In WinXP, click Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, and then Program Compatibility Wizard. If no luck, then use the help system and search for "compatibility."

If you have a VIA Based chipset try the PCI Latency Patch.

XP's compatibility with 95/98/ME games is pretty damn good. The assistant is located in the Accessories section of the start menu. However, first try the games normally without fiddling, most of them work fine.

To admin, I need to change my email in my profile, but when I try to do so it says that the email is registered to another user. Strange thing is, is that I just created this address (at Excite.com) a few days ago. So its impossible for someone else to have it.

Thank-you Phillip, much appreciated! 8)

I thought I would throw in some experience. I know someone who had a AMD K6-2 350MHz processor, he installed Windows 2000 on it which at the time had only 64 MB RAM. It ran alright, he isn't a heavy user, mostly running Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Internet Exlporer, Nero, and Winamp. When RAM became cheap it popped in a 256 MB RAM module to up the RAM to 320 MB, and all of the older programs executed noticeably faster and disk swapping became less frequent. So...if you upped your memory you would have a better performing system, but as ChristianB says, running Windows 2000 Pro on a Pentium 200 is not common nor is it a good idea, it is like asking an old 386 to run Windows 95.

Thanks Phillip, I just sent you an email by clicking the email button in your profile.

I have not got my copy yet since its a bit pricey for an expansion, but I will have it eventually. I thought the demo was good, and have heard that the single play (which I want the most) looks promising.

Next year we should see.... Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Unreal 2: The Awakening Deus Ex 2: Invisible War Doom 3 and possibly Quake 4.

No One Lives Forever 2 should be in the mix as well.

Compatibility issues on Windows 2000 with Office XP Pro
pmistry replied to Sakirik's topic in Customization & Tweaking
There really is no reason why it wouldn't run on Windows 2000, by the way why are you in the middle of the Pacific ocean, on a plane? -
Yeah the odds are insane and overall this sucks.

I like PC-cillin.

Seriously --anything wrong with using XP's compatibility DB?
pmistry replied to RedStar's topic in Games
Honestly, if someone could just create a fix for Need For Speed: High Stakes, and Need For Speed 2 SE using XP's database for Windows 2000 and share it for everybody, we could all be happy. -

Here's a link to an article over at Do It Yourself Games, this guy really hates video games. Here's a quip I took from FiringSquad. DIYG: A lot of people would argue that the difference there is that video games have never directly killed somebody. DG: Yeah. [censored]ography has never directly killed somebody. And really [censored]ography is one of the analogies. And the truth is that [censored] has a healthy place is most peoples' lives. You just saw me training a bunch of law enforcement. I train military, I train special ops [personnel]. There's no doubt in their mind, absolutely no doubt, that the training they need to get, need to give, in order to enable their soldiers and cops to kill in combat is being done in the video games industry. They know it, there's no question, there's no doubt. There's absolutely no doubt. So saying that they've never actively killed anybody is kind of like the gun industry saying, “Guns don't kill people, people kill people.” You need three things to kill people. You need a weapon, you need the skill, and you need the will to kill. Video games provide two out of the three. Source: http://www.firingsquad.com

Quote: Yawn. Stop browsing crappy websites. It was at FiringSquad which had a link to DIYG, which I agree is a very crappy website, the first.....and last time I go there.

Man I didn't think this thing would be so popular, I'll extract them again and send it to both of you. Sorry if it took to long, but I stopped watching this thread.

Hey I mentioned that I liked RTCW Single Player. In fact I didn't like the multiplayer aspect of it, no free for all. Adam, I gave the Spearhead demo a whirl and it was good. I liked the new maps. I am eagerly awaiting the SP portion of this pack.

Quote: Pmistry, since you enjoyed MOH:AA, I thought I'd let you know that there's a demo available for the missionpack, Spearhead. It plays great. You can get it from FilePlanet. Yeah I have been eagerly awaiting for that expansion. Thanks for the heads up on that Adam, downloading now...

Anyone looking forward to the Need For Speed title, I know I am, I just hope that the PC version will be similar in terms of features to the Playstation 2 version. Oh by the way EA, I hope you make it run properly under Windows 2000, unlike Porsche Unleashed and High Stakes. You dirty [insert whatever you want here] http://www.needforspeed.com

Yeah new MS OS Releases piss me off sometimes, like Windows 2000 when released broke compatibility with lots of games. DOS games are pretty much gone now. Windows XP can run most Win9x games but there are still some that just don't run the same for me, in fact almost any game based on the Quake2 engine gives me save game errors. Occurs under Quake2, Sin, and Kingpin. I wonder how these games will run on a 64-bit "consumer" version of Windows.
-
Yeah I know what you mean, sometimes software companies suck or rush too much and overlook something that causes someone utter frustration. I remember a game called Sin, which when first released at v1.00 was complete shit, I made it so far in that game only to learn that the game wasn't beatable, due to many bugs. I then grabbed the 1.01 patch and learned that hey your save games are incompatible with the new version. Great.......
