Win200
-
I have tried every combination of drivers and settings but when playing EQ with DirectX 8 installed I get dark spots where the mouse is moving. Currently using a Geforce 2 DirectX 8 final and Nvidia ref drivers 6.47 Btw it works fine with WinME with same drivers, settings and DirectX 8
-
You should be able to jack it higher cause it is essentialy a P3..so I'd try combinations of Voltage and FSB ..should get at least 800 to 900 out of it

Win2k Pro and Games: Still lower performance than win9x?
sapiens74 replied to pr-man's topic in Games
Well i have a mixed review.. With Quake 3 and any Open GL game WIN2000 rips both WinME and 98 using the same revision reference drivers.. But weh i install direct x 8 WIn 2000 rips my EQ up so I just use WinME to play direct 3d..least for now -
you know i just got done making that post..so i turned the tele on and first thing i see is that really Gay P3 commercial...sorry people but that is pretty damn annoying..I was trying to complement INTEL in my twisted way hoping they will step up to the plate and be champions like i know they are...and i see that commercial..well it was funny ...at least to me anyhow

I agree but i think 3dfx has put out so many good products and if it werent for them Nvidia wouldnt be here today.. I don't wish them to put out better chips than Nvidia..but at least some competition...I remember that AMD was a joke when comparing it with INTEL chips..but now they are spoken in the same sentence..as equals..I want that of 3dfx .. I think competition is good..good for business and the industry as a whole..we need more innnovators...not monopoloy's..I hope they get their act together and make the best chipsets they can make..they have just lost thier way..Like Intel..doesnt mean they wont come back and take the industry by storm...I hope for the industry they stay in the battle and fight...maybe one day to be on top again..or at least make a contest of it
-
I meant they wont be manufacturing thier boards....going back to what they used to do ...but i was a bit confused.... other sites have posted that they had quit the video business outright..
