    Win2k Server refuses to boot!

Hello all, I've just successfully installed Win2k Server on this PC : - Celeron300 w/ABIT BX6 (revision 1, QS bios) - 128MB RAM - Creative RivaTNT1 graphics card w/5.14 Detonator drivers - 3com 905x network card AD/DHCP/DNS have all been configured via the wizard. Right now, there are no PCs connected to this server. I had just finished installing all the security patches, created a new user with admin privileges and rebooted. Upon rebooting, the system would hang at "Preparing network connections", and I don't see the login prompt. Rebooting in Safe Mode, I see the login prompt, but after typing in my userid/password and pressing Enter the system hangs there. THen I reboot in Safe Mode again, this time choosing the "Active Directory" option, and before the login prompt again, I see this message (it goes something like this) : "Windows 2000 has to be shut down because LSASS.EXE has generated error -1066598274" Then it countdowns from 60s and reboots the PC. I've tried searching for this error in these forums but to no avail. It was working very nicely before all these happened. Any insight into this matter is highly appreciated. Thanks.

    Win2k server not booting!

    Quake3 too dark

Hello all, I know this is probably chicken feet but I need your help. I've just installed Win2k to dual=boot with Win98, and Q3 is too dark. I'm currently using a Riva TNT1 with NVDIA's 5.14 Det drivers. I've tried different values of r_gamma which makes no difference and also r_intensity which just makes the lighted areas very bright. The items (I play with cg_simpleitems 1) are faded and greyed. Right now, my values are r_gamma=1.5 (no diff) and r_intensity=2.5 Any insight into this matter is greatly appreacited. DiademZ

    SERVICES.EXE takes 100% CPU

Hello all! I'm running Win2k dual-booting with Win98. I've set up modem dial-up networking to the Internet. Everything is set as per default. After successfully handshaking and verifying the username/password, Win2k stops momentarily (about 10-20s) at "Registering your user at the network" (I think that's the msg, roughly..) Checking Task Manager shows SERVICES.EXE taking up 100% of the CPU time. After about 10-20s, I'm logged on and can surf. Any ideas why this is happening? FYI, there are 2 services which fail to start upon Win2k bootup (as reported in the Event Viewer) : SAM failed to start the TCP/IP or SPX/IPX listening thread 0000: d3 06 00 00 & The Distributed File System service depends on the following nonexistent service: LanmanWorkstation --- FYI, the Dial-Up Networking was working fine initially, and then both the services failed to start and I think as a consequence I'm having the above problem. I use a external Cirrus Logic 33.6kbps MD-3450 modem. Any insight into this matter is highly appreaciated. DiademZ
