Yes Server is identical to Pro in terms of what it can run, it just has some Server features on top. Performance is identical too, unless you are going to be running a server.

*NOTE*...Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 Performance Problems
pmistry replied to Silverado's topic in Games
NFS HP2 also has problems with Radeon 8500 cards, using the latest BETA drivers from ATI can fix the issue. Also moving the special effects down 1 notch can fix the problem too. -
Yeah man, demo was out a few weeks ago. www.needforspeed.com

Ok, so its out and I am a tad disappointed. Pros: Good graphics, as expected, nice set of cars, interesting tracks, fun gameplay. Cons: Not enough variation with the tracks and too many ripped out features from NFS3, High Stakes, and Porsche Unleashed. For example, we are missing weather effects, night mode driving, and car dashboards. Plus for some reason it won't save my joystick controls and upon startup it complains that it doesn't recognize it explicity, even though the gamepad works just fine. (Logitech Wingman Extreme USB) Another complaint I have is the worthless interface, it sucks, its like a console game, it doesn't even make use of a PC mouse very well, compared to NFS 3, NFS 5, or the absolutely amazing interface of High Stakes, Hot Pursuit 2 is VERY basic, its all just text. Also where are the car statistics for comparisons and class groupings for the cars?

On a side note, Adamvjackson, you have got to be the fastest guy to get to around 400+ posts seeing how you joined the forum in August 2002, wow 3 months! Plus its was only August 26, and now its October 24, so really its been only 2 months, even more impressive!

Winrar's self extraction option is quite good too, you can load in a custom icon for exe, specify where the files will extract into, plus you can specify whether or not to run a program after the extraction like a setup.exe, you can even have some files deleted afterward. In addition, you can also customize the EXE extraction screen by typing in a message, "This self-extracting file contains, Quake III 1.6 Patch" or something to that effect.

Quote: Must have missed it from back then, but you can rest assured that it's still funny... Definitely, I bet there are a hundred more out there too, just waiting to be uncovered. I do remember one Mac joke where it would go full screen and would have the Mac logo guy crush the Windows logo and then show a fullscreen DOS session and then have it imaginary deleting your Windows files in C:\Windows and then C:\Windows\System and then C:\Program Files, amazingly enough if your copy of Windows was installed in a different folder this joke would pick it up too.

You need to enable this feature simply go here the method for SP2 should work with SP3. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q279792 If the link doesn't work go the Microsoft Knowledge base and get article Q279792.

I have been using Winrar since about version 2.00 beta, and every release makes it better. Even better is Eugene Roshal, the guy who created Winrar, I suggested that he add in ACE extraction support so I wouldn't have to keep around that WinAce extractor for ACE files, the next release did in fact have ACE extraction support. Nice!

I have no problems and do not need any sort of compatibility update to get NFS 3 or NFS 4 working under Windows XP. There is a download compatibility update for NFS 5, download it at MS's web site or get SP1. However, even without that NFS5 worked fine for me.

Man that sucks, damn EA sometimes.

The full version will work, since its opengl, the problem will be sound, it will be laggy due to no directx sound driver for nt, the game just uses directx 3 components for input and direct draw and stuff. the demo should work too, can you just skip the dx8 install?

Drive C: is primary hard disk, NTFS, Windows XP installed, basic disk. Drive D: is slave hard disk, FAT32, nothing installed, basic disk. Possible to install Win9x on drive D ;(
-
Well won't work unless you have an MS-DOS boot partition on C:, just as I figured.
-
If you have 2 hard disks or use PartitionMagic to create 2 active boot partitions you can install 98 on one and Me on the other. However, when booting into the other OS you must mark the other OS's partition as hidden. Only 1 can be active at a time. Simply put just pick either ME or 98, 98 is nearly dead, ME while it isn't the best of the 9x OSes, it'll be supported (games and stuff) for at least as long as Windows 2000 is around.

Are you using the English version of Deus Ex? Might be incompatible with Greek Version of Windows XP. Try patching Deus Ex to the latest release, www.deus ex.com (remove the space in the middle of web address) for download locations, the latest multiplayer has all the single player fixes for you. Also you have a fairly older system, maybe you should wait a little longer to load saves.

Quote: lol...well yea my copy seemed to have found its way on to my harddrive somehow too 8) how did that get there i wonder lol... It must be that new virus circulating around the Internet, you know the one that downloads all these so called "retail games" on your machine, in which you have no control whatsoever! Damn these people who program these nasty viruses. ;(

I dislike this Nvidia logo being on all the new games. Like UT 2003. What the hell is this? Its like the Windows logo on PC compatible games, which makes more sense.

What is amazing is that this rant of mine lives on a year after Yeah I still think EA are a bunch of ignorant sluts, their new release of NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 works fine under Windows 2000 and XP, which is a good sign, however, the demo is causing problems with my Radeon 8500, I found the problem hopefully it will be fixed in the final release or by ATI issuing a driver.

http://mirror.ati.com/products/pc/radeon9000pro/specs.html Looks like it does support AGP 8x.
-
They'll work but most likely you would need to disable sound. Try the VDMS for sound.

As a student myself I have not seen much of a difference between 97, 2000 and XP, the school labs have Office XP and realistically it performs the same, only difference that was extremely noticeable was the autocorrect feature in Word.
