My server is NT4 SP5 and I was connected to my ISP using a wireless connection with a speed of 1MB in other words im WAN. I hav almost 50 workstations connected to INTERNET. Should I install firewall? or just an anti-virus program? if i should install anti-virus, where will i put? should be in the client side or in server?

I have 1 server with 2 lancard, 1st lancard has an ip of 10.0.0.2 and the other is 10.0.0.5,1 two sets of computer (A& was connected to switch hub in lancard 1 and 1 computer© connected also to switch hub in lancard 2. How come that computer© cannot ping the computer(A)&(? The server was running NT 4.0 SP6, installed already the services RIP and checked the enabled IP routing. all workstation are running on win98. anybody? please.....

Guys..is there a way to optimize our connectivity to our server? My problem is its to long for me to wait. or is this normal! my setup is : 1 WIN2K Server 1 Win2K Pro ( Workstation ) 1 XP Pro ( Workstation ) When I connect using XP to the server, I dont have any problem but my concern is during displaying the "Applying for personal settings" it took about 1 - 2 minutes before it completes! guys..just wondering why XP did not show in device manager that ACPI installed? but instead MPS (Multi-Processor System). Yes my mobo is a multi-processor capable but I only use 1 CPU. And I think this is the cause why XP will not shut-off my box! My is a dual boot XP/98. When I boot in 98 and go device manager, ACPI was installed. and when you shutdown, it shut off my box. I dont think its in the bios because I already check GIGABYTE web site and I have the latest bios version. What do you think guys? any inputs? this is my system! Guys...im having problem wid my keyboard. guys...i think you cannot make ICS or File Sharing on TCP/IP if your using a crossed cable!, You need to install NetBEUI! protocol rather TCP/IP to make sharing.

hi guys, can i eliminate tick sound coming out from my sound card when playing music? (WINAMP/WMP/etc.) my box GIGABYTE mobo dual pro III 667 512MB 40 GB SB Live 52x CDROM 10/100 3Com Leadtek 2000TV Card XP 2600/WIN98 LG 8x4x32 is there any components that may conflict to my sound? in win98 dont have problem at all. in XP all drivers installed are from XP default.

I have 5 machines at home and wired, 1 was for win2k Server, 1 NT workstation, 1 for XP Pro, 1 win2k pro and 1 win98. I already enable the internet sharing in win2k server and the server is connected to my ISP. But only NT workstation can surf the net while the others cannot. I dont have any firewall installed in all machines. All machines can PING with each other. Files and Folders sharing was OK...meaning the connections was OK. Where do i start troubleshooting this kind of problems guys?!! any ideas??? TX

Atreyu.... i already tried setting up DHCP and obtain their TCP settings automagically from the server and also their DNS....i tried all !!!! I donno whats wrong with this...im planning to reinstall again the server side...but i still have to leave it for troubleshooting purposes...maybe we can still finds some solutions by then...but not reinstalling...HEHEHEHE Thanks

Hi guys!, I just want to know what happen to my internet sharing in win2k. Actually, in our office we have 2 servers, 1 using NT4 and 1 win2K server. The NT4 was connected to our ISP using a wireless internet connections and the win2K is not. I have 2 options to make my Win2K server be onlined to the net, either i have to dial using a 56K modem to my ISP or im goin to dial to our NT4 (RAS from 3Com) using a local connection. We used before dialling to my ISP, BTW workstations connected in WIN2K have a static IP of 192.168.0.1 for win2k server and from 192.168.0.2 - 192.168.0.5 are for workstations. When I try to connect to our NT4, the connection was flawless have no problem except we have to configure our workstation to use proxy address of NT4 since it was using a MSproxy. when we try to dial again to my ISP, it works..connection have been made but our workstations will not be able surf if im goin to remove the PROXY address of my NT4. If im goin to put the address we will be able to surf but not all services we get like chatting, MIRC since our NT4 proxy will not allow any other than surfing and e-mail cheking. My question is that why should I put the PROXY address of our NT4 Server in our workstations since we are not konekted to. any idea guys????? Our Setup: NT4 Server - 40 workstations - have a 1500 model RAS from 3COM capable of accepting 8 dialup users Win2K Server (R&D Division) - 5 workstations - not wired to NT4 - about 7 KM. away from NT4

Lord Nor...even if im going to use the winroute or wingate..i think it is not still possible since they cannot see each other.. yakkob...all my win98 box are configured the gateway to 192.168.0.1 i think i have to reinstall again...i have the same setup in my office and i dont have problem...

kgeissler....i've been using an static ip addressing and im not using the dhcp...my setup in my house is... 1 box of windows 2k pro 2 box of win98 they are connected thru my hub... now...the win2k has an ip of 192.168.0.1 and the two box is 192.168.0.2 and 3. now the two box is can ping each other while the 2k pro cannot...i use the 2k pro for internet sharing. but if the 2k pro will dial to my isp...then win2k can ping all computers but if im disconnected to isp...then i cannot ping to both win98 boxes... what else...????

so far im in 2462 y?...well i installed it to my system without any problem not like 2474, it wont install...i dono why it wont!!!!! maybe ill just wait for another build...

Shrink...my mobo is in VIA chipset...i tried to disable the ACPI but still not able to install the 2474...i tried also wat luders said..pressing F5 and select standard pc still not working... ???? 2474.... i hope the 2475/2481 will work w/ me...

Brian Frank ....TCP/IP was already installed in both LANCARD & MODEM...but IPX/SPX were never been installed 'coz i think this will be used only in NOVELL.. and netbeui protocoll will be installed when u will direct connections but I have HUB...where all my workstations connected.... Im not sure if this build will work for me guys....because i tried to install the 2474 but it fails why? the setuperr.log says the my hardware was malfunctions or low memory....but with 2462 it works fine...this is my setup!!!! Is it possible to install two sound cards in a computer? y? because my 1st sound card has a built it IDE controller and im using it for my 10GB HD and 250Zip Drive. I have 4 IDE drive (2) 20 GB and (2) 30GB. I like the sound of my 1st sound card but I have another which is SB Live Platinum... would it be possible?
