On NTFS I have never been in need of tools like scandisk or disk doctor. I only used Norton Speeddisk, worked fine on NTFS4. On NTFS5 only built-in optimizer works. May be in Norton Systemworks 2002? WinXP creates DOS diskettes with ease.

Serious Sam RRRULEZ! Didn't have that much fun since DOOM II! P.S. If only you guys knew how cheap it's in Russia... legal copy I mean...

I use Norton Systemworks 2001 Works fine to me! Speed Disk- best optimization prog. for W2K. AntiVirus- great as usual Sysinfo- cute, but has no speed tests like for W98 (pity) Norton WinDoctor- does something, but don't know what exactly- anyway- looking at its work makes me relax... ^-) Norton Disk Doctor- don't know- had no problems with NTFS5 ------------------ With all due respect, Quaestor!

Hi DosFreak! I experienced some time ago a "temporary slowdowns during playing games" (as I called them). The only solution I could find- was disabling ACPI for my videocard could have a personal IRQ. That bothered me so! STR-feature didn't work, but working Suspend-to-RAM allows me to TURN THE COMPUTER OFF- no fans working, no hdds working, nothing- computer off. The only exclusion- blinking LED on a computer. The only powered part of a computer was RAM- to store current position. This is NOT a hibernate feature of W2k- STR is a feature of mobo and supported in W98 too. But I solved this problem! I set in BIOS a feature- "PnP System Installed" to NO, and all my problems were gone! Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC in Device Manager didn't have an IRQ ***igned anymore and temporary slowdowns disappeared too! Whew! ------------------ With all due respect, Quaestor!

I wonder if there's a way to ***ign IRQs manually along with ACPI on? I gotta turn ACPI off because of games freezing with my GeForce(it shares IRQ with 6 other devices!), but switching power off with a button and not using Suspend-to-RAM feature with my super-duper system??? :-))) ------------------ With all due respect, Quaestor!

Intel Storage Driver you can get at www.intel.com under the section Support, where drivers'n'stuff is placed, or somewhere around it, can't exactly remember. ------------------ With all due respect, Quaestor!

RPC started for sure! I read lots of FAQ's saying RPC must be among few services, that must be running! Thank you anyway! ------------------

Brand, eh? Cusl2, Celeron-366... well, it doesn't matter now! But here's some good news! I solved this stupid problem- it was caused by absent latest TS patch! Now all works fine! With/w/o SP1 Thank you everybody! ------------------

I got on Win2K Pro Cel-366/128RAM/GF2MX Same PowerDVD- Smooth graphics, sound... Could it be drivers problem? Why not to try Intel Storage Drivers? They turn on DMA function, which when enabled saves a lot of processor resources. ------------------
