i like the new 2001 ICQ, it is more stylish and elegant looking than the past versions. The ads are still in there, but they don't bug me. I am still unsure about ICQ plus working with it. Mine isn't working.

I just downloaded and installed Virtual PC 4.2 for Windows in Windows 2000, I then just launched Windows NT4 Workstation setup, I got all set up and then got a screen where you have to press ctrl-alt-del to log on, the problem is that when I press that combination, I get stuck in Windows 2000 ctrl-alt-del logon and thus I can't even log into my emulated Windows NT4, any ideas to bypass this?

Nice. I installed a variety of OSes with Virtual PC yesterday. Man I must have been real bored all afternoon. I successfully installed Windows 95 Orginal retail I bought way back in October 95. Windows 95 OSR2 MS-DOS 6.22, and then added Windows 3.1, ah yes Windows 3.1 on Athlon 750. Windows NT Workstation 4.0, then added SP6a I tried to install OS/2 Warp 3.0, but ran into problems with reading the floppies, the floppies are in some XDF format. I didn't bother with 98 or ME since I am dual booting 98 and 2000 currently, I did dual with ME and 2000 before, but I just don't like Millennium. But since 95 worked fine I am sure ME and 98 will work fine too in Virtual PC.

Check out 56k.com for some possible solutions. YOu don't have an Abit motherboard or Lucent modem, so I no of no solutions.

Its a pretty interesting program. I just installed my old copy of Windows 95, and it works great. I am going to try some old DOS games and see if they will work. I have started to fiddle with NT4, good stuff, works quite fast, and very stable even in emulated state.

oh sorry, i just figured it out, use the menus.

tell me your modem brand, motherboard brand, OS etc.

His above specs show that he is using Windows 2000 SP2, with some hotfixes.

possibly. i am unsure, but without any Service Packs, NT4 is really fussy about partitions greater than 2 GB. I had a 3GB, 1 GB split on a 4GB long time ago. I tried to install NT4 on the 1 GB but got problems so I split it 2/2 and then it worked. I tried making partitions at the end/beginning and pretty much fiddled with Partition Magic to the max, never worked.

There is a 2GB barrier problem with NT4 where the if the first partition is greater than 2 GB NT4 will refuse to boot, even if it is hidden, NT4 still can see it. I believe you need NT4 with SP4 or later but you should use SP6. I don't know how you can update NT4 without getting it to boot though

Sorry about that then.

High Stakes uses Direct3D not OpenGL, make sure your Direct3D is working by using DirectX Diagnostics. Hit run and type in dxdiag, [assuming it is still with WinXP] Check ATI's site for news regarding XP drivers for Rage 128 based cards, I don't think they are out yet and the ones from XP's CD won't support advanced features like Direct3D, but you may have luck with Win2k drivers.

some people get this problem under Windows 2000 with any SB PCI card, whether it is PCI64, PCI 128, and PCI 512. Just hope that Creative will address the issue, but I feel that they are ignorant sluts.

Ok, I had this same problem when the internet connection went dead after 20 seconds. What kind of modem do you have? If you have a Lucent 56k based chipset modem you will get this problem on some motherboards and some OSes. Usually Abit motherboards get this problem, especially under newer OSes like Windows Millennium and Windows 2000. Send some specifics, and check out the forums here: http://www.56k.com/

I wouldn't mind switching my Athlon SLOT A, to an Athlon Socket A, I like that Asus A7A266, I can use my PC133 memory for a while before jumping to DDR. If I don't do that then a second hard disk 40 GB 7200 RPM minimum with ATA 100 card would be nice and possibly a faster GeForce2 card, Geforce 2 Ultra or 3.

best 9x OS was Win95 because it wasn't baggaged with DirectX, IE, and technology was crap then so it only 50 megs of disk space, but times have changed.
-
I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus ATA100 20 gb 7200 RPM and it is fast, reliable, and quiet. Never had an IBM drive so I can't comment, but Maxtor is cheaper I think. Western Digital you left out, but many like them. TO hell with FUJITSU.

I've been using some CD-R software lately and I can't STAND CDRWIN, it's junk. It burns CDs fine except the fact that the data is not readable, Nero is king for me, and now that I found BINCHUNKER I can convert to ISO from BIN. I am happy.
-
I have the exact same problem, but my save games remain in tact. If you've got 9x, and NFS4 installed under that, you could change everything to the way you want it and then just use that config.cfg file.

ME vs 2K will it ever end?

Anyone of you guys got this video card [3D Prophet2MX]? I got BIOS version 3.11.00.04 there are several new BIOSes on the Hercules web site, just wondering if a Flash could help improve performance/compatibility etc. Anyone else flash their GeForce BIOSes?

I can't fax with Win2k and Office 2k. When I select my file to fax by hitting print and then fax driver. the wizard pops up and i run through the steps and then click fax, but then winword.exe closes due to errors. the same with other programs like excel and powerpoint. I am running Windows 2000 Pro with SP1.

My modem is Win2k and Winxp compatible, it is a Lucent 56k V.90 board, it is actually manufactured by Lucent I think as it doesn't have another company stamp on it. Usually Lucent just provided the chipset.
