Why won't it run, be more specific. Does it crash when you try and start it? Does it have a problem installing? Do you have the latest OpenGL drivers for your video card?
-
Nope...USB and Firewire aren't supported under Windows NT4. Its just too old, like Windows 95. There are third party USB drivers for NT4, but that support is pretty sketchy at best. Firewire support is just not there. I know this isn't much help, and you probably already know this....move to XP or 2000.

Ok maybe 3D sound effects, and bombardment of sound around you. But when playing games, the 4 speaker system I have...sucks compared to a 2 speaker setup. I tried using some old mono RCA jack speakers from an old stereo, it has lots of wattage, but the sound was just better than my 4 speaker setup. [My 4 speakers are supposed to be decent Altec Lansing speakers, ACS54] I don't know, enabling 3D sound in games just sounds bad, and the effects just don't immerse me at all. I like straight stereo sound, it sounds richer, fuller, and more direct. Am I wrong? Or are 4 speakers better for Dolby Digital stuff?

I did some tests with my onboard audio, a Realtek ALC650 and ran some Quake 3 benchies. I got 212 FPS with audio enabled and 244 FPS with audio disabled. I have an old SB Live hanging around, with Creative's drivers installed, I should probably get some of my FPS back right? I am assuming that upgrading to an Audigy or Audigy 2 might make it even better?
-
I may look into getting an Audigy or Audigy 2 board. I would just want the sound card, so an OEM version for cheap is what I am aiming for. Will be looking around thats for sure!

I know all about FPS and what the human eye can perceive. But for future games, I guess system performance will matter a bit later on...eh whatever. Let see here, I put my SB Live card in and installed Creative's latest drivers. I got 222 FPS, which is nice. I never really wanted to use my SB Live as it gave me headaches with my old VIA Chipset/Athlon PC. But now with my Intel chipset, its working really nice and sound is quite clean. Its better sounding right now than the ALC650.

I read somewhere that the follow up would be for the Playstation 2 only...weird.

Hi guys, I have been trying to get an old version of MS Project running on Windows XP Pro SP1. It is MS Project 95, I have the 3.5" disk version. The floppy disks are just fine, since I can install it on my Win98 machine, but on my XP one it just says "Error copying Winproj.exe" or any other file for that matter. I set up for compatibility mode [Win95] and got it to install fine, but now when attempting to run it, it just says Winproj.exe has generated errors and will be shut down. I set it up to run in compatibility mode [Win95] and the same thing happens. I am guessing I should just get a newer version, but anyone know of some sort of solution?

Problem installing/running Microsoft Project 95 on XP
pmistry replied to pmistry's topic in Software
Yeah I figured as much, I can't really seem to find a copy of Project 98, the next version of Project should be 2003, so I may wait around for that. I think: Project 95 = MS Office 95 era Project 98 = MS Office 97 era Project 2000 = MS Office 2000 era Project 2002 = MS Office XP era? Is there a Project 2002? or Project XP? I'll check around on MS's site. Anyone know for sure that Project 2003 will be coming? -
NFS5 on Win2k again, I've tried everything *help plz*
pmistry replied to SideWinder's topic in Games
That is tough, if all of those tricks still don't work. Try deleting gimme.dll while having your AGP Aperture size set to a lower amount like 64 MB. This option should be available in your BIOS. You tried a cracked EXE, try doing that along with a No-CD patch too. I don't know if EA made a patch for NFS5, but you might wanna check around and see if there is one. -
The old speakers are much better, but they need an amplifier anyways, but yeah the sound is just better. I had them hooked up to an old stereo and connected via the line out on my PC sound system. The speakers are manufactured by a company called Lloyds. They are the speakers from an old LP/8-Track system we got lying around. As for the Altec Lansing speakers they just aren't good enough for me, I am gonna go looking around for something better, probably more expensive and more powerful. I like those Klipsch Pro Media speakers but the price is too high...Got any recommendations?

Yeah I haven't been around as much either. But did upgrade my old Athlon 750. Running: a P4 - 2.4C, may attempt some overclocking. Abit IS7 (excellent board for overclocking) 1 GB DDR 400 / Dual Channel Mode The rest is standard boring fare.

I still have an old Intel Pentium 166 MMX running Windows 95, it has 24 megs of RAM, a 1 gig hard disk, and 12x CD Drive, 28.8 Modem, ATI 2 meg PCI video, and Sound Blaster AWE64. Was great for running DOS games, and MS Office 95. In fact it still is good at that. Also have an old AMD Athlon 750 Slot A, with 512 MB RAM, running Windows 2000 SP4 with Windows Millennium dual boot.

After posting my best fps/action gaming moments, I decided to put an opposite post looking at some of the bad moments. 1. Playing Daikatana. 2. Listening to Lo Wang talk about his "thingy" in Shadow Warrior. 3. The magic and atmosphere found in Unreal, was lost in Unreal 2. 4. The fact that Duke Nukem Forever has been in development since 1996. Come on, sequels to Wolfenstein, Unreal, Doom, Quake, Dark Forces, and other games have long come out! 5. Playing Sin v1.00! More bugs than a Windows Beta Release. 6. The stealth missions in Soldier of Fortune 2. 7. Finishing Deus Ex, dammit I want more! 8. Watching the Chesire Cat and the Rabbit die in Alice. 9. Realizing that you will die every corner that you turn in Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. 10. Figuring out that Half-Life: Blue Shift is way TOO short. 11. Realizing that games like Devastation get released. 12. Trying to flip through all the spells you have at your disposal in Wheel of Time. Good grief.

Quote: personally I loved Shogo: MAD Graphics and game concept were great for the time. I just couldn't understand why the on-foot missions were so difficult. I mean it though, when you turn a corner the AI's aim is so fast and so accurate, you are dead before you see them. On a side note, the battle mech missions were great.

Speaking of Rise of the Triad, how about firing the Homing Missile at your unexpecting deathmatch opponent who is taunting you with insults atop of a building? My friend never saw it coming!

Jnes, I think it is quite good at NES emulation.

If you plug the mouse into the USB port and then go into your BIOS and find some option about USB Mouse and USB Keyboard support provided by the BIOS instead of the OS, they should function as PS/2 devices under NT4. I am pretty sure on this...

Best way to make sure that ata-100 HD is running at ata100?
pmistry replied to pr-man's topic in Hardware
Right click My Computer, Click Properties, Hardware Tab, Click Device Manager Under IDE/ATAPI Controllers, click the channel that the drive is on (Primary or Secondary) and it will be listed there under Current Transfer Mode on the Advanced Settings Tab. Mode 5 = ATA100 and Mode 4 = ATA66, 3 = ATA33, etc -
I would value the ATI cards like this: ATI Radeon 9500 PRO ATI Radeon 9700 PRO ATI Radeon 9600 PRO ATI Radeon 9800 PRO The 9500 PRO is the best value option. It is a good card, and can be overclocked and modded to 9700 like performance. If you are the overclocker type all the non-PRO cards can be upped to the PRO speeds. Your call on that, but the price difference is minimal so you might as well get the PRO versions.

The one I have I think is discontinued now, but its really good and better than the Sidewinder Pad. I am referring to gamepads and not joysticks. As for Playstation type look thats just a preference. While it doesn't have 4 top buttons it does have 2 placed at comfortable spots, 6 trigger buttons, plus 3 extra buttons that can be used how you see fit. I believe it is a good pad if you can find it on Ebay or online in clearance.

Logitech Wingman Extreme....the best period. Not the Wingman Rumble Pad but the original Wingman Extreme, very solid pad.

Hey guys is there anyway I can add a game port, you know the old style connectors to a new PC? My motherboard has onboard audio but no game port. I really do not want to add in an old PCI Soundblaster or something and use it just for a game port.
-
Nice suggestion, a bit too much money for me, could just buy a new gamepad instead.

No one and I mean no one, has tried harder than I have to get this freaking game installing and running on Windows 2000. Search the forums for High Stakes and you will come across alot of threads.
