Providing your hardware doesn't change between when you create the Ghost image and when you restore it. If you don't have net access, you can always call MS on the phone and they will give you an activation code to type in.

I hadn't looked into how much it costs, as I haven't gotten to the stage where the free subs have expired. I've always managed to wipe my machine and reinstall everything before the 12 month limit (thus resetting the clock).

Quote: 2.) The AntiVirus program is the best one out there of its kind in my estimation + FREE signature updates But only for 12 months. After that you need to subscribe their update service. Having said that, I use SW2002 on XP and it's great.

Is your system overclocked? I had a problem installing XP whilst running my 1.2 CPU at 10x140. I knocked the FSB back to 133 and it all installed fine. After the installation, I put the FSB back to 140 and it runs like a dream.

Hope you have some decent tools and a clean room! I'd give the drive about an hours worth of life once you open her up. And if you're going to handle the platters then I seriously doubt you'll get anything off them once you've touched them.

cant get XP pro to turn off computer...HELP
Bursar replied to woz_mann's topic in Customization & Tweaking
It probably isn't SystemWorks, as I have it installed on my XP machine and it switches off just fine. The things to look at are the power options in your BIOS, and in Windows. -
The attacks you list are part of Code Red. We have dozens of these in our event logs on our NT4 and 2000 IIS servers. You can get a Code Red removal tool from Symantec which will remove the files and do a basic test to see if that machine is at risk.

Very handy, thanks very much

Quote: If you never see the banner you will not click on it. ;( That was kind of the point I was making. If a user is savvy enough to install this type of software to block adverts, then they probably won't be the kind of user that chases all over the net clicking banners anyway.
-
Whilst I appreciate that blocking banners takes away some income from the site you are visiting, do most companies pay according to the number of people that see the ad, or the number that click on it? If it's based on click-thrus then they are only losing revenue if the user would have clicked the banner. The fact they are blocking banners means that they wouldn't have clicked it anyway. If it's based on the number of views a banner gets, then it's obviously a different kettle of fish.

They should all be fine. Both of my disks are NTFS, and all my games play flawlessly. Make a backup of any important stuff first, just incase the conversion process goes awry.

If you read the reply properly, he says Quote: Just be sure you load SP3 for client 4.8 This is the Netware client, not the operating system

Quote: MMMMM, i havent' read EVERY post here, but is making a HD image some how possible and copying it to the raid drive? Just an idea (10 am in the morn, i ain't awake yet!) Doesn't that kind of imply that you can get the OS installed in the first place Blade: If you want, I can lend you an IDE drive on a semi-permenant basis if you want.

True, outdated and dead, and if it meant a delay on any of nVidias core products, then I would say forget GLIDE. However, I've got some great old games that I'd love to play again, and software rendering doesn't really cut it. Maybe I'll have a search round for some GLIDE emulators. There must be a couple about and with the CPU and graphics power available, they should run at reasonable frame rates.

Perhaps not exactly what you are after, but www.internetseer.com is a web based service that will monitor your sites and contact you of there is a problem. The free service is very basic, but by paying a fee you can specify extras such as additional URLs and more frquent monitoring of your servers.

BladeRunner is right. I've put IE6 on a few Win2k machines now, and there is no customise option available when you choose to download it. The setup program will do install everything automatically. You'll need to do as Xiven says.

You're obviously only worried about supporting the current crop of video cards, so providing your software runs with the nVidia GeForce series (from the orginal upto the GF3), ATi cards (the Radeon would be the best bet here) and the Kyro II chipset cards you shouldn't have much to worry about. If you want it to run on gaming cards, then sticking to standard APIs such as DirectX and OpenGL will mean that your software should run on just about anything.

Two things. 1. When posting images, use JPGs or GIFs. BMP files are huge! You might also want to crop the image so it only contains the error message, and not a load of empty white space afterwards. 2. My copy of UT works perfectly under 2k. The main things to check are that you have all the Windows 2000 updates and that UT is pacthed to the latest version as well (436).

I use the MS IntelliMouse Explorer, and I play mostly FPS games as well. It's a great mouse and the two thumb buttons can come in really handy

It's not offcially out, so DX8.0a is still the latest version you can download from the MS site. There are some websites that carry the 8.1 beta, but use it at your own risk. Some people have reported compatibility problems with a few games.

The 266 chips are generally unlocked. Both of my 1.2s were, and everyone I've spoken to who has other speeds of 266 chips say that they are factory unlocked.

If your RAM is capapble of running at 133, then up the FSB. If it's not, you'll need to up the multiplier instead. The chip probably is unlocked, but you'll need to check your motherboard to see how to increase it.

Goto www.3dfiles.com and download it from them. They have a few mirrors, so you should be able to get it OK.

Yes they do still have the old syle LPT ports on them. Just because you're buying a USB printer, don't expect a USB (or parallel) cable in the box. If you don't have one already, you'll need to buy one.
