Uhhh guys THERE IS NO IRQ 16.....it goes from 0-15 only.

I have Cruel and it works fine under XP and 2000. The only game I have an issue with is Jezzball, sound won't work under 2000 but will under XP. You might be missing some files or something, I can send you this stuff in a zip, give it a try.

Maybe the RAM settings in your BIOS are set to Turbo or something faster so that the RAM can't handle it, if this is the case, try setting the Asus board to set RAM timings automatically or use more conservative settings.

Hey Sapiens, will Intel be releasing an updated 850 chipset to support AGP 8x and other new stuff in the future or is RDRAM dead.
-
I used to buy ATI cards all the time, then switched over to GeForce2 MX, because ATI drivers sucked, now I need another video upgrade and am considering the Radeon 8500 128 MB Retail board, its price will be cut and should provide some good frame rates for my system thats getting a bit old, an Athlon 750, it should also keep me going when I get my new P4 in the fall or something.
-
btw, is there an extreme difference in performance under different OSes? Is it faster on 9x than 2000 or XP?
-
Any of you ATI Radeon 8500 users try the new ATI Catalyst driver suite? Post some feedback, I hear ATI is slashing prices next week to make room for the R300/R250 core models of the Radeon.

If you could upgrade just 1 thing in your system what would

1 phrase.........I have a GeForce2 MX -
It can be done, since I have done it, I used my OEM Windows 2000 Professional CD, no integrated Service Pack. I just popped the CD in and it then asked me if I wanted to upgrade, I clicked yes and off it went. Now doing this is not recommended since alot of things get messed up. Most of my applications and games worked ok, but the system was wonky and unstable, most of the icons have no icon pictures since Me has a few different icons then Windows 98 did and Me also has icons in different files thus Windows 2000 uses 98 as a reference and thus all the icons are either wrong or non-existent, some of the icons even stay in 16-color mode even in high color displays. There is something wrong with the start menu too, when you go to the advanced properties for the Taskbar, you will see all of the Windows 2000 options for displaying favorities, scrolling programs, etc, but you will see the Windows ME options as well. The control panel is messed up and I couldn't access the System from there. I'll stop rambling now, just do a clean install, Upgrading Windows ME to Windows 2000 = Windows 2000 with a ME kernel.

Thanks for the info Sapiens.

Can you still use old PC800/PC1066 16-bit modules too though with the P4T533?
-
I too have decided on my next machine, it will mostly serve as a Workstation PC, but will get some gaming on it too...can someone tell me the real difference between P4T533 and P4T533-C, something to do with 32-bit RIMM support???????? Is this where I can only put 1 RDRAM stick in, instead of 2 at a time? I am picking up the: Intel Pentium 4 1.6 GHz Northwood Asus P4T533-C or P4T533 Samsung 256 MB PC800 RDRAM [upgrade to 512 later] 400-watt P4 ready ATX Case ATI Radeon 8500 128 MB [gonna use that ATI Trade Up program]

Hey if you have a VIA KT333 board post some information here about stability, performance, compatibility with GF4 boards if you have one, Windows XP performance, etc. I am interested in hearing about these boards mostly but if you have a different one let me know. Asus A7V333 /w RAID MSI KT3 Ultra ARU ECS K7VTA3 v3.x Epox EP-8K3A+ Abit KX7-333 RAID Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra I am leaning towards the MSI board.

I think Raven kinda rushed Soldier of Fortune 2 as they kinda left the project sitting around for awhile. Originally Soldier 2 was supposed to come out around December or so, but then Raven received the Jedi Knight project and then they worked on that and finished it ahead of Solider 2, even though they were working on Soldier 2 before JK2, this kind of explains the models being of lesser quality. As well, Soldier 2 was being talked about a long time before both Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor, yet both of those games came out before, I think SOF 2 just lots its thunder, and Raven may have lost some interest in the game as well.

I bought it last week, I had to try out my new credit card, so oh well. It's a fun game, I am enjoying, only gripe is my current PC setup has forced me to run it in 640x480 with some details reduced.
-
Also I wouldn't mind having a motherboard with 2 AGP slots, for dual monitor action and double graphic fun, ie. a GeForce for fast gaming and maybe a Matrox card for desktop work. Instead of AGP / PCI stuff or AGP card with 2 monitor ports etc.

What do you consider the best computer game ever made?

Deus Ex Heretic Quake 3 Doom 2 Need For Speed High Stakes Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 I just love these ones, I like a whole bunch of more games like Jedi Outcast, Max Payne, RTCW, MOHAA, Hexen, etc, but these stand out for me. -
I meant other boards with optional RAID etc. I wasn't referring to the Abit one, sorry about that. I am not a real big fan of Abit boards, I find them to be a bit [no pun here] wonky. I had a KA7-100 which had some weird problems. I prefer Asus.

Interesting board, but yeah 3 PCI is very limiting, if I don't get RAID on the motherboard, I would need 1 slot for it, plus I have 2 LAN cards, 1 Sound card, and 1 modem. =4 PCI cards, I can live with 5 slots, but not 3.
-
Well yeah we can go all hogwild with our imagination, but right now I want INTEL to support DDR333 and DDR400, what the hell is the point with the 845E, all they did was add 533 FSB, could have added new DDR support. Anyways I want a motherboard with 4 DIMMS with DDR400, 6 PCI slots, AGP 8X, 8 USB 2.0 ports, and 2 Firewire ports.

I used to love surfing Gamespot.com but now you have to pay to access even simple reviews of PC games. I wanted to check a review of Grand Theft Auto 3 but its locked. I wanted to see some commentary on E3 2002, locked, Soldier of Fortune 2 review, locked. I mean come on, wouldn't they make enough on company advertising? I can understand charging for downloads since it consumes bandwidth, but this is just crazy. Well, time to find another gaming site.

Quote: Just vote with your feet, i couldnt beleve it either. I realise that they need money to run a website but to have everything password protected is taking it a tad far. Especially when you can just look some place else Exactly, I wonder how long Gamespot will hold onto its viewership.

When will all these motherboards begin shipping? I want to upgrade my PC but with this new stuff coming out, I may wait a bit. What do you guys think is the best of the bunch? New technologies like AGP 8x, DDR 400, various new RAMBUS speeds like 1066, 1200, and 32-bit RAMBUS modules so you can install them 1 at a time, also the inclusion of USB 2.0 and Firewire as standards to the motherboards, makes we impatient.

Check this, I recently tried to play a video in Internet Explorer. I clicked the link and Windows Media Player (7.0) opened up and played a video perfectly fine and then closed, then IE crashed and then I was asked to send an error report, I did and then it asked if I wanted to see more information about this problem. I said yes and followed the link and led me here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.asp...;LCID=1033& Now MS is telling me to upgrade to a new version of Windows Media Player, I found that to be odd, I mean why won't this version work properly? I mean all I wanted to do was view a video, I don't need the resource hogging WM 8. I just think this is stupid and not really a solution, its almost as if it was meant to crash on purpose. Ok, I am going to stop ranting now.

Now with what thekourier said about the upgrade options, he's completely right. However, you've got to admit that no other company can frustrate you as much as MS can. I mean when NT4 was out, I really wanted full Directx, USB, and AGP, along with Plug and Play, but they wouldn't give it to us. The same with Windows 2000, I wanted full 9x game compatibility but that didn't happen. MS is very tactful they know how to get people frustrated enough so that they will fork over the money to upgrade sometimes. I see no real reason why MS couldn't patch some of that support I mentioned above into the OS. When NT4 first shipped it lacked any sort of DirectX support but eventually we got quasi-DX3 but then couldn't patch higher than that and Direct3D is non-existent.
