I ran into a similar problem, only mine went to a black screen. I fixed it by up[censored] my video drivers, Voodoo 3 2000 PCI, downloaded the new drivers from the 3dfx site, all works great now. And it now supports the 3dfx mini GL driver, it only ran in D3D before, and it does suck.

I was using a burned copy, but then the company I work for had a raffle give away of your choice of any software from the Microsoft store, so I figured why not make it legal, I now own my copy. Not installed though. Still running the pirated copy, for evaluation purposes only.

Actually it is just a partioned drive, so swapping is out of the question, but I am planning on buying another drive. Now when I install that new drive, could I put 98 on that drive, w/ out causing any issues, and avoiding a complete format and reinstall. And if so what is the best way?

I think you are right, I have tried everything I can think of. I would like 2K to be installed on a NTFS drive, can 2K be on the secondary drive and still boot, or will I have to settle w/ a fat32 partition?

I have a voodoo3 2000 PCI card, it works great in Glide and Direct 3D, but all programs say that Open GL is not supported. As we all know Open GL is much faster than Direct 3D especially in HalfLife. Any ideas?

Thanks for the input, Easy CD creator 3.5 will not install on 2K though.

Just out of curiosit, how did you get the Velocit 4400 to work good, I have a Velocit 4400 and had to purchase a new video card due to the fact the card would refuse to use 3D acceleration, or the AGP support........ Win 2K would not let me install any new drivers, I also lost the TV out capabilities....

I to experience issues w/ halflife, the game runs great, but when I press excape to bring up the menu screen, a black screen pops up, if I press exscape again I am back in the game, fine and dandy, just makes saving and quitting the game a little difficult. Win2K AMD k6-3 450 128 MB RAM Voodoo 3 2000 16MB ram running Halflife in Direct 3D, says it does not support the opengl drivers I have.

Harder upgrade--3.1 to 95 or 98 to 2000?
Spastic Computer Guru replied to rbarbier's topic in Slack Space
I highly agree the only problem w/ the 2K upgrade was I had to replace my video card, but hey it was old and needed to be replaced any way. Bonus -
I am experiencing the same issue, sometimes it shuts down auto.....Other times I have to manually press the power button.

Which is fastest, NTFS or FAT32?
Spastic Computer Guru replied to Turbo Grunkamoj's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I would use NTFS, I installed 2K on my comp, 2 partions both fat32, one 98 the other 2K. It ran good for about 6 hours, when I rebooted it returned a non system disk error, then booted up in 98, which was on my second partition. 2K was no where to be found. After I did 1 NTFS partion for 2K and fat32 for 98, since I have not had a problem -
The best way to get assistance from MS tech support is to go to the MS Knowledge base, that is where they derive all there answers from any way.
