my father in a moment of stupidity decided to reinstall win2k, without knowing what he was doing, and thus converted the c drive to ntfs! from then on win98 obviously would not work... anyhow i then tried to install win98 again by booting into dos with a boot disk but errors started occurring since i could not get onto the c drive and after rebooting again i was just left with a flashing _ in the top left of the screen. so after this i eventually worked out to run fdisk and select the c drive as the primary partition. things worked and i can now load up win2k again! however i am left with an f drive of 0 size in my computer - how can i remove this? secondly since i have win98 installed on a ntfs file system it obviously does not work, so could someone tell me how i can safely delete it? (i presume editing the boot.ini file and deleting the windows dir would do the trick- remember i cant load win98) finally is there a way without converting my c drive to fat32 of installing win98 onto another partition? thanks for the help, CyRUS64

its weird cuz under computer management in win2k, under disk management i get just the c drive, but under the logical drives menu i get the zero size f partition as well. is there any simpler method of removing it? will partition magic do the trick, cuz i cant be bother to install linux! anyway thanks for the help guys, CyRUS64

after i installed detonator 2 drivers, wintv would constantly crash - and when it didnt (and in earlier driver versions) there a was a thud noise whenever i changed channel. all of these problems have been fixed by merely reinstalling the win2k application and drivers! CyRUS64 www.boob.co.uk

it is true that win2k comes with dx7 - the emulator in question is nemu (www.nemu.com) when used with the adaptoid (www.wishtechnologies.com). To fix this problem, and any others that people have with usb joysticks you can overwrite the dinput.dll file for dx7 with the one from dx8 - you can find these files at www.myzar.com Hope this helps, CyRUS64 www.boob.co.uk

firstly for the dx7 files for win2k go to www.win2kworld.com and you'll find it under the download section. (probably in one of the archives) secondly here are my specs: p2-450 tnt 256mb ram latest nvidia 5.22 drivers has anyone tried dx8 on similar specs, and would they advise me to install it? thanks a lot for the help guys, but dosfreak i have a couple more questions: 1)what files are for win98 only that are in the c:\ directory (id like to do a bit of spring-cleaning!) 2)the problem is is that i had tried disk management anyway but when i run that the f: drive does not exist! as i say it is of 0 size and cannot be opened in win2k. it does however appear in "my computer" and is used when i put a win98 boot disk into the drive on booting up. any more ideas- thx anyway, CyRUS64

cheers for the help but i think i miss explained the situation: basically i have a c: ntfs with my whole hard drive on - this has both win2k and win98 installed on it! how can i safely delete win98 without formatting the disk (i have ****loads of information that i can't backup ~12gb!) - can i just edit the boot.ini and delete c:\windows? secondly how can i delete the zero size drive which somehow was created - if i double click on it in win2k it says "F:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect" if i right click on it Type is local disk and file system is unknown, used + free space +capacity is zero! btw the first half is what i really need help with! thx in advance CyRUS64

I agree with the fact that nVidia should not have released these drivers as official as they are still very buggy. Secondly has anyone ever installed any drivers that have actually been microsoft certified? Anyway my problem is that having installed the Detonator 2 drivers (5.22), whenever i run hauppauge wintv, win2k drops to a blue screen of death, performs a memory dump, and takes about 3 days to reboot. Would the SOF fix do any use? (i dont really want to try it since others have had probs with it) thx in advance, CyRUS64 System specs are: P2-450 256mb ram TNT card CD-RW DVD drive 17gb hd 19in monitor printer/scanner/camera/video camera wintv primio w/latest drivers + software etc...

thanks a lot for the help guys, should i re-install wintv every time the drivers are upgraded, also are there any ms certified drivers at all?

i've also got a creative cdrw drive, and although nero works perfectly, prassi abcd (cdrw packet writing software) does not work. This was quite a cool prog cuz it was just drag'n'drop, like a disk etc... could someone direct me to some other software like this? Cheers, CyRUS64

Using Dx8 should improve performance on any system, regardless of driver support. however the performance increase will be greater when games are written to directly support it. CyRUS64 www.boob.co.uk

Patzdandy, wtf? Anyway im having problems with a controller called the Adaptoid (www.wishtech.com), which allows you to connect a N64 controller to the PC. The problem occurs when i run Nemu (www.nemu.com), a n64 emulator, and try to select the Adaptoid as my controller. I get a direct input error which was fixed in windows 98 after having installed dx7a. If anyone can get this to work, plz e-mail me at ihavesolvedyourproblemwithdx@boob.co.uk

I've tried e-mailing them. All they do is refer you to a different e-mail address, then you e-mail the new e-mail address, and they just refer you back to the first. In the end you just give up trying. $1000 isnt enough!

I apologise Eddie. Is there a planned release date for Directx8 beta, or does anyone know when microsoft inform successful beta registrants? anyhow for those of you who do care about getting joysticks to work on win2k using dx7a, i've downloaded the sdk and when i next reboot, perhaps the problem will have been fixed?
-
Thats quite impressive! Congratulations on being a beta tester and having a link to DX8 beta. You must be the only person in the world to have a copy since no beta version is yet available. :-) CYA later.

With the 5.13 drivers, every time I run hauppauge wintv on Windows 2000, the computer systematically reboots! I have reverted back to my old 3... version.

Has anyone managed to get the Prassi ABCD software to work in Windows 2000, which comes with Creative CDRW drives?
-
The reason EDDIE****FACE, is that we have joysticks that aren't working in windows 2000 since they require dx7a. When microsoft lie about the version they provide, and do not even provide an update, it is slightly pissing off. Therefore we are trying to work out a way of getting DX7a for Win2k. BTW does anyone have DX7a SDK, since MS says that that works on Win2k, so perhaps thats the answer?
-
No, I've spent the last day investigating this and trying to get DX7a to work, but the problem is that Win2k does not support VXD files, which DINPUT.DLL for Win98 uses. Therefore Microsoft have essentially ported DX7 to Win 2000 and have lied about the version they have released. I have e-mailed them for support, but they just keep referring me to another support site! If anyone has a link to a DirectX8 beta, please, please post it :-(
