Folks... a question about an OpenGL port for Duke Nukem 3D (
pmistry replied to DosFreak's topic in Games
Jakko, the man responsible for JHeretic/JDoom and JHexen has started to patch all of his ports to 1.0. He has done Doom and Heretic. Hexen is up to v0.9x or so and it runs REALLY NICE ALREADY. 1.0 is just to speed up netplay and stuff, I would give JHexen a whirl and that guy Jakko is just that damn good, he takes suggestions and does whatever he can. Great person and great work on the ports. -

GL Duke Exists! Download Here: http://glduke.dukenukemcenter.com/news.phtml?id=105775&language=en You'll find some info for it here: http://glduke.dukenukemcenter.com/ There is a Blood GL in development as well: Called Qblood, putting Blood into the Quake engine. http://www.planetblood.com/qblood/ No word on Shadow Warrior, but I am not a fan of SW. -
I am thinking of jumping my 2K/ME dual to XP Home. Will do a fresh install, and I just don't need those extra PRO features. However, I have heard so many reports that DOS games have sound under XP, is this true? I just wanted to know for something like Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood.

Your missing out on heck of an adventure with the 5-episode Heretic. It is absolutely amazing, great levels, more power-ups, midi music, and cool enemies. You just got to experience the full version somehow.....email me.

SP1 and it will work for sure, but since you can't go to SP1, you may be out of options.....HOWEVER, install and run on SP1, then update back to SP2 and it still WORKS, its just the install hates SP2 or something........I don't know. But it worked fine for me.
-
Yeah it should work with the shareware version. I don't think piracy is a good thing, but there a ton of old abandonware sites that have the full 5-episode pack of Heretic for download. Its Heretic, its a good game, and its old, no REAL harm done. Now if it was Quake 3 or Max Payne.....but then again I am not gonna start a war on this one, someone posted an abandonware site here not too long ago. www.freeoldies.com is a good starting point.

Forgot to mention these ports support Direct3D as well.
-
Oh yeah, JHeretic is such a mature port, it runs great on my lowly GeForce2MX, it would run super sweet on your system. If it runs fast at 1024 for me I am guessing you could easily push 1600. BTW, there is a JDOOM, and JHEXEN too! There were some old ports but those are long dead, they were pretty much Voodoo based, etc. http://jheretic.raven-games.com/ http://jdoom.newdoom.com/ http://jhexen.raven-games.com

Thanks for all the feedback. How about High Stakes?
-
ah but with Heretic just use JHeretic, then you get OpenGL.

My hardware is AMD Athlon 750, GeForce 2 MX [Hercules 3D Prophet 2 MX], and 512 Megs of RAM, SB Live Player 1024.

so the sound does work for the most part. Does MIDI music work too along with sound effects?

under device manager under cd-rom drives, click your LG cd-rom and under settings make sure auto insert notification is enabled, this will ensure autorun works. as for shortened file names make sure you are not using an ms-dos driver for your cd-rom, check config.sys for any loading of cd-rom drives.

That FireGL is a workstation board, games compatibility problems are bound to bug you, i am sorry i really can't help you out, but thought you deserved a reply. most of those cards and its drivers are just not written to support directx well.
-
If you are using Direct3D, open up directx diagnostics, hit run and type dxdiag. Under advanced click Override Refresh Rate, type 120 then try it. This will override for all resolutions so if you try to got 1024 and your monitor can't do 120 at 1024, well you get the idea.

True, SCSI is really intended for intense bandwidth and less CPU usage ideal for high class workstations. You can get more space and more than 1 hard disk than the price of 1 SCSI drive + controller. Its a really expensive option.

its on the NT4 CD if you need please post your email and i will send them to you.

June 30, 2002 is only six months away, ah yes the death of Win98 and NT4. I know this is only extended phase and not the non-supported phase. But Win95 was pretty much dead back in 99.
-
I have to agree with you on that. it seems to me that DirectX is becoming more optimized for the Windows 2000/XP platform then it is for 9x. Hard to believe but 9x is beginning to die. By killing Win95 support in 8.1, it was just the first step. By DX 9.1, 98 support will be gone for sure. I used to get better frame rates under 98 but now 2000 just trounces it, in every new driver version, and the overall stability and maturity of 2000 is nice now.
-
Win98 shipped with Directx 5, so the update may have to do more to get it up to 8.1 if some people still run 5.0. On the flip side Win2k shipped with 7, I believe thus up[censored] would require less work. My theory anyway.

Quake 3-10 UT-7 Serious Sam-6 Only for co-op
-
Please don't flame me on this. But I think Half-Life is an absolute pile of crap. My opinion. Sorry I hate that game. I like UT bot play too, but I dig Quake 3 and its mods on online play the most.

Somebody give me a working link or email it here: pmistry_@go.com Thanks a bunch, the link here at NTCompatible is dead.

Thanks Igor, and the rest who sent me one.

the target date is November 27, which it should make quite easily. At least this game is going to come out by year's end. Unlike some other game I won't ...........actually I will Duke Nukem Forever. This game is an absolute joke. Who would have thought that a Wolfenstein follow-up, Unreal 2, Doom 3, Quake 4, Unreal Warfare, Jedi Knight 2, and Soldier 2 all have a shot at making it to the shelves before Duke Forever? Because I am pretty sure that Duke 4 won't make it by this year. Either by Summer, or next Christmas, but then again they may need a whole new engine by then or something.
