    thanks DOSFreak!
  2. The files regedit.exe and regedt32.exe are they the same? How is the Win2k registry different compared to 9x or NT4? Thanks.

    problems with Nd4SPD:high stakes

I just noticed that when i ran NFS4 it was without my net connection. I reenabled my Cable connection and ran NFS 4 and it worked without a hitch. Online play works. Although, I am hesitant to install SP1 or SP2, quite frankly I don't need them anyway. My system is stable as hell. This is the first time I have went from Win98 > WinME > Win2000, all upgrades too. I am just waiting for XP, I'll do a clean install then. I also get NFS 5 to work as well. I think you gotta install NFS 5 before SP2 or it won't work.

    problems with Nd4SPD:high stakes

After I upgraded a Windows ME install with High Stakes already installed, the game still runs inside Windows 2000! Yea! Finally after trying every damn solution around. Running Windows 2000 Professional with no Service Pack installed. I also disable my Internet connection while playing.

    Irq problem on windows 2000pro

You shouldn't have disabled ACPI if you weren't having problems. ACPI specs make PCI cards share IRQ's it is part of the PCI 2.1 or 2.2 spec. Did your framerates drop after ACPI was disabled or before? Because you said you noticed that all your IRQs were being shared [not a problem] but then you disabled ACPI, shouldn't have because PCI cards share IRQs. So to get ACPI back you need to reinstall a clean copy of Windows 2000.

    problems with Nd4SPD:high stakes

but honestly, just forget it, high stakes is the absolute worst game to get running under Windows 2000, even if you do manage to get it going you will run into more problems later with corrup install files , etc, happened to me more than once. EA sucks with support for their games. If high stakes would work under Windows 2000 i would have no need for a dual boot, but I also can't get NFS:PU working either, swap file and gimme.dll tricks.......... already tried those Here is one method that let me run the game 2 times before corrupt installation files, install it under Windows 9x/Me then export the registry to Win2k and run it.

    Another Dual-Boot Question

I had NT4 and Win98 split on a 4 gig hard disk once with 2 gigs to each OS, and both partitions were primary. I created both primaries with Partition Magic. I then searched the Internet and found a bootsect.dos or some file with that sort of name that allowed the NTFS NT4 partition pull up the FAT32 boot partition and boot Win98.
  12. I was wondering since Windows 2000 can use FAT32, I was wondering if during the WINNT4 setup, if you pressed F6 and loaded the Win2k FAT32 file system driver, that NT4 would use it and have it work with NT4, you would probably need to write an oemsetup.inf file or something, but I was just wondering if this get NT4 to use FAT32 natively rather than relying on Systernal driver. Just a theory, and I am sure it wouldn't work.

Am I the only 1 who thinks EA are ignorant sluts?

.............but a game is only as good as long as it works. I can't get NFS: HS and NFS: PU working under 2K, and that simply sucks. I cannot get my friends PC to work with Live 2001 or NHL 2000, it is simply frustrating and only EA causes this frustration.
  14. Hey I got a Linksys USB 100 TX adapter and have it plugged in, it is used to connect to my @home service. However, whenever I try to use my CD drive to copy large files the CPU use jumps to 100 % and the system begins to bog down. If I disable the network connection from the task bar, CD drive use doesn't make the system jump to 100 %, I have plenty of RAM, 512 MB so I don't understand if this is due to a poor driver for the USB adapter [i checked for updates], poor VIA 4-In-1's I tried different release all had same result or is something I have to deal with? Under ME or 98 I don't get this problem. Windows 2000 SP2 Linksys USB 100 TX Mitsumi 4/4/24 Burner, Panasonic 12x CD drive 512 Megs of PC133 Logitech Wingman USB joystick Asus K7V, Athlon 750, Maxtor 20gb 7200 RPM 3D Prophet 2 MX, SB Live, Lucent 56k Winmodem
  15. Spindle speed is what you need: I had an ATA100 board [the KA7-100] and my Maxtor 20GB has identical performance now on my ATA66 Asus K7V. Also an ATA66 7200 RPM drive will be faster than ATA100 5400 RPM and the difference will be REALLY noticeable. I just want a new ATA card for the sole purpose of getting more ports to plug things in and the fact that my HDD is ATA100 ready as for ATA133 Maxtor can't get anything out of it because of PCI's 133 limit already and you ain't gonna get up that high.
  16. I just reinstalled a dual boot with Win2k and Win98, getting rid of a buggy WinME in the process. However, I noticed that when I boot Win98 and go to device manager, it says I have only 511.0 MB RAM? I know I have 512 and WinME used to show this and Win2k shows my memory to be 512 but it is listed in KB. My motherboard says I have 512 too, when the system starts it counts to 524 288 KB. Is this just a Win98 thingy that it won't count up to 512 since it can't use more memory than that? I checked to see if some sort of TSR is loaded at startup but there isn't and I also removed every DIMM and plugged each one in separately and they all said either 128 or 256 or 384 correctly, only with 512 i get 511. I even rearranged my DIMMs around and all combinations of 512 give 511 in Win98. My DIMMs are like this - Have 3 DIMMS slots all are filled 1 - 128 MB PC133 2 - 128 MB PC133 3- 256 MB PC133

Windows 2000 and Windows 98 with 512 MB RAM

It doesn't matter anymore simply put Win98 won't recognize the 1 meg, probably due to a VIA chipset issue or the OS itself. If I use WinME it reads 512, if I use Win95B it is still saying 511. Microsoft's 9x OSes are almost eliminated, XP all the way!

    Maxtor ATA-100 Card Installation

I am considering getting a Maxtor ATA-100 card to speed up my system, my hard disk is ATA-100 ready. Right now I am transferring at ATA 66, I also could use the extra ports. But anyway I have Win2k installed on my primary hard disk using the mainboard controllers if I get the ATA 100 card and hook the drive up to that will Win2k boot from it after I set my BIOS to boot from it? Because usually in the Win2k install you have press F6 to load a third party driver, how do i do this with Win2k already loaded?

    W2K SP2 and Word 97 Error

I had a similar problems with Office 97 with Excel and Word 97. Both of them use to crash under Win2k but this happened after I applied the Service Release 1 and Service Release 2. When I reformatted and reinstalled Office 97 and didn't apply the Service Releases all was well.

    Please HELP! EXE Troubles

This absolutely MAKES NO DAMN SENSE! If I have an .EXE file on the my Desktop D:\Documents.....\Administrator\Desktop , when I double click it won't LOAD. It just clicks and then nothing, it won't work! If I move the file to a different place everything is fine. What gives! Why does Win2k have to be so damn annoying! I am not joking here either this just one bogus error.

    Nero 5.5 Issues

Everytime I try to burn a CD-R using Nero 5.5 under Win2000 I get buffer underrun errors. I don't get it all. I have no other apps running and nothing serious is loaded in the system tray. To get CDs to burn well I have to use Win98 with 98 I can even do some light multitasking while burning but with Win2k even with no multitasking the CD-R get underrun errors. The buffer level in 98 stays at a constant 97 % but in 2k it justs jumps from 95 to 31 back up to 67 and then eventually hits 0 and then I get a new shiny coaster.
