I would check out the reviews over at www.2cpu.com they have some good reports on stuff like that. Really check up on the type of Motherboard you get and make sure the Slot types are the same. " it sounds stupid but I heard of a guy buying a dual Socket 370 board but having 2 Slot 1 PIII's" as far as the P II's I wouldn't fool with them they are as Expensive as a PIII 500 so put the money towards another P III in a year the 650's will be very cheap. I am doing the same thing with my system . a P3 600 and a p3 500 . I am going with the Tyan Tiger 133. As far an the OS. the question isn't finding a Motherboard to be compatible with the OS it is finding a OS that works with SMP "Multi Processor". Win 2000 works fine and most newer mother boards are win 2000 compatible.. Good Luck , Sparkhard [This message has been edited by Sparkhard (edited 10 October 2000).]

Hey, I just painted my new Enlight case black. I used Rustoleum. i got it at home depot for about 3 bucks a can. It worked out great. I used almost both cans b/c i put a good second coat. I also tried to spray it over with a clear Lacquer, it messed me up , so dont do that. : ) just remember to remove the power buttons and stuff like that and paint them seperate.. In case you are wondering, It came out looking great and the rustoleum is very durable and it will hold up to any possible heat that may occur. Good luck , Sparkhard P.S. this is pretty obvious but, try real hard to make that paint go on even. it shows up a lot more on a black surface when you screw up.

I've had the same problem with the Intelli mouse w/ intelliEye.. it would flutter out every now and then. but i realized it was a hardware problem and had nothing to do with the software. You should return the mouse from where you got it , or , call microsoft. They sent me a brand new mouse free of any charge. So far i havent had any problems other that my overall disatisfaction of the mouse's shape and feel. Good Luck, Sparkhard

Actually as it turns out it depends on what 3dfx card you get.. for example 3dfx doesnt even have a win2k version of their drivers for the 3 3500 they are all beta as is the Visual Reality software that you need with the both 3000 and 3500.. i think 3dfx has released a 2k driver kit for the 4 and 5's but i am not positive. i have a VooDoo 3 3500 and i just upgraded that from a VooDoo3 2000 both AGP and they worked great in Win 2k.. actually for the 2 3000 i had some home grown drivers from a Guy named OMEGA ,, but the beta ones from 3dfx worked fine.. the main reason i have 3dfx card is because i do a lot of video capture with it (this is the 3 3500 only) and i have never ever had a compatibility issue with them .. at least with software.. they are great cards. However there are better cards out there peformance wise so it is up to you to make the call. 3dfx also had a reputation for pissing off their costomers in the Drivers and support section..

But when i am just sitting there running IE or talking on AIM or Downloading it will just turn to a blue screen and restart... i have no idea what happenes. If anyone knows of this problem lemme know... oh and i also get a bad or corrupted file when i install... it tells me that it wont effect the install or startup so i just click "ok" is this a known problem or should i try to find another copy??? Thanks , Sparkhard

Sometime in the near future i plan to purchase a Tyan Tiger 133 Motherboard "from what ive read i am trying to get version F" i want to know how it runs. I've read all the threads and benchmarks and have heard good things about the newer revisions.. But what i want to hear from people who actually have the motherboard and are using its SMP capabilities.. "i want to know if it is stable and reliable in the long run" So if anyone has one , or know someone who has one i would appreciate any comments or feedback. Thanks, Sparkhard p.s. please diregard any spelling errors it is 6 AM

Well im not exactly sure,, how it does it , but it "Defrags" your Ram and/or Removes any unneccesary memory residuals "win 2k itself eliminates most of this". but it has a nice "RAM Meter" you have 2 options , A ram recover , which defrags it . and a Ram scrubber, which removes stuff so far its been working fine.. i am using a voodoo 3 3500 and i also reinstalled the drivers in the correct order.. which is.. WinDVD 2k,Driver,3dFx tools, "and in my case Vis Reality" .. i called 3dfx about another problem with my TV out when i play DVD's. But since all of the Drivers are Beta' they are unsupported.. so im on my own ... maybe ill post something here about that ..

I am building a new DUAL CPU system probably in late november... here is what i plan to use I already have: 3 HDD a 12 gig 17gig 9gig a VooDoo 3 3500, Samsung 8xDVD , sony CD RW 10x4x32, Promise DmA 66 controller, 128 RAM, "for the last 2 HDD listed" a PIII 600, " i have another PIII 500 that i plan to use" the rest are the basic parts "modem , NIC, and Sound" What i plan to get: A tyan tiger 133.. and a 256 meg DIMM .. my question is about my power supply.. there are a lot of nice cases with a 250w but i was wondering if i need a 300w "with all of the drives i will be running" i am currently running this system on a 200w supply.. any help is appreciated Sparkhard

Sorry but i mis-posted this in the Hardware section so here it is in the right place: I have a samsung 8x DVD player..lately i cant seem to get Win DVD 2k or Ravisent Cinemaster2000 to work in win2000.. strangely enough Power DVD works fine. this has happend only recently in my latest win2000 install (i tried Win Me) WIN DVD 2k will start but it is jumpy as hell . Cinemaster will give me a start screen but nothing happens.. Since my last install i have put 2 HDD with a Promise Ultra DMA66 controller... i have everything turned to DMA in the IDE settings and Win 2000 is on a NTFS partition.. i thought it might be cause my power supply is under powered with the new Drives .. but this doesnt explain the Cinemaster not starting.. "it never starts, even if there is no DVD in the Drive" i only have 1 DVD disc so i thought that it might be a Problem with that, but then that doesnt make sense since the Power Software works .. I am at a loss.. i realllyyyy !!! dont want to reinstall Win2000 and hafta re-install my Programs.. so if anyone has any ideas or have had this happen to them . please help or tell me what fixed this "oh btw i am running this with 64 megs so if you think that is the prob let me kjnow

Damn i had the same prob.. check out my Thread in Hardware.. "i thought it might be a Drive prob" lemme know what you think . if sounds the same as this

Hi, can anyone clear this up for a friend of mine.... he says that dual Cpu's dont have to be at the same speed... i told him he is a crazy "d"uck .. please post as many threads here proving me right... oh and i have a legit question as well.. if i do Dual my cpu's can i use 1 Slot 1 chip and another socket 370 with a Slot 1 converter?? it may be stupid but i hafta ask.... Thanks to all
-
Well ive found the answer.. thanks for all of the help... i contacted Tyan and they said that the different speeds are ok .. you just haft to have the same type and stepping.. "oh hell here's the email itself" Dear Sparkhard, You need to make sure that the cpu's you are using have to be the exact same type of processors with the same SL and SY stepping numbers on them. good luck so there it is... thanks to all

Here's what happened to me. i had a SB Live. it gave me all kinds of trouble "in any OS in any PCI slot" I have no idea why. It would always mess up and then not work untill i rebooted, it would turn off my speakers by itself. And the volume would even get inconsistent. So i ditched that board and got a SB pro. it seemed better that the live but it still had probs... So eventually i took it out.. What i ended up doing was taking my old SB 16 AWE 32 ISA and using that.. it worked great.. never a single problem. I had great sound and full duplex.. i have no idea my this happened, i now blame it on a shitty Mobo "it was a compaq".. so thats my SB horror story i dont know if it helps you any, but i thought you would like to know.

Could i run a PIII 500 and a PIII 600 (both with 100 fsb) in a mobo with a 133 fsb??
-
Oh so crap!! you can have 2 CPU's at different speeds .... is that the conclusion? well i guess you learn somehting new everyday. If anyone has any more Dual Cpu with different speed configurations i would like to know what the speeds are and how stable the system is.... Thanks

I have a question about RAM in 2000 what is the max ram allowed in win 2000 "if there is a maximum" and if by some chance does anyone know the Max RAM allowed in Windows ME ? im just comparing OS's .. i currently have 64 MB running 2000 i know that this is the min. for 2000 and i am considering changing to ME or buying a 256 MB chip ... but i want to know what the 2 OS's can handle in terms of RAM before i buy... Thanks.
