That sound card might be finnicky to work with, mainly because Aureal is out of business and the Vortex line is pretty much dead. I think its been a few years, might wanna considering getting a better or newer sound system. The fix you downloaded was probably from a third-party support, try searching the message boards at 3DSoundsurge.com. Maybe you will come across it again.

Hey AlecStarr, if you are having problems with ATI's drivers and installing them, get the Catalyst Uninstaller from ATI's site. They work really well for me: http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/catalystutils.html

There are some OpenGL issues with recent ATI releases, I am sure they will get fixed, even though ATI claims there aren't any really, some people have been having problems with RTCW and Call of Duty. Try disabling VPU recover or Overdrive to see if it corrects it. Also AGP Fast Writes should be OFF. I tried the 3.10 drivers with my old Radeon 8500 and they work well, I still have problems with texture popping in Call of Duty if I increase the texture detail to Maximum.

What kind of sound system or sound card do you have? If you are using on-board sound from the motherboard, like the Realtek ALC series chips, make sure you have the latest drivers. Also make sure your chipset drivers are up to date as well. If you are using a Sound Blaster, make sure the latest drivers are installed. If you continue to have problems, hit START, then RUN, type DXDIAG, then inside there, hit the SOUND tab, then where it says hardware acceleration move it down one notch to STANDARD ACCELERATION or BASIC ACCELERATION. Hope it works out.

Yes you should be worried. Take back the device, it has issues with it, get a new one while you still can, there is something wrong with it and it might be damaging your system.

On a side note, you can view all of your PC's hardware by going to Device Manager, you can access by going to Control Panel, click the System icon, and then click the hardware tab, and then finally click the Device Manager button. Alternatively just right click My Computer and select properties.

ATI.com would be a good place to get drivers. Omega's drivers are sometimes good and sometimes bad....

What's better a OEM Raedeon 9200 or a Retail box 9200?
pmistry replied to Copernicus's topic in Hardware
Sometimes OEM cards ship with lower clock speeds, for the memory and core. However, if the speeds are the same, buying OEM will save you a fair amount of money. In rare occasions, OEM models sometimes have different memory bit paths, eg. the ATI Xpert 2000 PRO oem came with a 64-bit data path instead of 128-bit, but I don't think that is the case with any Radeon today. Just stay away from the "SE" models of the Radeons. They are just bad investments, eg. Radeon 9200 SE and Radeon 9600 SE both have 64-bit memory paths. Terrible. -
You know I watch TSN Sportscentre every day here in Canada, and all I hear about baseball right now is the signing of big free agents and the trading between them. The Yankees and Red Sox are waged in 1 hell of a war of out dueling each other. Both payrolls are probably going to exceed $200 million US! What is really funny is that they BOTH can't win the world series. But when the Marlins beat the Yankees, I was in shock. Can you buy talent? Yes, Can you win with spending big? Yes. All the time? Nope. Now I hear the Red Sox trading for Alex Rodriguez for Manny Ramirez. $250 and $180 million each for their deals. Yankees got Kevin Brown, $15 million/year for 2 more, and he is 39. Sheffield is on his way to the Yankees too. Lets not forget Baltimore, which has $180 million in contracts offers to V. Guerrero, Tejada, Javy Lopez, and I. Rodriguez. Yep.....

Anything better than Quake 3 and UT 2003 in the FPS Genre?
pmistry replied to pr-man's topic in Games
Deus Ex: Invisible War came out, has had mixed reviews. Too consoley for me. Deus Ex the original is still great. There is Medal of Honor and its expansion packs, RTCW, my bro has been playing Kingpin again, nice game! Jedi Outcast, Jedi Academy, Unreal 2 isn't bad...if not go replay some classics like Jedi Knight, Unreal, Doom w/JDoom, Heretic, Hexen 1 or 2, Quake, etc, etc -

What are you looking for, action FPS? Single Play? There are too many titles to list! -
As of right now, ATI cards are the choice for DX9 gaming. When you enable AA or AF with ATI cards, there is less of a performance hit compared to Nvidia. However, the Geforce FX 5950 is quite a performer and matches up well against the Radeon 9800 XT, but its the only one, every other Geforce FX, whether it is 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, just don't match up to their Radeon counterparts, the DX9 performance is bad, but DX8 and below is ok...but you want DX9 anyways! The Radeon 9500 PRO, Radeon 9600 XT and Radeon 9700 PRO are all great cards. As is the Radeon 9800 PRO AND XT, as well as NON-PRO.

I know my video card isn't that great, but its clocked at 300/600 and can run other games fine, this one won't even run in 640x480 no AA or AF without lag and glitches, its not implemented properly, the game's engine needs help. People have been posting everywhere with problems on Radeon 9500 PRO and even the Radeon 9800! The developers though are aware of the lag issues and are looking into it, because an 8500 or GF3 should be able to play the game at 640x480 with more than acceptable frame rates.

If EA is responsible for developing a sequel, then I doubt they would do a good job for PC owners. Unless they enlisted the help of the original creators of System Shock 2. But EA is more concerned for console games than PC games, as are other companies too like Eidos, just look at the Deus Ex 2 demo.....yeesh!
-
You need a graphics card with pixel shader support and its only on GeForce3/4Ti/FX series and Radeon 8500+ cards. No GF2 card or GF4MX cards has it.
-
The game has gone gold and its done and its a terrible demo and I think Deus Ex will be one of the most disappointing sequels in history. The game feels like a console and things that made the original a certifiable classic, are gone. No skill points, missing control features like throw/put away item, game has unified ammo (ie. no differentiation between shotgun/sniper ammo), inventory system is weak, combat is ineffective (ie. where are the headshots), locational damage gone (in DX1 you got hurt in the torso, head, leg, etc, in this one its all Quake style) Ouch....I am very disappointed!

No particular order, was just thinking of some of the great games and how they get to you, here are some that I have thought of. 1. Coming face to face with the 2 screaming Baron of Hells at the end of the Knee Deep In The Dead episode of the original Doom. 2. Exiting the prison ship in Unreal, and gazing in awe at the landscape. 3. Telling a hooker to "shake it baby" in Duke Nukem 3D. 4. Blowing a head off for the first time in Soldier of Fortune. 5. Taking a head off in Unreal Tournament, and listening to "Head Shot!" 6. Gibbing a Shambler for the first time in Quake. 7. Watching the Fiend in Quake, jump at you for the first time. 8. Watching the paratroopers fly down in parachutes and hunt you down in Return to Castle Wolfenstein. 9. Buying a crowbar in Kingpin for 1 dollar, and then beating the guy who sold you the crowbar with the crowbar to get your 1 dollar back. 10. Drawing your lighsaber for the first time in Jedi Knight. 11. Pulling out the Dwarven Battle Sword in Rune. 12. Using bullet time in Max Payne. 13. Killing so many enemies in 1 area of Serious Sam, and then realizing that you are only 25% done. 14. Listening to Caleb in Blood, laugh when he gibs a body. 15. Watching a scientist being attacked by a head crab in Half-Life. 16. Playing Deus Ex. 17. Using the BFG 9000 in Doom 2 to clean out a room of Imps, and watch their fur fly. 18. Encountering the Skaarj for the first time in Unreal. [in the corridor where the lights go out one by one] 19. Being able to fly in Heretic, it was about time the character left the ground.

More and More PC game developers are hungry for console gaming profits its simple. Just look at the Deus Ex 2 demo, its garbage, it feels like a console port, the same goes for Halo, it could have been better on the PC, but nothing got changed.

Downloaded and tried it out, runs slow on my PC. Intel P4-2.4/800FSB Radeon 8500 1 GB Dual DDR400 The interface is a tad annoying, and there is some missing functionality from the first game, eg. no function key to put away items

I never got to use OS/2 Warp 4, the one I ran on a 386 and 486 was OS/2 Warp Version 3.0, that and the other was v2.1 which ran really nice on a 386.
