    Need help

Ok I'm going to a LAN party tomorrow and I want to password protect my file shares. Is it better to share my partition and put a password on the Guest account? Cause right now I have the Guest account enabled with no password but I made the restrictions on each share for only a specific username, but when I go to my parent's computer that is running Windows 98 (I'm running Win2k) I can see all the shares but when I souble click on one of them it says "Access Denied". Now a lot of users at the LAN use Win9x and I want them to be able to get access, as I have some Movies, MP3s, Game Updates, mods, etc. what is the best way I can share these things?

Not at the one I am going with........and I'm pretty sure I can get it to work.
  3. ahhh a typo that brings a totally new meaning to a reply Have you tried Powerquest's DriveImage?
  4. I feel the majority of the problems that are being asked are from people like you that are just switching from 9x to 2k and are "newbies". I love Win2k and the only OSes that might ever be loaded on my computer again are XP and Linux.

It's either packet loss or it is the stupid CL_FlushEntity problem.

    Someone, Anyone, Please Help Me...!

There are programs that you can find that can recover data. One program that comes to mind is Easy Recovery. I have used it before and it got what I needed back. If you want a copy, give me an email (busby1218@charter.net) and I'll get ya a copy. But, as everyone else has said, stop using that HD.
  7. Don't worry about activiating stuff, as it is/should be alreayd activated. Simply goto www.highpoint-tech.com and download the win2k Drivers for the HPT366. It will work if you install those drivers, trust me. I have the same mobo.

    IRQ conflict

Don't worry about the IDE Busmaster thing. It does not affect you. Download the latest Win2k drivers from www.highpoint-tech.com and then install those drivers. I think I had a problem with the first version of the HPT366 drivers.
  9. www.highpoint-tech.com Download the drivers there. Put them on a disk, not in any sub folders. When you start Win2k setup press F6 to install third party SCSI or RAID drivers(you will see a notice at bottom of screen). Specify the drivers twice. It's the HPT366 drivers that you need, I believe. [This message has been edited by Busby (edited 18 March 2001).]

    IRQ conflict

Check your Device Manager and see if one controller doesn't have the drivers installed right. And the manual says not to have the Highpoint Xpro Storage drivers (or whatever they are called) and the Intel IDE Busmaster drivers. [This message has been edited by Busby (edited 18 March 2001).]

    IRQ conflict

I also have the Abit (not ASUS) BE6 and have had ZERO problems with the controller. I have had 2 HDs hooked up, one to each controller, and have had nothing wrong. When you installed Win2k, you had to press F6 and install the drivers, did you load them just one time or two times? You may not have all the drivers installed correctly.

    Voodoo 3 Refresh Rate

Well I've kept the same EXE for installing files all the time, I don't know if I just have a good version of the installer or what.

    Voodoo 3 Refresh Rate

Beats the hell outta me. When I install Win2k I install the 1.03.00 drivers and then after one stupid attempt at gaming using only a 60 hz refresh rate I remember to go hack my registry. The biggest difference after doing this is in Counter-Strike. I can actually tell that i'm not using 60 hz. Just trust me

    Voodoo 3 Refresh Rate

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/3dfxvs/Device0/Timings Each resolution is listed and when the subitems are expanded they are refresh rates. Delete the ones lower than what you want. Like say you want 85 hz, you delete 60 hz, 72 hz, and 75 hz.
  17. If you do it the way TheDude says make sure you put the Read-Only attribute. Also the DLL file isn't working, I can't seem to download it. I removed the link because there are other methods. VoodooExtreme has a link to one, and there is a link to one in this thread. [This message has been edited by Busby (edited 18 March 2001).]

With the latest drivers there are a few registry changes that must take place. Email me at busby1218@charter.net or post here if you want the specific keys.

    cat5 cable

CAT5 + outside = BIG trouble. From what I have read CAT5 attraches lightning and such. I think you might be better off using a piece of fiber optics. Remember the limit for CAT5 is like 300 something feet, I think.
  20. When I run the disk defrag utility in Win2k and analyze my partitions each partition, no matter what is on the drive has a chunk of space that is green, which means system files. I know on the C: that is the swap file but on a partition that just stores files?

    A good list of ports

http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/app_port_list.htm That site lists the programs (ICQ, IRC, AIM, etc.) and what ports they use.

    New 3dfx drivers

Is the small picture surrounded by black space? if it is it would be your monitor vertical and horizontal positioning, which has nothing to do with the 3Dfx drivers.
  24. When in the main menu you click the Console button. While in game you press the `/~ button.

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

That is your monitor's vertical and horizontal positioning and sizing that is producing those bars.
