  1. Hi, I'm having some problems with creating a custom default profile when I use the Sysprep 2.0 utility for XP. I go in and customize a profile just how I want everything, then I log in as the admin and copy the profile to Default user with everyone having rights to it. I have read that you should not do the copy over the default user anymore with XP to customize but I do not know anyother way. I have read that you should use sysprep and I think that is why I'm getting the changes after running it. I can not find or figure out how to use sysprep to do this task. Help please! No AD environment yet.
  2. Minisetup is not reading the INF file created with setupmgr.exe. I have a dir located at c:\sysprep and inside this dir is the sysprep.exe and the sysprep.inf. Any suggestions to why it is not reading the inf file? Sysprep.inf shown below ;SetupMgrTag [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=Not showing EncryptedAdminPassword=Yes OEMSkipRegional=1 OEMDuplicatorstring=WOODMERE_1.0 TimeZone=35 [userData] ProductID=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX FullName="" OrgName="Lear Corporation" [Display] BitsPerPel=16 Xresolution=1024 YResolution=768 [TapiLocation] CountryCode=1 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=231 LongDistanceAccess="9" [identification] JoinWorkgroup=WOODMERE [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes [unattended] TargetPath=\WINDOWS [branding] BrandIEUsingUnattended=Yes [Proxy] Proxy_Enable=0 Use_Same_Proxy=0

    Sysprep 2.0 and sysprep.inf

But shouldn't it look for the sysprep.inf if I select the mini setup or not? Or do I have to select miniseetup to use the sysprep.inf?

    Group Policy's

I want to change my group policy for the local machine but don't want the policy change to apply to all users only certain users or even a group. Is this possible without using Active Directory.

    Group Policy's

No I really want to say thank you for the help and also say keep this open maybe someone has another way to do this different. This allows for options. This way people have 2 options now if they read this forum. Before I started this I had none so thank you!

  7. Where is this newsid.exe located? I searched my entire HD for it and could not find the exe. Also found nothing on Microsoft supporting or using this method? Please provide more information.

    Group Policy's

Yes I think I'm using gpedit.msc. Basically using mmc and adding the group policy add in which I'm pretty sure is gpedit.msc. When I did this (as admin account, remember not in AD environment) it makes this policy effective for all users no matter what level of rights or the group they are in. It would seem like that is the way it should work by user so you select the user or a group of users but has not worked that way. I have not tried any of the second steps you talk about. I have talked with some people on this and they seem to think that you have to have AD in order to do what I want to do.
  9. I have already viewed all these articles and I'm doing exactly what they say. As you can see though in the second one Q321281 It states: Quote: The supported method of building a customized profile for deployment purposes is to use the Sysprep tool. For additional information, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 314472 Quick Guide to Preinstalling Windows But you go to the other article and all it explains to you is how to reseal the machine which doesn't customize the profile at all! Yes the reason I'm using sysprep is to generate a new sid. I'm also starting to use it with the -clean to remove hardware profiles because I"m having trouble with getting only one ghost to work with mulitple Hardware profiles anymore. If I can create a new sid with newsid.exe I will try that though because that will fix my problem with it changing the default user profile. Do you know of a file I can run that will do the -clean with sysprep (of course I have not fully tested this yet to verify it fixes my problem) But my images don't startup with different hardware profiles anymore. The -clean made it sound like it would fix this problem and it seems like I did try it once on a machine and it worked, hard for me to remember. If anyone knows how to fix my problem with running the Sysprep utility I would be interested in knowing that also.

I'm trying to lock down things like being able to change desktop wallpaper. Not being able to go into add/remove programs to add games. Things like this. Just trying to lock certain things down so that users can't do things.

    KR7a-RAID - AMD 1900+

I have a KR7a-RAID by ABIT and an AMD Athalon 1900. I have 2 questions first is it normal for that chip to run at about 67 degrees? Also I have a ? about the motherboard when I look at how the chip is setup in the Bios it shows AMD 1900+ but shows in (133)this says to me it is running 133 mhz Front Side Bus when should be 266 am I wrong?? Also the memory says (133) which I have 512MB of 2100DDR by Kingston. Which should also be running 266 why does the bios say this and am I losing performance from my hardware by having something setup wrong??? Seeking anyone with a KR7a-RAID motherboard!!! Jamie

    KR7a-RAID - AMD 1900+

Ok I have the Cooler Master model DP5-6I31C I did see on the Athlon site that the chips max die temp is 90 degrees. But I'm worried about once I really start to crunch calculations It doesn't seem to have much room for it to rise. Also I've heard that Athlon's are excellent for overclocking but it is running super hot as it is. I'm not looking to OC but want to make sure my chip is running cool. My case temp is not a problem it runs around 35 to 40. I kinda understood about the 133 thing but seems like it would say 266.

    EazyCDCreator3.5c ASPI Errors

Not having any trouble with cd copier deluxe and don't seem to have problems with making a data cd with eazycdcreator but when I try to do an audio cd I'm getting ASPI errors and making coasters! I had this problem earlier and it was MusicMatch Jukebox(everytime right after installing MMJ I would make coasters go back to a ghost without MMJ worked great). So now I don't install MusicMatch and I have had no problems but getting problems again. I have heard of people having problems with ver4.02. Does anyone have an excellent CDR-RW software solution for Win2K? I had no problems for 2 years under win98. I have a Yamaha 4x2x6, Toshiba cd-rom and old 2GB HD all on my SCSI chain. I also have IBM drive on ATA66 and an old HD on regular IDE. Any help would be great!! I'm so sick of making coasters! Thinking of dual booting to 98 just to make CDs!

    Creating a Win2000 Ghost Image

I'm trying to create a Win2000 Ghost image for multiple types of Dell Optiplex machines. I was wondering what was the best way of going about this? With 98 it was best to remove all Hardware in the Device Manager and you had to do it in a certain order to get it all removed. What is the best way to do this with Windows 2000? Also any problems doing this with NTFS?

    Creating a Win2000 Ghost Image

Just wondering and by the way thank you. Couldn't I remove the Hard drive controller before I make the ghost then it would have to refind the new controllers for the machine when it starts up? This is what we did with 98, if not what is the difference with 2000 so I have some understanding?

    EazyCDCreator3.5c ASPI Errors

Ok so is there a way to get Windows Media to play nice with Eazy CD Creator? Also I tried Nero and it burned to 100% then crashed and said failed at 4x speed. Which is bull! I have burned over 200 CD's at 200 this exact way with 3.5c in win98 and never made a coaster.

    EazyCDCreator3.5c ASPI Errors

I will try nero and see if that is the problem but I know I had a problem with that also way back. So I stopped using it also but I will give it a try.

    EazyCDCreator3.5c ASPI Errors

Docsilly, I installed Media7 using typical install. From your comment I felt like that is what you recommend? Is this wrong? Also I'm wondering have you ever had same problems? With EZCDCreator? No problems with cd copier no problems with data use of EZCDCreator(pretty sure) only the audio part. When it errors both my cd lights go off like it is searching the SCSI Chain?

    EazyCDCreator3.5c ASPI Errors

well just to let you know 3.5c does work in win2k. I have used it since win2k came out and adaptec even says it works they just won't support it in win2k anymore. I'm just wondering if Windows Media does anything to the aspi layer? Also people are having the same problem with 4.02 so I'm looking for a real solution for win2k! I have also had problems with Nero.
