    Ultima Online freezing under win2k

hmmm.... i have all the newest drivers except for my tnt2u which i am afraid to install the newest ones because i have heard that the detonator 2 drivers suck worse than all the other 5.xx drivers.....

    final fantasy 7 and win2k...

does anybody know how i can get final fantasy 7 to not crash under win2k? at first i did a standard install and it crashed right after the intro movie. then i did a full install and it runs until the first battle with a couple of guards and it always crashes back to desktop with an error sometime during that scene... i realize that its incompatible on the list but i was just wondering if there is some patch for it, because i really want to play it and i dont really want to bother with a dual boot only for a couple of games.... thank you in advance...

    final fantasy 7 and win2k...

there were about 3 or 4 reasons i decided to reformat and dual boot. this was one of the biggest ones though since i never got to play through the game under 98. oh well. dual booting doesnt really seem to be a problem for me. everything still runs smoothly but 98 seems to take a lot longer to start up than it used to. i also have some com port problems and mouse problems in win2k but i'm sure it's unrelated...

    final fantasy 7 and win2k...

yea. it was great to hear there was a patch. it would have been nicer to know the location though... i finally just reformatted my computer and now i am dual booting 98 and 2k. i also had some other stuff that i couldnt run under win2k, but it would still be nice to have the patch so i wouldnt have to restart so much. same with janes stuff. i have usaf, and i heard there was a patch for it as well. no where to be found. anybody know of the secret location of these?

    Random restarts on a k6.

alright, my friend has a k6-2 500 on a gigabyte board(not sure exactly which one) with an ali chipset i believe. well heres the specs exactly: k6 2 500( was k6 2 400) gigabyte mobo(he also got a new mobo a while back, because the agp quit working on his old one) 3d prophet(geforce 256) w/ detonator 5.16 sb live! value 128 meg(2 64 meg chips) netgear 10/100 nic modem(not sure, but its an old 33.6 i believe. he cant get 56k connection anyway) 6 gig hard drive 17 gig hd the 6 gig has win2k on it 17 is split into 2 partitions w/ everything but os and a few other apps on them ok basically everything in this system has been replaced except for the sb live, the 6 gig hd, and a 64 meg ram chip, and he still has the same problem. the damn thing restarts or freezes randomly. it does this under every os he has tried. 95, 98, and 2k pro. i think the mobo he has now might be the same model as the one he had before but i'm not sure. i think it could be faulty ram but im not sure. thanks -tristan

    Random restarts on a k6.

ok. i'll try that stuff. he would be lucky if it happened every 3 days. it happens like every 5 minutes unless he is in a game, then it doesnt seem to do it so often, only sometimes. but he cant even browse the internet or anything anymore without it freezing or restarting 5 minutes after he starts up. its really strange. well try getting new bios and the agp/ide patch. i'll see if that helps.
  7. i have an intellimouse explorer that i was running through usb. i recently installed the via 4 in 1 4.22 update. this update wasnt for my usb but right after that the usb got messed up and the cursor movement was very jerky, and the mouse stopped responding and hour or 2 after i restarted. if i use it with a ps2 adapter it works fine but i liked my high refresh rate. i also have a problem with com1 and com3. they both share the same irq. i cant change the irq for com1 and if i change the irc for com2 i get an error after i restart saying "the device cannot start". so i uninstall and reinstall the port. it shares the same irq with com1 so i change it. i restart. i get "the device cannot start" error again. the only solution i have found is to uninstall com1 but its very annoying when i have to do this everytime i restart. my modem is on com3 and i cant figure out any way to change it so i have been stuck uninstalling com1 when i restart. i recently reformated to dual boot win2k and 98. before i was running just win2k. i had a com problem in the beginning but i was able to fix it. this one just keeps coming back. here's my specs: amd k6 III 450 on a FIC PA-2013 (VIA chipset) 128 meg of ram 13 gig wd hard drive(5 gigs 98, the rest 2k) sb live! value diamond viper v770 w/ detonator 5.16 cheap ISA aopen 5k voice modem netgear 10/100 nic hmmm... thats about it. thanks for the help. ok, i just wanted to point out that now my usb doesnt seem t be working at all. it works for about a minute or so and then the light goes off on the mouse and it stops responding. i tried reinstalling the usb drivers and i still have the same problem.... hmmmm..... i guess its ps2 for now... Via Drivers version 4.22

alright i installed it and now my usb is all screwed up. the cursor moves really jerky and the mouse stops responding after a couple hours or so. so my question is, "how the hell do i get rid of this?" i didnt see it on the add/remove programs.... hrmmm.... so where's it at then? ok, i realize that the update isnt for usb, but my usb started screwing up right after i installed it. the only solution i have found is to use the usb to ps2 adapter, which i would rather not do since the refresh rate is soooo much higher on usb.... I lost Dual Boot, how to restore?

err... i definately wouldnt suggest having both of them on the same partition. i tried that a long time ago and i could never get it to work right. i would suggest making 2 partitions. install win98 on c: as this seems to be the only partition it will install to and install it first. after that install win2k to e: or whatever your other partition is. it should have both os's on the boot up list and it works fine for me.

    sb live! and win2k

alright. i tested my soundcard and speakers in my win98 box and they both work fine. no background noise or anything like that. so at least i know its a software problem.... any ideas?

    sb live! and win2k

hmmm... i muted everything but play control and wav and i still get crappy interference... i dont have a microphone connected to it either. i checked the connection into the computer and into the sub, and speakers and they're all fine. but i am still getting noises.... also thanks for the help.

    sb live! and UT

ok i get this high pitched scratchy sort of noise in ut all the time. it just started a while ago and i cant get it to go away. i didnt switch drivers or anything... i have been using the liveware! for win2k drivers, which suck but at least i had clear sound for a while. i tried reinstalling the drivers. i dont know what else to do...

    Sound Blaster Live 1024 Player

hmmm.... well i just wanted to point out that the liveware drivers for win2k suck horribly. i get crackling sounds in half of my games and whenever more than 1 sound is playing at the same time, but w/ liveware 3 in 9x i had none of these problems... anybody know when liveware 3 is suposed to be released for win2k? it said may on their website but they havent said anything else about it since their first news post. its not the card though. the sb live! is a great card. the win2k drivers are **** though. Ultima Online

i get an annoying crackling sound now. it just started, but i dont think it's uo's fault. i also started getting a similar sound in ut, and in quake 3 a while back. i have reinstalled the drivers several times but i still get the noise. i cant wait until liveware 3....hopefully that will clear some of this up, if not i will probably just reformat and dual boot. i'm getting tired of dealing with all of these crap drivers.

    sb live! and UT

multispeaker is disabled. i only have 2 speakers + sub. and now i'm getting the same problem in ultima online, though it's not as bad....

soldier of fortune and maybe win2k

soldier of fortune runs unplayable slow. the sound and video is extremely choppy in the intros. i have yet to actually play the game because i cant get passed the menus because its too choppy. my setup is: amd k6- III 450 viper v770 ultra w/ detonator 5.13 sb live! value with sb live! for win2k drivers 128 megs of ram i think thats about it... i also have a 13 gig wd hd, a netgear 10/100 nic and a cheapo v.90 modem. i tried reinstalling the game several times. i even went through the registry and deleted every key i could find with raven or soldier of fortune in it. i also patched it with the only patch i could find which was a 1.04 patch that i got from sofnews.com i know my system can handle it because i have a friend with the same system as mine except he has a voodoo banshee and a diamond sonic impact sound card and a 10 gig maxtor. any idea? thank you in advance...

soldier of fortune and maybe win2k

ok, i applied the patch and now it doesnt run. so either it runs horribly or it doesnt run at all. geez... anyway, does anybody have any ideas? thanks for the help -tristan

soldier of fortune and maybe win2k

i dont know but it is. ok i logged in as a power user and it runs now, but it's slow. i dont mean slow like before but the game is very choppy. it's halfway playable but not enjoyable. and i know it shouldnt be this bad because like i said before i have seen it run on my friend's system with the banshee. i have the latest update as well. any ideas? also, thank you all. aparently the forum decided it didnt want to email me notification of replies anymore, which is the reason for the delay.

quake 2 crusher demo, and possibly win2k

ok, i was trying to run the crusher time demo on my comp to benchmark it. i have 3d now opengl for quake 2. not sure if theres a different version i should use instead but thats what i am currently running. heres my specs: amd k6-III-450 viper v770 ultra w/ (detonator...well i forgot which version but they're the only ones windows will load with, otherwise it just freezes at the splash screen everytime. also it installed my card as a tnt2 not tnt2 ultra. im not sure if that matters.) 128 meg pc100 sb live! value 13 gig hd(windows is running it in PIO mode according to the primary ide channel properties in device manager. not sure how to fix that. in the bios it says udma33 or ata33 or whatever. my cd rom is running DMA though...) ok i think thats all u will need. i also have a p.o.s. 56k v90 modem and a netgear 10/100 nic but i dont think that stuff will matter. is there any special tnt2 optimizations for quake2 or does quake just run like crap on everything except 3dfx cards? all of my scores were like in 20-30 fps. even with 8 bit textures and lower detail and stuff....

quake 2 crusher demo, and possibly win2k

well the k6s fpu is a real peice compared to the celeron, and i didnt know this when i bought the chip, but my k6 III should do quite a bit better still than that k6 2 350, due to the k6-IIIs tri level cache and the banshee isnt so good from what i have seen on a friend's comp...at least it would make sense to me... i still think i should be getting better performance than i am. i supose i could oc my cpu and v770 but i dunno if its worth the extra $ for fans...

Why does Liveware 3 for Windows2000 suck?

i am running those crappy win2k drivers as well. i first got them for eax but i am beginning to wonder if i still want them. half-life seems to run alright with it. in quake 3 and in UT i get an extremely loud crackling noise that nearly deafened me when i first ran quake 3. i got quake 3 after i installed the drivers so i'm not sure if it's the driver's fault or what... as far as UT the noise just started today. its not the same noise as in quake but its just as annoying and the funny thing is it just started today, even though i have had the drivers for a month or so now... i'm not sure if it's driver related or what?

quake 2 crusher demo, and possibly win2k

in quake3, i get 31.6 fps with the "High Quality" settings on demo001. im not sure if this is decent or bad or what. also starseige tribes seems to run alright in opengl. im not sure how/if you can benchmark it though. half-life runs okay in direct3d, but i dont have any benchmarks for it. if you know where to get one, i could try that out and tell you my results. i am running version 3.20 of quake 2 with 3D-Now! opengl. btw, thanks for all the help.

quake 2 crusher demo, and possibly win2k

ok i installed detonator 5.13 and i get the same 20 fps or there abouts... also do u think it might be because of vsync? i cant figure out how to disable it in windows... maybe i should try overclocking my tnt2u also... frog- sorry. its not hype ok.
  25. ok in device manager, where it says standard pc at the top(i assume this is the same on every system.) there is one of the yellow exclamation things. this is the error: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) this seems to be a favorite of windows, because just about every problem i hav had thus far this is the error i get. anyway, it doesnt seem to have really affected anything but i am just wondering what it means and how do i get rid of it? i also have a problem when i install my microtek slimscan c3. first of it installs it as a scsi scanner, and its not. but it works anyway, so i dont worry about it. also the bidirectionality of my hp deskjet 712c doesnt work when using the pass thru. i remedied this by just plugging and unplugging them when needed. somewhat of a pain but it works. anyway, it installs 2 scsi controllers and i have neither but it i try to delete either one, the scanner doesnt work. there is a yellow exclamation by both all the time too. the above problems, havent seemed to noticably affect performance but they're just sort of annoying, and i was wondering if there was anyway to get rid of them. and finally i have a problem with my udma 13 gig western digital hard drive. dma is enabled in the bios and when it says udma in the box when i restart. i hav the primary ide controller set to dma if available in windows but it still wants to use PIO. i'm not sure how to fix this but i'm sure it would improve performance quite a bit if i did... sorry for the long post and thanks for your help.
