Forgot my specs: 733 Coppermine ASUS P3B-F 256 PC133 GeForce DDR (currently w/5.16) SBLive! (w/latest Liveware Win2k)

Man, I just don't understand any of you people's setup. I've never received slow downs, blank screens, reboots, or lock-ups from going back and forth between the 5.xx drivers. Are you guys using Intel chipsets?
-
I have the Prophet and it kicks some MAJOR a** in Win2K with 5.14 reference drivers (leaked). I'm sure the Prophet II is of the same high quality. Wait for the reviews. Cheers

A couple: 3Com 56K external (non-USB) 3Com Internet Gaming Modem (PCI, and a hardware modem! Only pci modem that I know of that is ALL hardware, no winmodem/software modem here!) 3Com V.Everything Courier modem. Those are the best ones I know of. Some of the Diamond modems might be worth a look at too.

I read alot of posts about people emailing (calling) tech support for help with their games. I have one thing to say about that: KEEP IT UP!! Bug the HELL out 'em. We, the consumer, dictate this industry. Not them. They are in service to us! Everybody should know by now, Windows 2000 is much better than Windows 98 for gaming (those of you that are still having problems, I'm sorry). The only game I can't play is AVP (who knows maybe in the future I can) because of the sticky keys. I can hardly play that game anyways cuz it scares the hell out of me! I'm willing to bet when these gaming companies get so much damn email about Windows 2000, they'll be forced to support it. And they should! If everybody coded as well as ID did with their Quake series (all their games work under Win2k, same for the Unreal folks), we wouldn't have any problems.

I hope you feel stupid for posting a childish remark like that! F***IN Genius!!

DOS, If you could, install the drivers the way I did Hollywood Plus, NT4 update, and then creative software. I remember from reading some of your posts that you install it differently (and who knows, your way might be better) by installing Hollywood plus beta driver, laxity patch?, and then the Real Staion software. But try it my way to keep things consistent, maybe we can nail down what the problem is. Please leave your system specs too. Thanks for the help. -

Hey DOS, like I said in my previous post. The thing works. The BSOD is only if you have PnP in the BIOS enabled (this may not be the case for ALL motherboards). If you don't believe that this is a problem then go to www.deja.com and type in dxr3 win2k and starting reading tons of people who get BSOD and not disabling PnP in the bios. That's how I came to this conclusion about the BSOD. That's NOT a problem. The D3D performance is unacceptable for "me." Maybe not to anyone else. I and others on various message boards who have noticed the performance hit, and I'm pretty confident it is the beta driver for 2000. There is no IRQ conflict. The dxr3 WAS using solely using IRQ10. Cheers. -
Off topic but someone please help My friend and I have spent 4 days trying to get his DXR3 card working under Windows 98SE (I know this seems ridiculous.) This is hardware config: Coppermine 800EB Asus P3B-F 128 PC133 Ram Geforce 256 DDR Promise ATA66 Controller card When we tried playing a movie with the dxr3 card it gives us a BSOD (fatal exception in a virtual device driver ~SMART??? and VFAT). We tried different PCI slots for each piece of hardware. We didn't even attempt taking off the Promise card, until we started to give up. After taking off the Promise ATA 66 controller and putting all disks on the onboard IDE controller (motherboard), it WORKED flawlessly. So, then we attempted to put the Promise card back in and put the Main Hard drive and DVD drive on the Promise card. This was unsuccessful; same result, BSOD! I've never had this much trouble with hardware!! And I have the Dxr3 working great on my similar config (minus the Promise ATA66 controler card!) Does anybody have ANY idea why the Promise ATA66 controller card would cause this conflict with the dxr3 card???
-
Fixed it! Got an updated driver for the Promise card. The updated version is 1.43. The original was 1.42. I don't even know if 1.43 is the latest version, but it fixed it none the less. If anyone had/has the same problem, I hope this can be of some reference. Cheers.

People, THE issue is framerate in D3D. Go compare your framerate (actual numbers, don't guess!) Other than that the everything works great. But I'm greedy I can't go from 70 frames/sec in UT to 35 frames/sec. Once you play it like that, the latter is unacceptable. I'm sorry. There is NO issues with PCI slots or pass-through cable, the card WORKS. I did this test and wrote this post because I KNEW some of you were having some issues with D3D games with your DXR3 card installed (and I wanted to find out for myself if it was valid). And the purpose of this analysis is just to wait for a driver from creative labs if you are used to having the high frame rates on high end machines such as mine. -

Erros in last post. Thanks for the post! I have a TNT2 Ultra card also, so I'll have to look into it. Remember it's only D3d games we are interested in. So throw out Half-Life (I know it has D3D, but who plays it in D3D??), Quake III, SOF. Also when I run UT I get an "acceptable" framerate, but it's about half of what I usually get depending on the map. So if I get around 70 frames/sec on a map w/out the dxr3 drivers installed, I'll get about 30-35 frames/sec in that same error. So it's really hard to compare the TNT2 Ultra and the GeForce in this sense. I'll just have to try out the TNT2 to verify for the rest of the users (I don't doubt that your point is valid indeed). -

So throw out Half-Life (I know it has D3D, but who plays it in D3D??), Quake III, SOF. Could be it has something to do with the GeForce. As you might know, the 3.x and 5.x drivers do NOTHING for the TNT2 Ultra except update the version. All the enhancements are for the Geforce. So, I'll try out the TNT's and see what happens. -
Well man, you are the first person I've heard of having no sticky key problems in Aliens vs Predator (AVP). That's the ONLY game in Win2k I can't play. (IT runs great! But the sticky keys are just too annoying.) I haven't tried the Gold version; I wonder if that would cure it. BULL****- I made an EXACT duplicate of my retail SOF using Nero by overburning. I don't need a hacked .exe or a patch to remove the CD. The original does NOT use safedisc. Where the hell are you coming from on that?? Could there be some that have Safedisc and some are oversized discs?? I highly doubt it.
-
first off - what did you use to burn the cd? The original SOF cd reports to windows that it is >650 meg. You needed to use something like Nero to burn it, because it can burn oversize cd's (and you would have a duplicate copy of the original), then you won't need any kind of crack. It'll be the same as the original.
-
Which games? I have the Hollywood + beta 1 driver installed for my dxr3. I have a GeForce DDR and I play UT no problem in D3D.
-
When you say it is working fine, are you also saying you don't have "sticky" key problems in AVP Gold? I don't have the "Gold" addition but I have "sticky" keys in AVP original.

Sticky Mouse Buttons and Keys (yeah im sick of it too)

By all means then, shed some light on this subject for us. What kind of system? What is your opinion? I have AVP and it has sticky keys in 2000. I have no sticky keys in UT, Quake 3, Halflife, SOF, Quake II, Quake I, Jedi Knight, among others. Don't own Rogue Spear though. My system specs: Coppermine 733 Asus P3B-f Pc133 256 meg SBlive! ledzeppel replied to Coroner's topic in Games
I agree. I believe it is the coding in the game, and not the OS. If it was the OS, wouldn't ALL the games have sticky keys then? Maybe the games will get updated for 2000, maybe not. who knows. -
Volitaire, It may be harder to write code for the HAL, but I believe the benefits are reaped. I would like to think that ME will be the last 9x kernel. I'm pretty much sick of it.
